At the risk of sounding like a cheerleader, thank you for the write up on the Illini ... I had no idea but, you're right, I'll be paying a lot more attention to them this year. Also, don't know casheasy immediately above but he/she is correct (and I know you agree): Mike Leach is a great coach.... Wazzou will outperform while he is there ....
UCLA is also a good team this year to play every week - standard ( or half) bet all year long -- I guarantee they will be above .500 ATS when its all over; very good recruited talent, new coach (enthusiasm); jaded public/perception.... They will cover more than they won't .....

First off, BOOM my bad for any negative comments i made toward u, sometimes i drink and like talking shit...
Second, gwjtf, u really have to pick ur spots with ucla, this is the softest team year in and year out i have ever seen...
Thirdly, how do u know they will be good, im in southern cal, know the program very well, this team wont be ready til mid season if that!
and if they cover vs RICE its because Rice layed down and not anything else...

Purdue - Guys I like Purdue. I think there is a ton of good things that can be said about Purdue this year. But I keep coming back to one thing, Danny Hope. I just can't understand how or why guys like this are coaching at the D1 level. It really is mind boggling. I know it sounds like I have a personal agenda against some of these guys, but I really dont. I just want to know who are the clowns out there making the decisions hiring guys like this. Danny Hope is a idiot. have any of you guys ever heard this guy speak? About anything? Wow. One more thing, you want to know what separates teams in college football? Coaching and recruiting, I will leave it at that. This years team has some good pieces to it. Im not crazy about the QB situation right now but if I were Hope I would really try to get Rob Henry back 100%. He is the only guy that looked like a winner to me. I also hope Bolden can come back strong but if not they do have a few guys that look promising in the back field. I really like the OL and think if they can come together this running game could be one of the best in the BIG 10. Defensively there is a bunch of " guys " none really outstanding but alot with experience. The secondary is the best of the bunch if you ask me and should be one of the better secondary's in the conference. The schedule is a typical soft OOC schedule and really they have only 3 hard road games in Ohio st, Iowa and Illinois. All in which will be hard for these guys to win. I like this schedule and think 6 possibly 7 wins a serious possibility. They will be good enough to go bowling if your thinking about playing a over under on this teams season wins total.

QBOption - I'm in socal too and went to a couple of spring practices - was impressed with the tempo and the talent - they were all business too, markedly different than Neuheisal practices which I also attended and it was almost like going to my son's day camp. Bruins have good talent - 3 top 10 classes of the last 5; 4 top 20 classes of the last 5. They need a coach that won't let them get away with being soft, as you say and you're right about that. I don't think Mora will tolerate it - in fact I know he won't - and if they can get just decent, consistent QB production - something they haven't had since Drew Olson, they'll win more ballgames than a lot of people think I believe...:)

Boom, if there is a team I have no respect for it is Wiscy, they have these 7 foot 370 lbs monsters on the o-line and they are perenial underacheivers Year in Year out, Year in Year out.
I cant begin to tell you how many times Iv capped a matchup that showed me Wiscy would destroy the oppenant by 40 ony to squeek out a win.
They are, have been and in my opinion always will be the biggest underacheivers in NCAA history.
I now choose my spots against them, never for them.

arguments can be made against Wisconsin and I understand that... But these guys are a little better then your giving them credit for. They just went to back to back rose bowls.
The one huge thing that needs to pointed out is the schedule. They have a very favorable schedule this year.
I think if Danny Obrien plays to his potential...Wisconsin could run the table.

Penn S.T - Let me first start off by saying this. I dont want any discussion about the recent things from Penn s.t in this thread. This is my breakdown thread and I would rather not talk about that shit in this thread, OK? Penn S.T moves on from a time where none of us on this board remember a time where "new" direction was at Penn st. Think about that. If Penn S.T had to hit a home run with a new coach I think they hit a grand slam with this guy, Bill O'Brien. I love the way he has handled himself so far and the fact that he has been all business. When I look at this team I do see the same problems I seen last year, but this team doesn't have the same caliber defense it had. So actually, there worse. Unless O'Brien can work his magic on these QB's then the biggest problem that has loomed them will once again be their biggest problem. They do have a great back in Silas Redd. The guy is a work horse who can carry the load, and this team will need him to do just that. Defensively there is a huge drop off. I really liked this unit last season, but this years group just doesn't have the returning experience it had. The depth is there, but just not the experience. I think the first game could be a game that they could be on upset alert. Remember I told you. Ohio will take these guys to the 4th quarter. Then I think they lose the following week to Virginia in Charlottesville. Navy will be no gimme and @ Illinois @ Iowa and home to Ohio S.T. Then @ Nebraska and home to Wisconsin in the finally will ALL be hard games fro Penn s.t to win. I really think 6-6 would be considered a success for this team. I know that some may dis agree with this assessment, but the truth is the culture needs to change in Pennsylvania first. The best is yet to come for Bill O'Brien and I believe that he is the guy to do it. But they will need some time. Just be patient Penn s.t fans.

