Against the spread (ATS) pick

The Argos have a good 'ol fashioned QB battle on their hands. They began the season with 2019 starter McLeod Bethel-Thompson under center, then replaced him with offseason acquisition Nick Arbuckle midway through a Week 2 loss to Winnipeg. Arbuckle led them to a revenge victory against the Bombers in Week 3 but was pulled against the Ti-Cats after throwing two picks.

Both of these teams have identical 2-2 records but Hamilton has more momentum after a 32-19 victory against the Argos on Labor Day.

However, the Argos actually outgained the Ti-Cats 369-332 in total yards and had almost four more minutes of ball control in that contest. In addition, Bethel-Thompson looked sharp in relief, completing 8-12 passes for 111 yards and a score. It was turnovers and a punt return touchdown from Frankie Williams that cost the Argos the game.

It's always tough to win (and cover the spread as a fave) in consecutive weeks against the same opponent, especially when that foe is at home. We saw that in Week 3 when the Argos beat the Bombers as 4.5-point home dogs despite losing 20-7 just a week earlier. Expect the Argos to make the necessary adjustments and back them on the spread.

PREDICTION: Toronto +4 (-110)

Over/Under pick

The Ti-Cats had a bit of a QB controversy of their own. Jeremiah Masoli was named a CFL East All-Star in 2018 but suffered a season-ending injury in his sixth game of the 2019 season.

Backup Dane Evans took over and had a fantastic year, leading Hamilton to the Grey Cup and passing for over 330 yards in seven of his last nine games. When this season started, Masoli got his job back but, banged up and struggling, he has been replaced by Evans who has, once again, been very efficient.

It's also worth mentioning that Hamilton's star receiver Brandon Banks has yet to put together a good game this year. The speedster had 2,970 receiving yards and 24 touchdowns in 30 games during 2018 and 2019, but has just 157 receiving yards and hasn't found the end zone in four contests this year. Once he gets going, this passing game could be scary again.

We mentioned that Bethel-Thompson looked good after replacing Arbuckle on Monday and perhaps Toronto coach Ryan Dinwiddie was too quick to replace the 2019 starter with someone he had coached in Calgary. After all, the Blue Bombers proved in Week 5 against Cody Fajardo that their defense can make any passer look silly.

Don't forget that Bethel-Thompson threw for 4,024 yards and 26 touchdowns with a mediocre receiving corps in 2019, and he gashed the Stampeders for 354 yards through the air in Week 1 this year. And with the Argos now boasting an entirely new group of starting receivers they are just starting to scratch the surface of their newfound chemistry with Bethel-Thompson.

The Argos offense ranks second in the league with 381.8 yards per game but their defense ranks third-worst in points per game allowed with 23.8. With the Over cashing in seven of the last eight games between these rivals, don't hesitate to back it again.

PREDICTION: Over 45.5 (-110)
