With tonites pending fight between V. Klitschko and D. Haye I thought this is the perfect time to open a discussion about the top ten fighters of of all time. Just limiting the discussion to the top ten heavyweights would have limited and quite frankly boring. So To kick it off here's Bert Sugars Top Ten Boxers of all time. I thought this would be a good place to start because he is old enough to have seen all of the fighters on the list. Tell me what you think.

Jack Demsey after winning the Heavyweight title fought 6 times in 6 years losing both times to Tunney. He wouldn't make my Heavyweight list yet alone Pound-For-Pound. To exclude Marciano and have Demsey is a joke. Funny you mention Bert Sugar cause I mentioned what a joke he is as an analyst just days earlier. He has 4 Heavyweights in his top ten... get real! Armstrong, Robinson, Duran, etc... I have no problem with. Even with Ali, Joe Louis hard to discredit them too. Dempsey over Marciano, even Lennox Lewis, Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield. When Bert Sugar starts talking, I stop listening. He's too nostalgic and fails to realize that the modern athletes are ALMOST always superior to their predecessors. Tyson, Holyfield, Lewis, both Klitschkos, Holmes, Ali, Foreman all would have beat the living hell out of Dempsey in his prime.
It doesn't take much viewing of the tapes to see a very crude brawler that would easily be handled by a larger, faster, more fluid heavyweight.

cubman, you mentioned you didn't know who harry greb is, that's a shame, I would most likely rate him as the toughest fighter in the history of the sport. he fought everone from welterweight to heavyweight that was willing to fight him, ring magazine rates him as the greatest middleweight of all time, I usually have him at 2 or 3 depending on which day you ask me. their are no fight films of his on tape, although his fight with mickey walker and I beleive both tiger flowers fights were filmed, but have been lost in the archives, maybe one day someone will stumble across them, their is training scessions of him availible on the internet,for those interested.
