I agree, it's not the best move financially. What happens if you has a career ending injury in college? He's not obviously concerned about the money issue...If that was me, the second the bowl game was done, I'd make myself elibible for the NFL...but then again it's his life....
he will be HEAVILY insured.....career ending is the criteria though I believe...worry would be an injury that enables him to keep playing....but limits what he can do (a serious arm /shoulder injury)
The impediment to action advances action - what stands in the way becomes the way.

nothing dumb about his decision at all. he signed up to go to college and he wants to finish college. only dumb people would think he made a wrong decision.
If the NCAA, NFL, NBA, MLB would all require players to have finished college with a degree before they can be drafted to play ball, this would not even have been an issue. We need more educated and intelligent people.

Why don't you ask Sam Bradford how that worked out
1. Sam Bradford was not this highly regarded.
2. Sam Bradford was not facing a rookie wage cap.
Sam Bradford was highly regarded or else he wouldn't have went first overall.
Why is this such a big deal to you? Did you have money riding on him being the first overall pick? You're very passionate about your stance.
A Stanford education is worth a lot more than $30 million to some people. People with other objectives in life. You bring up finishing his education over the next couple of summers. How unrealistic is that? If he declared and went to the draft, made his millions, how likely is it that while in training camp that he will also take courses at Stanford, online or not? He's finishing up his education at a prime age as to where he won't have to worry about it in the future. The money at the top of the draft will always be there for someone to live a very, very comfortable life and if he's as legit as he looks then he'll earn that second contract that will topple his rookie one. Thus, leaving him with all the money he needsand the satisfaction of a Stanford degree. Not many people can say that.

Um, I never said he wasn't "highly regarded"

Er, Claussen is doing it. So is this guy.
I apologize. You said "this highly regarded." Remind me again, how much more highly regarded you can get than the number one overall pick?
Unrealistic may have been the wrong word choice. Unconventional, inconvenient, anything along those lines.
I'm baffled to see someone bashing the kid for staying at Stanford to get his degree. Doesn't surprise me that it comes from someone that says college is overrated. I may have missed it, where did you get your college degree from?

Whats the consensus on how much $ Jake Locker missed out on?
He must be having a different college experience than I had because I loved LSU but would have left for $35 mil. in a second. He seems like a dork but is head man on campus because of his success on the team. He should understand that $ and the NFL will do the exact same thing.
