Is there any value on betting Clottley (vs Cotto)?

if your expecting a ko artist or the second coming of ike quartey then everyone is going to be upset.....

Here is clottey best 4 oppenents....Judah, a old chico corrales, baldomir and Margarito...with a 3-1......none with the speed or power combination of cotto or the abilty to trade a fury of punches and bang the body..........Clottey is in the quintana, cintron, collazo group.......versus a cotto or mosely...no chance...

thats why cotto took the fight...an interesting one on paper for the but in all reality a mismatch......

Whoa Cintron man? Cintron was a BUM from Day #1. And Collazo is a VERY good fighter. He BEAT Ricky Hatton and got ROBBED, he fought at LEAST a DRAW against Andre Berto. How can you say Collazo is in the same league as Cintron! That's just wrong!

Cintron above 140 pounds is a D+ Figher, at 140 at his best a C+

Collazo is a STRONG B+ Fighter, match up wise  he would be a VERY difficult matchup for COTTO!

Clottey got DQ'd over a GUY he was demolishing Carlos Baldomir, and he was destroying Maragrito until he hurt his hand in the 4th. Thats his "2 losses".

Zab Juddah had Cotto Severely HURT, if Cotto didn't hit Juddah with a low BLOW he would of been out.
I dislike Zab Juddah but he has amazing hand speed and GREAT power, He's just a 4 round FIGHTER who has mental issues.

Cotto's lone win (against a REAL fighter) was against Mosley, which was pretty much a DRAW.

Cotto's other BIG FIGHT.. he QUIT, he have up he had no gas left in the TANK and QUIT.  The punches Margarito landed at the end didn't matter Cotto had already decided to quit after he couldn't run n gun after the 8th.

I don't see this as a Mis-match, unless Cotto had padding added to his CHIN, and can box  for 12 rounds... and suddenly learned defense, I don't see a "Mis-Match".

I see a good matchup, Cotto has superior hand speed, and only is the better BODY puncher IF he goes to go toe, which he didn't do against Margarito who is slow as can be!

Defense-Jab-Chin in favor of Clottey... versus Cotto's hand speed + foot speed and counter punching assuming he goes to to toe.

Could it me a mismatch? Yes on BOTH sides! But I see this as being a good back and forth fight. Both exposing each other's weaknesses!

This will probably my only wager because although I like Cotto to win, the odds seem a little inflated. The fact that he doesn't seem to have a quality trainer in his corner also bothers me somewhat. Over seems like the safer wager as of now.

Clottey looks very solid.  It would be nice to see him get a little mainstream recognition.  He's as solid as you can get from an underdog.

Could it me a mismatch? Yes on BOTH sides! But I see this as being a good back and forth fight. Both exposing each other's weaknesses!

i believe i worded myself wrong......they are all possible cherry-pickin title holders or gateway oppenents.....and yes cintron is on the back end of that list and collazo is the best out of the 4.....

at 147 collazo, clottley, quintana, julio (u can add him since honestly he has no business at 154 looking that unfit),,,  urango (better at 140) and last Cintron ......

if collazo had power he would be a b+ fighter....his isnt strong enough at 147 for that ranking...honestly i see taylor like dissapointment coming from berto's camp in the future

'Cotto's lone win (against a REAL fighter) was against Mosley, which was pretty much a DRAW

'....and he is hands down the best fighter at 147 and also the most ducked after paul williams!!! That win means everything....

so judah did good for 1 round....okay but he could have took a knee and still won the fight...judah has great power.....at 140 maybe or like 5 years ago.......

cotto quit versus margarito??????? his nose was broken and he was swallowing blood versus a possibly cheating fighter......

its a  known rumor he hurt his hand....but how bad....he fought corralles almost 5 months later...for camp and healing of a serverly  damaged or even a average damaged hand thats a short recovery time.....

for the maginitude of fight against  corrales i believe if he real hurt his had he would of waited alittle longer...

ill lay it down now....its a mismatch

Thing is, Cotto's gonna have another busted nose against Clottey.  Check Clottey's last 4-5 opponents and you'll see they all had blood pouring out their nose.  Margarito's ear was bleeding against him.  Clottey doesn't have KO power, but he causes a ton of facial damage.

Not sure how well Cotto's gonna handle it.

I definitely agree he could of possibly cheated, I stated that hand wrapping incident basically revived Cotto's Career. One has to be fair, he attempted to wrap his hands against Mosley got caught, without a doubt the LOSS by Cotto is Thrown OUT in my book. We will never know if he cheated, but I assume if he was using it against Mosley, I'm sure at that time the biggest fight of his career was Cotto I believe he used the wraps!

Yes Cotto DID QUIT, fact is he did an excellent job of boxing, for 8 rounds, he was more of a counter puncher than the jabber/boxer type. Excellent strategy to have if YOU CAN execute. He did impress me with some nice boxing, skills he never showed before the Margarito fight.

Still cannot take away he RAN out of GAS, if he didn't he would of never been caught or cornered.

Julio was exposed a while back, moving up will do nothing but weaken his punch.

I think the IN FIGHT analysis said he broke his hand, but he just suffered a bad right hand or something. I mean no way a guy is going to fake it when he's winning easily. You can clearly see from round four on he didn't throw the right the same way.