Indiana - Where really to start? Or better yet, what can I say? Indiana has really struggled for a very long time and I just dont know what these guys can do to change. Usually I have a pretty good feel about a program along with the coaches and players and what they should do to progress. This team is much like Duke IMO. Actually Duke would wipe the floor with these guys. Kevin Wilson, I dont want to give a unfair assessment to this guy cause I really dont know what he is capable of. I do know this and understand that this statement goes for every coach in the country. Im not sure how coaches can succeed at places like this. Dont give me this BS like Nick Saban could, BS. If that is so true then why has coaches like Saban only coached at places like Bama and LSU? We know what happens when he had a challenge in front of him, Michigan S.T, Miami, does that ring a bell? My point to all this is not to talk bad about Saban, it's to point out that coaching is a tough gig and sometimes we need to let these guys " grow " into there positions. Nobody can say whether Kevin Wilson will succeed or not in Indiana, only time will tell. Only a hand full of coaches can take programs like this and really turn things around. Bill Snyder comes to mind. Why? Because he proved he could do it. When I had my top overall coaches in the country thread a few years ago I put Snyder in front coaches like Saban and Meyer. Why? Because he proved what the word coaching was all about. He didn't walk into Alabama and win a national championship, he walked into Manhattan Kansas where there was NO football history. So in short, why do I talk about coaching so much in my breakdowns? Because it means the most to any program, especially the ones like Indiana. I dont know why I went on this long rant about coaching in this Indiana breakdown, but I guess it really does relate to who Indiana is. Look im not gonna give a long list of shit to persuade you to bet either for or against Indiana. I'm just telling you this team is bad. I think they are better then last years team, but how much? Good luck Indiana.

Michigan - Last year in my breakdown I told you guys that Michigan found their man. You guys said Michigan cant play defense, I said guys, Listen to me, Michigan has found their man. Brady Hoke is the real deal guys. If you dont believe me go to the recruiting boards and look at what he is doing, incredible. Like him, love him or hate him Denard Robinson is going to be a huge threat. The guy has superb world class quickness and elusiveness. Notice I just didn't point out speed, which he has. But there is a difference between just pure speed and guys who can put your defense on ESPN not top 10 list. I like the back field and and the OL. I do think that Hoke needs to recruit more beef for that OL because of the offense he likes to run, but for now there pretty good. Defensively there getting much better. I like the secondary and think they have potential and the DL has improved dramatically, actually the depth has improved. But really I could talk all day about Michigan, but what everyone wants to hear is how do these guys stack up vs Alabama. The truth is. Pretty good. I know I might get slammed for this but, If can get DD points for this game I will be on the Michigan Wolverines. It's a game that means so much for the program and what better time to get Alabama hen to get them a little vulnerable. Alabama will be great, but a little experienced IMO overall to begin with. I know that alot will disagree with that but Im from the school of if you lose almost all your best players, you will need time to adjust. So yes, Michigan will have a shot in this game. @ N.D @ Purdue ( witch is a real trap game ) @ Nebraska and @ Ohio S.T will prove to be hard football games. All in all I think the ceiling is high for this team. If they play as well I think they can, then they will win their division and play Wisconsin in the Big ten Championship.

Indiana could have trouble winning at UMASS this year. You'd figure Indy will give them 12 to 16 points. This should be one of those "Biggest games in the history of the program" for MASS.
Anybody live in that area and consider UMASS the home team?
My sense is that they don't consider UCONN a rival. If I'm reading that wrong let me know...you'd think they'd have some kind of New England rivalry or something. The players didn't sound amped up to play at CT in game 1. (Even though the UCONN campus is closer to UMASS than the "home games"...which are on the other side of the state.) For now, I believe the team considers week 2 vs Indy more important than week 1 at CT.
If for no other reason, you have to bet UMASS just because of the rule of thumb that Indy shouldn't be a double-digit fave over anybody.

Tough to go against Alabama...I was in their corner but moved to the Michigan side...
My questions:
1. Will Alabama pressure Denard or will they play safe and keep him in front of them...? I think they play it safe. The point was brought up earlier about Denard's speed. I think Bama will back off and wait for the mistake. Robinson will be able to make plays and move the ball.
2. Will Bama get that game-changing INT? Can Denard be patient an entire game and take what the D gives him? Will he get fooled into tossing that INT to one of the safties? I think the 4th quarter will be spent just holding our breath for that INT that puts Bama over the spread...not sure if it comes. Saban's scheme really gets the DB's in the right place for INT's but Robinson's been studying that defense all off-season. But if the INT comes, you know all the UM frat boys will have the "I was MOOSED!" and "Biggest MOOSE of the century!!" threads up.
The gut says to play Michigan. It's the same gut that has let me down the past couple seasons.

True. They're going for home state advantage instead of home field. Now they need people in the state to care about the team...
It just occurred to me...I'm wondering how many of the kids were recruited from that area? That's where most of the population is in that state...the eastern part. It would make them play harder if they were in front of friends and family that never make it out to Umass.
I'm thinking about that because of the USC vs Syracuse game in Yankee Stadium this year. Almost 30% of the Syr roster is from Eastern NY, Long Island, and NYC. A few more are from New Jersey so their family will also be closer and get to watch. A large number of Syr kids consider NYC a home game more than The Carrier Dome.

Bama is breaking in a lot of new starters and even thought there very talented it will take them a few games. Bama will win Mich has a great chance of covering

I just don't see how UM stops Bama. UM's replacing 3/4 of its DL and its two best players on D that happened to play on the line. Bama and its 4/5 OL (which people have been saying could be Saban's best OL) returning might run for 300 yards.. and also like that the QB's back...
And to answer your questions above..
1. Will Alabama pressure Denard or will they play safe and keep him in front of them...? All they need to do is look at MSU's gameplan in how to shut down Denard. Pressure/blitz him from multiple angles, esp up the middle, but don't lose outside contain, esp. on the backside and he will fold.
2. Will Bama get that game-changing INT? Considering UM is replacing 2 on the OL including AA Center (which is a huge spot in my book) and lost its #1 WR and safety blanket on those pop flys- I'd be surprised if Denard throws under 2 INTs
With all that said, it's almost a certainty that Denard or Fitz breaks a long run or two
Think something like 31-14 seems about right.. It's a no play for me unless the line drops to something insane like 7, but wouldn't feel comfortably with UM unless I was getting at least 17
