The Toronto Argonauts welcome the Hamilton Tiger-Cats to BMO Field in CFL action on Friday night.

With Hamilton facing a must-win situation to stay alive in the playoff race, my Tiger-Cats vs. Argonauts predictions expect them to be fired up for this Week 16 clash.

Here are my best free CFL picks for this rivalry showdown on September 20.

My best bet
Tiger-Cats +7 (-110 at DraftKings)

My analysis

The Toronto Argonauts are coming off an impressive win after going to the West Coast and beating the Lions 33-17 as 4.5-point dogs. That said, this could be a bit of a letdown spot, and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats have already upset them twice this season.

Granted, those two defeats happened in Hamilton and the Argos are 5-1 at BMO Field this season, but they won't enjoy their usual home-field advantage in this matchup. The Ticats don't exactly have to travel far to get to BMO, and many of their fans make the short trip up the QEW to lend their support.

The Ticats are playing their best ball of the year. They nearly upset the red-hot Bombers on the road in Week 12, edged the Argos in Week 13, and came off a bye to dominate the Redblacks 37-21 last Saturday.

The Tabbies surprisingly lead the league in yards per game (395.1) and yards per play (7.01), but sloppy turnovers hamstrung their offense earlier in the year. They've done a much better job of taking care of the ball in recent weeks and have also made strides on defense, with Chris Jones coming in as their defensive coordinator just before Week 12.

With Chad Kelly at QB and a defense that's getting back some key pieces, the Argos could be one of the most dangerous teams in the league down the stretch, but this is too many points to spot them.

Tiger-Cats vs Argonauts same-game parlay (SGP)

Tiger-Cats +7.5

Under 53.5

Kiondre Smith Under 40.5 receiving yards

While the Ticats have allowed a league-worst 31.5 points per game, much of that came earlier in the year when turnovers from their offense led to easy points from their foes.

Hamilton's improved stop unit has picked off seven passes over the last three games, and the Argos could use a more conservative approach with Chad Kelly to ensure he doesn't give the ball away. In addition, Toronto's stop unit should be better with defensive tackle Jared Brinkman and linebacker Wynton McManis returning to the lineup after a lengthy absence.

Kiondre Smith is putting together a solid season but this number is too high for a receiver that has been an afterthought the last three weeks, totaling just four catches on nine targets for 53 yards during that span.