Styles make fights, and this one clashes badly. This is more of a MAJOR  clash of Style Contrast. Each guy's weakness if the other guys strength!

Cotto had the hand speed and better foot speed and the better body puncher.

Clottey has a better stiffer JAB, BETTER CHIN, Better Defense.

BOTH guys look to break you down, to me this is where it gets interesting.

I love Clottey as a fighter, but he's a WYSIYYG- "What you see is what you get"

If COTTO CAN be disciplined .he can win a decision, based on his superior hand speed.

One thing I know for sure even though CLOTTEY is a WYSIYYG fighter, he is a VERY determined and STRONG fighter. I believe the strongest OVER ALL that Cotto has ever faced.

Another thing we can all agree on is the line is WAY TOO HIGH.  Which for some, may be a good thing :)

I have no pick just yet, I need to see the Clottey fight versus Margarito again, who knows maybe Clottey hurt his hand BLOCKING Maragritos hand wraps lol! You seriously never know!

I don't think this is a mis-match I believe this is a big difference in  style contrast. All depends which style you like.

Just watched Cotto vs Judah and I think Cotto was having some real trouble in the start with Judah's crisp and fast punches

Ive always thought Cotto was a bit overrated. I had Margarito against him , i guess everyone that lost to AM gets a pass because of his shenanigans, but I dont know if Clottey can beat him. Clotteys big win is vs a washed up Diego Corrales other than that his resume isnt really a who's who of boxing its more like a who? of boxing.

I wouldnt lay the giant chalk with Cotto but I dont think there is any reason to take Clottey. If he cant hurt Cotto he will just get beat on for 12 rounds

Clottey up to +300 now on 5Dimes

Hopefully this gets into the "ridiculous" range. . .  I'd love to see +350 or higher on this

Question is who HASN'T hurt Cotto?

Ricardo Torres at 140, seriously hurt HIM. In fact Larry Merchant  called Cotto the Puerto Rican version of "Arturo Gatti" after that fight.

A old Chop CHOP HURT HIM, ZAB juddah had him really hurt and he did a low blow to get back his feet! He did the same to Torres!

All I know is Clottey will be coming in at about 165 pounds or higher  and will have about 10 pounds on Cotto.

He's been doing this his whole life, and this is the first time Cotto is facing a guy better than him at almost everything, this isn't a slow looping Maragrito, this is a guy who is a technically sound BOXER who has some serious sting in his punches.

Does he has 1 punch KO power? NO neither does Cotto, they break you down to the body and eventually you crack.

Clottey does have the one PUNCH that CAN easily KO Cotto, my friend that is called the UPPERCUT :) NO one throws it better than Clottey.

Oh and Btw the loss to Margarito, he hurt his hand, he was destroying Maragrito for the first 4 rounds until he hurt his hand. I have more respect for a guy who finishes a fight hurt, than a guy who runs out of gas .. and QUITS (Cotto QUIT against Maragrito).

Again not many options for people the chalk is too big for Cotto backers, but analyze that, why would it be too much chalk .. -350 for battling a man you say is a WHO?

I can see some on the fence, they know Clotttey is a dangerous fighter, and the chalk would be too high, so some will take the distance/decision route.

Of course Cotto can win a decision in MSG, we know Clottey's Faults, sometimes goes into a defensive shell also LUNGES too often and gives a few rounds away. We all know Clottey has an IRON CHIN and have never been KO'd.

If one feels Clottey is a "WHO" -350 is a walk in the park NO?

I believe it's already in the ridiculous range, nothing that I've seen from Cotto warrants a line this large.

Clottey , to me , isnt a big KO guy.

I am and have been one of the biggest Cotto bashers on this board in the past but I think he is gonna win this fight on Saturday

Since you say the chalk is too large, for Cotto, confidence level cannot be too high? I don't mean that in a negative way, but certain fights we all have confidence levels and certain fights we feel are risky..

If the chalk is too large, how would you be playing this fight for a "WHO " fighter? Decision?

Neither are KO artists, they both attack the body and break you down.

I know prior matchups really don't matter in boxing since styles makes fights, but when Clottey fought Margarito he threw the kitchen sink at him and with only one good arm almost pulled the upset.

I'll get at least +330 on matchbook or something.  Waiting until the last minute on this one, as I think it will only rise

    Thanks

Way too much focus on Clottey hurting his hand and it was never broken.  Margairto broke his will when Clottey hit him with tremendous counterpunches and The Terminator kept coming forward throwing natsy body punches in the corner then Clottey let the whole arena know he had a hand problem which was just an excuse because he knew he was in with someone who was actually tougher and more fit than him.   Margo had a crappy, ankle injured camp also .    Always the X factor of loaded gloves though with Margo...

I'd be stunned if Clottey took more than 3 rounds. It wouldn't surprise me if he got stopped either. The guy is simply too inactive to compete with Cotto. He'll probably "injure" his hand halfway through the fight and blame his inability to throw punches on that. Cotto will be my play, probably by decision just to get some value out of it.

Would you be terribly shocked if Miguel Cotto quit again? History always repeats itself.

I am not betting it but I think Cotto will win...so as far as confidence (or the fact that I refuse to lay -300 on someone not named Manny Pacqiuao) I guess I am not confident enough to bet it but my pick in the fight is Miguel Cotto
