Standard recommendation posted all over the internet including on Covers.com is for 2-3% of total BR per bet (like Wolefman3 stated!) for an average bettor, which includes beginners. Skilled and experienced handicappers will of course bet a higher percentage of their total BR because they are less likely to lose than the average guy.
3% would be a minimum for the skilled and experienced handicapper on any given bet. Highly skilled handicappers bet an even higher percentage of their total BR as for them there is an even smaller chance of losing.
Any bet with no assigned units is assumed a one unit bet thereby costing 3% of total BR, for the skilled handicapper.
10 games bet, each for one unit, would mean 30% of total BR is being risked. Likewise it follows logically that a 10 unit bet on a single game is also costing 30% of total BR (as Wolfeman3 agreed!)
Therefore if a person truly is a skilled and experienced handicapper then he is logically limited to an absolute maximum of about 33 units in play at any given moment before he tops out his entire BR, except the vast majority of the skilled and experienced handicappers would rarely even approach maxing out their BR.
Yesterday, this thread posted 87 units in play at one given time.
Sunday we see 32 units in play posted already!

And with that, now 70 units in play at one time!
Not even possible for a skilled and experienced handicapper, since they would be betting 2.5% to 5% of the total BR on each and every UNIT!
The skilled and experienced handicapper by virtue of betting a higher percentage of his BR on any one unit than an average bettor (2%-3%) will logically be limited to somewhere between 20 to as much as 33 units in play maximum. Simple math.
On the other hand, it is possible to "claim" to bet far more units than anyone would even think of doing at one time if it's "pretend land"
Pretend bettors on an internet forum can "claim" anything, even when it defies logic!
"Paper tiger" or Fraud
Same pretend bettor "claimed" to risk bets of 357.5 units on Washington Huskies in the college football final
