My analysis
When the BC Lions and Saskatchewan Roughriders last met in July, both sides had a different quarterback under center.
Vernon Adams Jr. was the MOP favorite after throwing for 450+ yards in a 35-20 win for BC, while Shea Patterson was starting at QB for Saskatchewan following an early-season injury to Trevor Harris.
That Week 6 win at BC Place catapulted the Leos to 5-1, and it seemed like three straight years of 12+ wins was a sure thing for Rick Campbell's club. However, the Lions have been in a freefall since, dropping seven out of their last 10 games — including making the switch from Adams to Nathan Rourke in Week 11.
Rourke hasn't exactly lived up to the 2022 campaign that saw him take the league by storm and earn a shot in the NFL as a result. The Leos' pivot holds a 4:7 TD-INT ratio through seven starts, with a looming matchup against a Riders team riding a three-game winning streak.
Despite BC's latest 32-15 win over Calgary, the game was a seesaw battle until a Mathieu Betts pick-six in the 4th quarter opened things up. The Lions' offense remained stagnant throughout — settling for six field goals — and the unit will struggle when they face a Riders offense that ranks second in rushing yards allowed per game and forces you to throw and keep up with Trevor Harris & Co.
At home, back the Riders to add a cushion to the second seed in the West.
