This thread is absolutely classic. I like the information because stories like these are pretty fun to read, and very interesting and you can sit back and just have your mind blown away.
HOWEVER...........
Granted UConn is now the team of scrutiny everybody is digging a little deeper into things at this program. Granted they have done some fucked up things, but if for a single minute, in your sports breathing life that you dont think this is happening at 99% of the MAJOR PROGRAMS you are a complete idiot. From the Big East to the ACC to Conference USA this happens EVERYWHERE.
The simple fact is that these major programs are looked at like a business. They make money for the schools and thats why they turn the other way when allagations come about. "WE MAKE THIS UNIVERSITY 12 MILLION DOLLARS" the sad part is it is even more then that when you add in merchandise etc. This should be pretty clear when Boosters come together to forge more dollars to keep coaches like Calipari etc.
We have teams like Memphis, don't get me wrong Calipari recruits like no other. It helps that the main FEDEX hub is tennessee and all the kids get jobs there where they work 10-20 hours a week and can make up to 6 figures a year. We saw the same thing with Oklahoma football a few years back working at a car dealorship.
In terms of grades and going to school, it is very, very rare you see these top notch players graduate. Of course there are exceptions of great players like Ty Hansbrough who decided to stay all 4 years and get an education etc. Seriously, that is a rare occasion. I'm a Syracuse fan and I can tell you right now that 4 of the senior walk ons that graduated this year will be ALL graduating on time and with higher then 3.9 GPAs. This is another tactic that these schools use so they can say "OUR PLAYERS GRADUATED X % OF PLAYERS, and OUR TEAM GPA IS THIS...." Trust me there were about 3,000 better walk ons but the key to being a walk on is you have to have damn good grades so you can help the team in someway.
I've played at the college level (I won't divulge so dont ask) but for two pretty big conferences starting in the SEC and then ending in the SUN BELT. I have played in SEC championship games, NIT games, and I have won conference championships at both my schools. Made NCAA tournament appearances and I will be the first to tell you wether you are the #1 player on the team or the #12 guy on the bench you are getting benefits for being on the team. Student so called "housing and living expenses" with checks for large sums 3 times a year for each semester and then summer session. TRUST ME THIS GOES ON AT ALL SCHOOLS IN EVERY SPORT from Florida Gator Football to North Carolina Womens Soccer.
I realize a lot of you guys are fans of Uconn and fans of the big east, or you guys love the ACC and are Duke fans etc. W/E it maybe this is happening at your school, so don't be so blind and hate. The bottom line is whenever these so called allegations happen, they happen because people decide to want to do their job once a year and dig up dirt. If they wanted to dig up dirt they could do it for every school and every program. I had a this chat in one of PIMPS threads about the FSU football team and the online cheating scandal. It is an aboslute joke that they are doing this to this football program. With these schools offering ONLINE CLASSES, whether its the football team or not you have to be dumb to think that kids aren't meeting up in dorms, apartments etc to be taking tests 4-5 kids at a time whether they are on major sports teams or are just regular students. Cheating with online classes happens country wide from Athletes to Non-Athletes and its a fucking joke what their doing to FSU.
Great article about Uconn stuff like that is great to read. Just take it with a grain of salt and understand that all these major programs are virtual coorporate america and are bringing in UNREAL funds to these schools. If it wasnt the case they would be fielding teams with 12 walk ons who all graduate on time with 4.0 GPAs. It's just like anything in this world, MONEY TALKS and is the root of all evil. For every NCAA slap on the wrist that may come about once every 10 years, these schools will continue to do it. The NCAA will never crack down as much as they should/could, because they too are out for that almighty dollars. If they dont have the top teir programs playing the big time games hence North Carolina, Uconn, Villanova, Michigan State playing in the final 4 and we had Western Kentucky, Bradley, Wyoming, and Cal Berkley in the final 4 this weekened what kind of turnout do you think we would have
At the end of the day its all about
