Tiger-Cats vs Lions Prediction, Picks & Odds for Week 17

Week 5's battle between these two teams saw each side combine for more than 70 points, and Trevor Knapp expects an encore ahead of Friday night's matchup inside the passer-friendly confines of BC Place.

While the Hamilton Tiger-Cats have won three in a row and are making a late push for the playoffs, the BC Lions have faltered, dropping three out of their last five games with Nathan Rourke under center.

Despite both teams trending in different directions, my Tiger-Cats vs. Lions predictions expect no shortage of offense when these two teams meet under the roof of BC Place in Week 17 action.

My best bet
Over 53.5 (-105 at FanDuel)

My analysis
At first thought, you'd think taking the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the points would be my best bet, but a much-needed bye for the BC Lions has me zeroing in on the total instead.

The Lions' offense has needed the week off to regroup offensively, as Nathan Rourke's return north of the border has not gone to plan. The former NFL pivot sports a 4:7 TD/INT ratio following five starts for BC, and a measly 78.1 passer rating heading into Friday's contest at BC Place.

Regardless, the weapons around Rourke remain elite. Running back William Stanback anchors the backfield, while top receiver Justin McInnis and 2023 CFL All-Star Keion Hatcher bolster a deep receiving corps. The Lions also shredded the Ticats secondary the last time these two teams met, with BC prevailing 44-28 back in July.

Meanwhile, the Ticats' offense has had no issues down the stretch, eclipsing 30 points in all of their last three contests. Hamilton is averaging a league-high 397.6 yards of net offence per game and now faces a Leos defense allowing a 108.3 passer rating and 72.9% completion percentage to opposing QBs.

BC is also banged up defensively, missing corner Ciante Evans and linebacker Bo Lokombo, so Ryan Phillips' unit should struggled to contain the Ticats' attack.

All signs point towards a high-scoring shootout on Friday, so I'm hammering the Over.

Tiger-Cats vs Lions same-game parlay (SGP)

Over 53.5

Bo Levi Mitchell Over 300.5 passing yards

Keion Hatcher Over 62.5 receiving yards

Following a disastrous first season with Hamilton, Bo Levi Mitchell has bounced back in 2024. The two-time MOP has turned back the clock, leading the CFL in passing yards (4,044) and passing touchdowns (24). Facing a porous BC secondary in Week 17, back Mitchell to keep slinging it.

Keion Hatcher was one of Rourke's go-to targets in 2022, eclipsing 1,000 receiving yards. The former NFL wideout led the team with eight targets in the Lions' most recent game, and with No. 2 receiver Alexander Hollins ruled out for Friday, I expect Hatcher to take on an even more prominent role.
