Basically this article states that Stanley Robinson has played in 40 college basketball games without receiving A SINGLE COLLEGE CREDIT!  How can this even be allowed?

A few of the highlights for those to lazy to read:

1.  He reaffirmed Thursday that he withdrew from classes last spring. It never was made clear precisely what happened, with Jim Calhoun once calling it an "academic redshirt." It was Calhoun who appealed to the dean on Robinson's behalf to prevent him from failing out.

2.  If Stanley Robinson turns pro after this tournament:  That would have meant he'd post zero grades during a 16-month period in which he played more than 40 games. While it evidently would have broken no rules, it sure would have made the notion of student-athleticism a sad joke.

3.  UConn is saddled with accusations of NCAA violations involving agents with institutional interests. But that is the result of an investigation by Yahoo!, not NCAA elbow grease. If the NCAA is going to rake in hundreds of millions, with media partners tiptoeing around using current athletes' images in video games, etc., it makes you want to scream, "Either quit the charade of student-athleticism or enforce it. Pay the students or make the cheaters pay."

In the meantime, I sure hope every word of Stanley Robinson's academic rebound is on the level. I'm naive. I'm still cheering for the romance.

Woop, I literally laughed out loud when I saw your new thread bashing UConn more.  Why do you hate them so much? Enlighten me.

By the way, I heard Robinson had spend his fall term working at a steel mill to support his family.  Probably bullshit though.

Woop, I grew up in CT and for 25 years, I have absolutely despised UConn, Calhoun, their players, fans, the list goes on and on......

Reasons I don't like them...

15 arrests in 11 years
academic ineligibility
players who smoke/drink everyday don't care about anything (know a few of them personally)
Major recruiting violations
Calhoun is a pompous asshole
The fans are the worst

Good players yes... any integrity or care for anything else in the world (academics, people, law, etc) not in the slightest

Thought you were leaving on your way to toutsville? Just keep in mind that when you actually sell picks (and I can't believe anyone would buy yours), you can't change your system daily and wipe the slate clean every week.

As for UConn, pretty bad, but the reality is it occurs everywhere. The NCAA needs to crackdown on coaches, not programs. Sure, we all loved Eddie Sutton at the end of his career at Ok. State (before SF) but he is the guy who destroyed KY. The NCAA needs to suspend coaches for major infractions. That is the only solution.

I keep hearing the cop out excuse from UConn fans "it happens everywhere" so once again I present to you the challenge... show me ONE other school that has 15 basketball players arrested in the last 11 years... then I will agree with you "it happens everywhere" Or show me one other play in the country that has earned ZERO credits over their past 2 seasons while playing on SCHOLARSHIP   Then I will agree with you "it happens everywhere"

A bigot In what regards please?  Because I believe for someone to be getting a 100% scholarship to school that they should have to attend classes when possible, and perform at a level above a c-?  Trust me, you don't have to be Albert Einstein to perform above a 2.0  The kid has not passed a single college class in 2 years... yet plays for the college team?  Why should they even bother going to class?

Yeah definitely, I have a had a full scholarship one of the first things to do on my checklist would be steal laptops from dorm rooms and try to sell them off in pawn shops.  I mean I grew up in the hood so definitely when everything is 100% provided for me I still need to steal some laptops just to get a rush

Tagsrock... Just so you know I was in a lot of classes with football players at UConn.  They would show up for the first class of the semester... the midterm... and the final... and they all managed to pass the class by NCAA standards... like I said they don't have to be brilliant... they have to do the BARE minimum.

Why should the players even have to enroll in class by your standards?  Stanley Robinson has not passed one class in 2 years... but is playing for UConn.  Why should they even take SAT's?  They should just play basketball and hang out the rest of the day... they don't even have to attend the school...

Lacrosse   I said a basketball team   And Lacrosse isin't even a real sport

Like I said before, if you don't think this happens everywhere, you are being naive. I have pretty strong connections to KU and that program is squeaky clean, but ask any student about the bball players and the books and they will have stories to tell.
