Tiger-Cats vs Redblacks Prediction, Picks & Odds for Week 21

Despite Hamilton's playoff hopes being dashed, Bo Levi Mitchell & Co. have shown strong enough form down the stretch for Rohit Ponnaiaya to snag the points ahead of Friday's regular-season finale.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats wrap up their season with a road trip to the nation's capital to face the Ottawa Redblacks on Friday.

Although Ottawa will be in the playoffs for the first time since 2018, my Tiger-Cats vs. Redblacks predictions are fading them in a largely meaningless Week 21 showdown. Here are my best free CFL picks for this clash on October 25.

Tiger-Cats vs Redblacks prediction

My best bet
Tiger-Cats +2.5 (-110 at FanDuel)

My analysis

On one hand, this is an Ottawa Redblacks team that doesn't want to go into the playoffs having lost six games in a row. On the other hand, they dealt with a slew of injuries during the second half of the season and will be reluctant to risk playing starters.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats were already eliminated from the playoffs last week, but that didn't stop them from playing with fire and demolishing the Stampeders 42-20. After an ugly start to their season, the Ticats have gone 5-1 straight up and against the spread in their last six games.

The turnover problems that plagued the Tabbies earlier in the year have been cleaned up and they now lead the CFL in yards per game (398.6) and yards per play (7.03).

Quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell has put together a resurgent season, leading the league in passing yards (5,026) and touchdowns (31) by wide margins. He should light up an Ottawa secondary allowing 309.6 passing yards per game and 9.7 yards per pass attempt over the last seven contests.

In a game between two teams with little to play for in the final week of the regular season, it's often advisable to simply back the side catching points. That's even more of the case when the favorite comes in on a losing streak.

Tiger-Cats vs Redblacks same-game parlay (SGP)

Tiger-Cats +2.5

Over 50.5

With an explosive offense and a leaky defense, the Ticats are 5-1 O/U in their last six games. Meanwhile, the Redblacks combined for 876 yards and 69 points with Toronto last week.

In their matchup last month, both teams combined for over 430 yards of offense and scored 58 points, despite totaling seven turnovers. Ottawa benched Dru Brown near the end of the third quarter in that contest and backup Jeremiah Masoli completed 13-of-19 passes for 183 yards and two scores. Even if Brown doesn't play much this week, the Redblacks should still be able to move the ball with the experienced Masoli.
