Sam Bradford, being the measuring stick, was a higher prospect as he won the Heisman and played in the title game.
Bradford, just like Luck, opted to stay after their sophmore year and play college as a jr. Who is the last great NFL QB that came out as a Soph??? Also if Bradford wasn't as highly regarded how is it that when he went back to school and got hurt he was still the #1 pick?
I don't discredit your degrees and education, but the college experience is more than hitting the books. Its about getting box and smoking weed and shit like that. (ask Masoli).
As far as Jake Locker....I think he's going to play baseball anyway just like Russ Wilson andParker at Clemson maybe Colin Kapernick too.
Who is gonna surpass Luck to be #1 in 2012?

I'm baffled to see someone bashing the kid for staying at Stanford to get his degree
Dude: He doesn't have to forgo the NFL to get his degree. You can grasp that simple point, right?
Remind me again, how much more highly regarded you can get than the number one overall pick?
Ever heard of endorsement money? Who do you think would have made more endorsements in 2011, Sam Bradford or Andrew Luck?
The money at the top of the draft will always be there for someone to
live a very, very comfortable life and if he's as legit as he looks then
he'll earn that second contract that will topple his rookie one.
Like David Carr did? JaMarcus is out of the NFL. Alex Smith was a #1 pick and so was Tim Couch.
Leaving this much $ on the table is idiotic.

There are a lot of mistakes being made in this thread.
1. Words like "dumb" have no place in the discussion. There are reasons for making every decision a human makes throughout there life and you don't know why he wants to stay for another year. If he came out and said "I want to stay in school to make more money" then yea its dumb because he will never be worth more and can only be worth less with the rooke pay scale.
2. A Stanford education is not worth more to ANYONE than $30 million dollars. Unless he is going to get his degree and go work for 50k a year somewhere afterwards this decision makes no economic or career sense.

I kind of doubt Luck smokes weed. I get your point, the question is, is having that type of fun on campus for just over another year worth $30 million?
Jake Locker....I think he's going to play baseball anyway
Yup.
But had he come out, would he have been selected #1 over Bradford???

Really baffeled at his decision. You can't get any higher than #1. No guarantee he'll have the same type of season or hype even with his talent. If he doesn't want to play for Carolina, he can pull the Elway and Eli ploy and say he won't sign if drafted and force a trade.

Side note...Does anyone remember Willis McGahee run out of Buffalo for bashing the city and the people who live in it?
Silently the same thought can be had about living in North Cali vs Carolina, Clevland, Buffalo (again) and even DC. The lone exception I will take is Denver.

Locker isn't playing baseball professionally. Where are you getting this information? He'll be drafted for sure. I will guarantee he won't ever step into a clubhouse on any level, minors or majors, after April.
I didn't mean a Stanford education is worth more in a monetary sense to some people. The world has been corrupted by money to the point where people think everything is about it. People still do have values.

Locker certainly had a lot of buzz and a better year than this year.
Though it likely would have never happened, but here is a reference to how some viewed Locker at the start of 2010.
No doubt, Locker reminds me of Phillip Rivers. Sure it's premature, but he's got that leadership ability and the fiery drive to carry his team. The guy is a fierce competitor and won more with very little talent.

Well in somewhat of a related news, Ryan Mallet is going pro. Can't say I blame here. Imagine having to relive his senior year throwing to those same clowns again.

With Luck staying back, I would not be one bit surprise if Harbaugh stays for one last dance as well. If so, watch out for Stanford and Oregon next fall.

Locker was drafted by the Angels last year. It seems he has a bit of an uncertain future with baseball too.
His future isn't as uncertain in football as you may think. He's a top ten pick in my opinion now that Luck is staying. The demand for QBs this year is much higher than year's past.
I will go as far and wager with you that he will be a first round pick and start at least five games in the NFL. Jake Locker, that is.

I respect a man who wants to finish college at a great school and get his degree. if Luck were to sign and go to the nfl and suffer a career ending injury in year 1 ...then what would he have to fall back on? good choice, if he's that good the NFL will still be calling him this time next year

That college box is much better than the NFL groupie box. You can pull a "hit and run" in college while the NFL groupies are professional gold diggers. Good move if he's financially set.

LottaDinero, no doubt Locker will be drafted, but he's had some crappy games this year. In the 1st game vs Nebraska he was held to just four completions and 71 passing yards on 20 pass attempts.
His stock has fallen, but he did make a decent showing in the bowl game.
