Lions vs Alouettes Prediction, Picks & Odds for Week 14

With Cody Fajardo returning from the IL last week and looking no worse for wear, we expect the Montreal pivot to shine when the Alouettes' offense takes on a weak BC secondary.

Week 14 in the CFL kicks off on Friday night with a clash between the BC Lions and Montreal Alouettes.

Montreal has been the best team in the league and my Lions vs. Alouettes predictions are betting on their finely-tuned offense to keep rolling. Here are my best free CFL picks for this September 6 clash.

My best bet
Alouettes team total Over 26.5 (-115 at Bet99)

My analysis

Although Nathan Rourke finally looked like his elite self in last weekend's blowout win against the Redblacks, I don't trust the BC Lions on the other side of the ball.

The Lions are second last in the league in yards allowed per game (380.2) and yards allowed per play (6.81), while ranking dead-last in opponent pass efficiency (111.8). They're even worse on the road, where they allow 29.1 points per game, and this week they head across the country to face the league's best team.

The Montreal Alouettes come in fresh off a bye with a 10-1 record. Their explosive offense is spearheaded by Cody Fajardo, who is the odds-on favorite to be named Most Outstanding Player and owns the highest pass efficiency in the CFL at 111.9. The Als lead the league in yards per play (6.87) and are second in net offense (363.5 yards per game) despite missing Fajardo for five games.

Fajardo came off the IL just before Montreal's Week 12 clash with Edmonton. He looked rusty in the first half of that contest, throwing for 109 yards and a pick while generating just six first downs. However, he threw for 227 yards and two scores in the second half, leading the Als to a comeback victory.

With their veteran QB back under center and having shaken off the rust, the Alouettes should have no problem eclipsing their team total.

Lions vs Alouettes same-game parlay (SGP)

Alouettes team total Over 26.5

William Stanback Over 80.5 rushing yards

Austin Mack Over 4.5 receptions

While the Alouettes have one of the best pass defenses in the league, they are less effective against the run, surrendering 5.3 yards per carry. William Stanback is second in the CFL in rushing yards (810) and has rushed for 85+ yards in four straight games. Montreal defensive coordinator Noel Thorpe will also focus on limiting Rourke downfield, which should open up things for Stanback on the ground.

Rourke isn't the only elite CFL player to return to the league after NFL cuts in late August, as Austin Mack rejoined the Als just before their Week 12 clash with Edmonton. He hauled in just three of eight targets for 32 yards in that contest but was one of the league's top receivers last year and should be more productive following a couple of weeks of practice.
