Roughriders vs Lions Prediction, Picks, & Odds for Week 6

Vernon Adams is on a record-breaking pace in the CFL, and we expect the BC Lions' elite offense to continue to produce when they take on an overrated Saskatchewan Roughriders' stop unit. Read more in our latest CFL picks.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders face off against the BC Lions in CFL action on Saturday night.

Although Saskatchewan is undefeated, my Roughriders vs. Lions predictions expect their defense to get exposed by the Leos' high-octane attack.

Here are my best free CFL picks for July 13.

Roughriders vs Lions prediction

My best bet
Lions team total Over 29.5 (-115 at Bet99)

My analysis
The Saskatchewan Roughriders might rank second in the league in scoring defense, but this stop unit looks a bit fraudulent. Don't forget that this defense was the worst in the league last year and besides a coaching change, they did little to upgrade on that side of the ball.

The Riders are allowing a CFL-worst 313 passing yards per game and the reason they haven't given up more points is due to their league-best 14 takeaways — including nine interceptions. However, many of those picks have been due to poor decision-making from opposing quarterbacks, and this week they face the league's top QB in Vernon Adams Jr.

Adams is currently the frontrunner in CFL MOP odds, and he leads the CFL with 350.8 passing yards per game and an efficiency rating of 121.7 while throwing just a single interception.

Adams spearheads a BC Lions attack that leads the CFL in yards per game (423), yards per play (7.5), and first downs (118). They're coming off a 44-point explosion against the Ticats, and as long as they limit turnovers, they will eclipse their team total under the retractable roof of BC Place.

Roughriders vs Lions same-game parlay (SGP)

Lions team total Over 30.5

Justin McInnis Over 79.5 receiving yards

Kian Schaffer-Baker Over 50.5 receiving yards

With defenses focused on stopping wideout Alexander Hollins, Justin McInnis should continue to do damage out of the slot. McInnis has racked up 90+ receiving yards in four of five games and he's coming off a career-best 10-catch, 144-yard performance against Hamilton.

Kian Schaffer-Baker hauled in four catches on a team-high seven targets last week and he quickly became Shea Patterson's favorite target. With starting QB Trevor Harris on the 6-game IL, Patterson will make his second career CFL start this week and he'll likely continue looking his way.

BC's defense does a great job of preventing deep passes but has been torched by slotbacks on short and intermediate routes.

Roughriders vs Lions opening odds

  • Spread: Saskatchewan +6.5 (-110) | BC -6.5 (-110)
  • Moneyline: Saskatchewan +240 | BC -300
  • Over/Under: Over 52.5 (-110)| Under 52.5 (-110)

Roughriders vs Lions spread and Over/Under analysis

  • Early money has come in on the Lions and the Under, moving the line past the key number of 7 and slimming the total to 51.5.
  • Although the Riders are 4-0 straight up and against the spread, they were outgained in three of those contests and needed a last-second field goal to win the other.
  • After losing their season opener to the Argos, the Lions have reeled off four straight wins, going 3-1 ATS during that span.
  • Patterson started slow in first career CFL start last week, but he completed 14-of-19 passes for 177 yards in the final three quarters.
