Many people feel Roy had the fastest hands and reflexes of any fighter ever, and he also had a big punch and at super middleweight (168) and light heavyweight (175) you can imagine opponents being overwhelmed. Roy Jones Jr also played a league basketball game in the morning and defended his boxing title later that evening. George Foreman made comments regarding Roy's approach stating that he won't be champ long if he continues to approach fights without 100%. Roy heard the criticism and said he takes his fights just as serious. The one big knock is they say Roy never fought great opposition. First off, there wasn't a flood of greats at those weights at his time. Secondly, the guys that were he beat easily. Hopkins wasn't the same fighter but he beat him and James Toney likewise. At age 34 (after 14 years pro) he had to lose 20lbs of ripped muscle density after winning the Heavyweight Championship (which for those that don't know does more physical damage and makes most people diminish their physical attributes on a severe scale) and return to light heavyweight where he looked very weak in decision win. He rematched like a champion and loss to a TKO in round two and that signified the end of RJJ and the end of maybe the most gifted boxer all time!

KWIK-E-MART, you said that you are a new fan of the sport, here are some of my favorite fights that you should check out, salvador sanchez vs azumah nelson, to me sanchez is the greatest conditioned athlete who ever lived, it did not matter how tough of a fight he was in, the man never got winded, his stamina is unmatched, he was a poker face as well, never changing his facial expression, his opponents never knew how he was feeling inside and nelson is pure warrior. ricardo lopez vs rosendo alvarez 2, lopez is technically the best to ever do it and alvarez is a tough as they come, with very underrated skills, alexis arguello vs ruben olivares, so much going on in this fight, at times I looks like olivares is easily out boxing him, but arguello is setting him up all the way, emanuel augustus(burton) vs micky ward, a fuckin war from 1 through 10, james toney vs vasilily jirov, a guy that comes forward vs a guy who wants you to. Also if you like pure boxers check out willie pep, wilfred benitez, pernell whitaker, if you like brawlers check out gene fullmer, carmen basilio, henry armstrong, and one other guy who could and did do it all is johnny tapia, unfortanitly I feel that history will forget how great that this man was in his prime, he might be the best combination puncher that I have ever seen. I am waching his fight vs herny martinez as I right this.

Azumah Nelson vs Jeff Fenech I was outside at Mirage. Nelson stated after he suffered from left elbow problems and battled Malaria up until a week prior to the fight. Regardless, after the scorecard announcement it had to be the most silent crowd of roughly 40,000 people I've ever witnessed. People weren't protesting, they were in total shock and waiting for the prank to be over and hear the real scorecards. thesouldpurpose, thanks for the memory. I felt for Fenech who fought his heart out and won only to be cheated. After that Fenech was never the same.

thesoulpurpose: Sanchez may have been the best conditioned boxer (possibly athlete) ever, but my point was emphasizing RJJ and what a freak he was to have those abilities especially at that weight class (168lbs and higher). You don't see that type of speed and reflexes even at middleweight. RJJ also had that quick strike that could not a guy out when it seemed he was too far away. Roy also had somewhat unconventional style (many fighters then didn't have or emulate) where he kept one hand down below his side constantly.

I remember watching one of my first bouts ever which was Pryor vs Arguello I on HBO. The Ring called it the Fight of the Year and the Fight of Decade. Recently, Panama Lewis has been under speculation regarding the contents of Pryor's water bottle. It did seem that he was washed up then suddenly rejuvenated after the bottle. Curious when they hand the bottle to Panama he states he wants the other water bottle (if they are both water, why the change?).

Roy jones is most likely the best athlete in the history of the sport, I am still not sure where I put him on my all time greats list, would he be able to beat guys like ezzard charles, bob forster, archie moore, could he out box someone like harold johnson or tommy loughran, is he tough enough to deal with someone like sam langford, to me ranking roy is harder than anyone, is his athletic ability enough to beat all of these men. it's a tough case to judge

Panama lewis said not that bottle the one that I mixed, then he asked pryor ok, ok, he said it 2 times, pryor nodded his head yes, drank from the MIXED bottle and then went out and koed arguello the next round, after he had lost the round before big. using anything other than water was illegal, MIXED was the word used, they cheated, no question about it,

Lara will be just fine as everyone these days can watch the replay online and it doesn't hurt his ranking. Fenech gave everything he had in one fight and they took away his moment. I'm not one for trophies, celebrations, etc... the fun for me is fighting, or playing ball - but this was a rare moment people were silent. They didn't even have the energy to protest. Yes Azumah was a warrior and wasn't lying about the problems pre-fight, but that doesn't take away what Fenech did. I've been literally at many fights but this was the only time 40,000 fans were on their feet then dead silence. It was almost that eerie feeling when something way out of the ordinary happened. Lara will rebound and be a decent fighter and he fought Williams to percision.

Zouk, I did Check out Julian "The Hawk" Jackson . the guy was wicked. No mercy - kinda cruel the way he waved goodbye when the guy is going down - lol
thesoulpurpose - I did watch salvador sanchez vs azumah nelson. and highlights of salvador sanchez. it looks like he has a long reach but im not sure. How important is the reach ( long arms ) in boxing?
one thing I noticed when watching the pacquiao vs. margarito fight is manny throws punches in bunches and more ( punches in bunches ) for 11 rounds. how does he get so much energy?
I remember growing up watching sugar ray leonard vs. marvin hagler. what did yall think of that fight? leonard had his right doimg circles and the stuck him with the left jab
also wasn't there some guy named duran. not sure what did yall think of him.

thesoulpurpose: Roy Jones has to be the one of the hardest to rank for sure because he could match-up with anyone and be a favorite (lol). Then we have to take into account his fight history and competition (downfall- not his fault, give him credit fighting heavyweight even though Ruiz was perfect for him with no KO power).
