Roughriders vs Stampeders predictions
Roughriders Moneyline (+100)
The Stampeders are rolling right now, having won four of their last five games and fresh off a 39-10 beatdown of the Lions. Quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell looks healthy and is back to his typical efficient self, while the Stamps defense is allowing just 303.6 yards and 17 points per game over the last five contests.
The Roughriders are coming off a bye, and before that, lost back-to-back games against the Stamps. That's right, this will be Saskatchewan's third consecutive game versus Calgary after losing by six points in Week 9 and three points in Week 10.
The Stamps are trending in the right direction while the Riders are regressing, but it's never easy to beat a team three times in a row, especially when they're coming off a bye.
Keep in mind that the Riders were Grey Cup favorites earlier this season after a 3-0 start, and while injuries have piled up, they should be getting reinforcements. Shaq Evans, who racked up 1,334 receiving yards in 2019, practiced in full this week after missing the last seven games with a broken foot, while Duke Williams who led the CFL in receiving in 2018 and spent the last two years with the Buffalo Bills is expected to make his season debut.
Quarterback Cody Fajardo hasn't held back when criticizing the ability of his receivers to catch contested balls downfield this year. Evans and Williams should be a massive upgrade in that area, and that, along with a talented Riders squad looking to right the ship, should result in a bounce-back performance.
With the Stamps going 2-7 ATS in their last nine games at home and the Riders going 8-3 ATS in their previous 11 contests on the road, take Saskatchewan on the moneyline.
Over 44 (-110)
The last two meetings between these West Division foes cashed the Under, but there's reason to think this game might sneak over the total of 44.
When they previously met up on October 9, they totaled 41 points but left plenty of points on the field by combining for nine field goals — including four on unsuccessful trips into the red zone.
The additions of Evans and Williams should help Fajardo finish drives and recapture the form he showed earlier in the season when he was named a CFL top performer in Weeks 2, 3, and 8.
Calgary's offense is also starting to get up to full speed, with receivers Josh Huff and Kamar Jorden both practicing in full on Wednesday. Mitchell struggled earlier in the year as he recovered from injuries and needed to build chemistry with a new group of receivers, but he has completed 70 percent of his passes for 566 yards in his last two games.
If he's anywhere near the QB that won the CFL Most Outstanding Player Award in 2016 and 2018, he should be able to help push this game over the total.
