Redblacks vs Alouettes Prediction, Picks & Odds for Week 19

Although the Montreal Alouettes haven't been in prime form over their last few games, the defending champs are set to bounce back when they take on an Ottawa Redblacks team that is reeling.

Week 19 in the CFL wraps up on Monday when the Montreal Alouettes host the Ottawa Redblacks at Percival Molson Stadium.

Both teams are playoff-bound, but my Redblacks vs. Alouettes predictions are betting on the home side to prevail. Here are my best free CFL picks for this clash on Monday, October 14.

Redblacks vs Alouettes prediction

My best bet
Alouettes -4.5 (-102 at FanDuel)

My analysis

The Montreal Alouettes are the defending Grey Cup champs and were the best team in the CFL for most of the year. However, since clinching a playoff berth, they've gone just 1-2-1 straight up and 1-3 against the spread.

Although it's fair to question how motivated they'll be now that they've locked up first place in the East, their lone win and cover since the start of September came on the road against the Ottawa Redblacks in Week 16 — defeating their Eastern rivals 24-12.

The Redblacks are on an even worse skid than the Als, going just 1-4 SU and ATS in their last five games, with all of those defeats coming by double-digits. This is also an Ottawa squad that has struggled defensively on the road all year, allowing 34.1 points per game.

The Redblacks have been decimated by injuries on both sides of the ball with nine projected starters set to be out of commission this week. The most impactful injuries are to left tackle Dino Boyd, star receiver Justin Hardy, and their best defensive player Adarius Pickett — while quarterback Dru Brown is available despite being limited in practice with an ankle sprain that sidelined him in Week 17

The Als haven’t impressed me lately, but they need to build some momentum heading into the playoffs. Facing a banged-up Redblacks team that struggles on the road could be the perfect opportunity for them to get back on track.

Redblacks vs Alouettes same-game parlay (SGP)

Alouettes -4.5

Under 48.5

Khalan Laborn Over 67.5 rushing yards

Montreal's slow-paced offense has averaged just 306.8 yards per game over the last four contests. Ottawa's attack has also been sluggish lately, coming off a 16-point showing against the Roughriders and putting up just 12 points against the Als in the previous week. With rain also a strong possibility, both teams might take fewer shots downfield and run the ball.

Ottawa released running back Ryquell Armstead in September and his expected replacement Jamal Morrow has been sidelined by an injury. However, the starting spot has been snatched up by Khalan Laborn, who might be the most talented back in the CFL. Laborn clocked a 4.44 in the 40-yard dash and was a five-star recruit coming out of high school, receiving offers from powerhouse programs like Alabama, Georgia, and Ohio State.

Although Laborn totaled just 42 yards on eight carries in his last game, he rushed for 71 yards on 13 carries against Montreal the week prior and racked up 84 yards the week before that. He should find holes against an Als' defense that ranks second-last in the league in rushing yards allowed per game (120.3) and per carry (5.6).

Redblacks vs Alouettes spread and Over/Under analysis

  • The Als have gone 1-4 ATS in their last five games and are averaging a modest 23.6 ppg during that span.
  • Cody Fajardo has missed practice due to the birth of his child. He's listed as available but if he doesn't start, the Als went 4-0 both straight up and against the spread with Davis Alexander at quarterback earlier this year.
  • There's a 77% chance of rain during kickoff, although wind should be around 11 mph and shouldn't be a big factor.
  • Montreal is 6-0 SU and 5-1 ATS against Ottawa dating back to the start of last year.

Redblacks vs Alouettes trend

Ottawa is 3-13 ATS in its last 16 games versus East Division teams, while Montreal is 10-2-1 ATS in its previous 13 contests against divisional foes. Find more CFL betting trends for Redblacks vs. Alouettes.
