Tennessee provening up their lofty rank.....I love this team and I can't wait to see them in the Tourney. Older team mixing in some young talent and they are strong, tough and athletic.

The worm has turned.....I have gotten sloppy as my teams that I put my faith in, have gotten sloppy.

............maybe too much youth and swagger for Coach K's liking and the players are falling flat on their faces lately...Syracuse loss is the final straw. If they beat Virginia.....I might put them as #2 or 3 but I honestly think all the teams on this level can beat them in March!
TIER #2 - might get there by the end to the Final 4 ?

The report I gave you on the Ducks was bogus. The short slow point guard, the slender young freshman 2 guard, and the center that did nothing in the 2 games I saw have not even got on the floor in their last 2 games.
I told you I saw a report they were getting some players back and I needed to check up on it. They must have had a lot of injuries earlier when I wasn't paying much attention to the Pacifist 12. They are a completely different team now. The kids playing now didn't play in the first two games I saw. Their athleticism has increased 300% as has their ability to defend with pressure. The first couple games I saw their defense was weaker than well water and their press was anemic. That is no longer the case. They get on the glass good now as well, quick twitch jumpers.
I'm pretty impressed with them now. I kept wondering why they kept being ranked 45 in KP when I thought they were sorry. Now I know why. Oregon will be able to contend for the PAC 12 Title. Them and Washington are the two best teams at present imo. UCLA probably has the most talent but that's another story. I got lucky with that 3*Bruins that night at Oregon. That's when I realized they are a completely different team now.
I played the Ducks against Zona. Probably play them again tomorrow.
I wouldn't overreact to Duke's loss to Cuse. They were already without Reddish when Tre Jones went down in the first half. That's their two best shooters from deep and their floor general. Those 2 could have shot holes in that zone. It would compare it to Zaga playing without Perkins and Norvell.
RJ wasn't much of a point guard. He also didn't get to play his game being on the ball. He is much better getting that advance pass from Jones in the open floor on the fly from the wing.
Duke 9-43 from trey land. Ouch!
Dukes backups could not guard the Orange guards. They beat them on straight line drives all night. Duke couldn't handle their guards in the 1 on 1 situations. Plus the Orange shot better than they had all season. It was the best game I have seen them play this year without question.
I tip my hat to Professor Boeheim and his boys. They earned it and deserved to win.
But still, I think it would have been different if the Devils were at full strength.
If you can't close you can't cover.

I had to type that last report twice. I lost the first one right before I hit the submit button. I need to sign off and reboot. It's getting wambly again.

I'm not that impressed with the Tar Heels. They're good but not elite. If you look at the teams that beat them-Texas, Michigan, KY, Louavul-they all have one thing in common. They all play get in your face, sticky, hard nosed man to man team defense. NC does not like that at all and doesn't deal with it very well. Mich held them to 67, KY 72, Louis 62.
To me NC is a bit soft and their D is not top flight. They let teams do what they want offensively and deny very little. They just want them to shoot a quick shot and lets go because they are really strong on the glass.
Michigan made them have to guard deep into the shot clock and KY did some of that too. The Cards just did whatever they wanted. Lol
Brey knew he didn't have the personnel to match up with them like that. So he dropped back into a packed zone to slow them down, negate easy buckets down low, and let them fire away from deep. ND was in the game until the end, 75-69. NC was never outside the #.
The Irish didn't have a player on the floor who could play for NC. But they were smarter and stuck to the gameplan.
The Heels want that free wheeling up and down game into the 180's +, when they don't get that racehorse pace with both teams taking quick shots they don't like it, get frustrated, and become vulnerable.
Yea, they beat Zaga, but the Bulldogs played their game. They were also off the Vols game and a long road trip for college kids.(They can't beat them now with Tillie and Crandall back in the fold)
Heels also beat the Pack, but again, NC St went up and down with them and played UNC's game.
I'm not saying I won't play the Heels because I will if I like the matchup.
Helk, I might be on them tomorrow.
That's my 2 cents. Doesn't mean that I'm right. Just my opinions for others to consider. I could be totally wrong.

Ole Miss -7 (2x)....time for some payback and get back to what they do best and thats kick good teams on their home-court....and its debatable if Arkansas is a strong team 2-8 ATS in last 10 vs Ole Miss 9-1 ATS???
More to come.....

Saturday Plays:
UNC -6.5 (2x) ....huge rebounding, FT and general aggression on the offensive half of the court edges.....shooting as well

Virginia +3.5 (10 Units) .....yes, Zion will have a field day but I don't think RJ will with the defense and inside length around the rim that Cavs have.....they are shooting and passing better than I have seen in a Cavs team in a while and shutdown a tough VTECH offense who can do anything.....youth will hurt Duke in this one with lots of turnovers. If I am wrong....won't mind because $700 on a team I rate as my #1 team over Tennessee who might be 1A is worth it when I am getting +3.5 pts. TRE JONES NOT PLAYING AT POINT is a bonus! His assists and steals will be missed vs a razor sharp and well tuned Cavaliers team.
Can't wait

Love your perspectives Funk....but you do realize, their are 5 seasons in a NCAAB season. 1. Non-Con 2. Con-play 3. Con-play lets make some considerable practice adjusts 4. Lets mix in some zone /press and new offense for the big dance and finally, THE BIG DANCE.
1. Nov-Dec
2. January.- March
3. Good teams like Duke/UNC who play a lot of rivalry games start tweaking in January....I think UNC has started and I don't think Duke will ....maybe during 4-time...such a young team but Roy will fiddle around because I believe he thinks he has the horses to make the final 4 and maybe win it....I think he has a chance. I am watching their tendencies for sure
4. Most TOP25 team coaches do this for their second rivalry game to have a chance to show that they can have that style of play in their toolbelt ready for the BD in March ....and it does not work, they can easily revert to Nov-Dec mode....makes it hard to scout them

Looks like UNC is asserting their BOSS offense now and tightening the screws on defense......Funk, you are spot on with your assessment of a lazy defense at times but the second half is showing they can tighten the screws and put the stranglehold on a tight game. Duke took away Cavs 3 pt shot with their length and aggressive dee...but Cavs showing they are complete on offense!!!
Duke can't hit the 3 pt in this game and Cavs are hanging in their with their aggressive inside dee despite the 2 best players on the court coming at them!
Barrett is unreal and only 18 yrs old....sorry, I draft him because he can get out of double team/triple teams
