Baylor - Art Briles is a genius. I have been saying it for years and now the world is starting to see. Look you don't win at Baylor, it's in the college football handbook. Not really, but you get it. They lose some pieces to last years team but I still like this team for alot of reasons. The coach, the offense, the attitude and the refreshing feeling the players have and the fan base does about the program. The offense is unique in alot of ways. The just dont spread you out. the spread you out like no other team. If you watch them they actually spread there receivers out all the way across the field from end to end. If you don't know what I mean go watch film on traditional spread teams and then watch Baylor, there much different. They attack t he A gab running the ball more then any team in the country. it's dive, dive, dive, QB read and run. The offense is pretty much 4 plays ran several different ways. 1)The Dive 2) The Read 3) The WR screen 4) Verticals deep. Thats it in a nutshell. Ran several different ways. Baylor this year is actually going to be solid on defense. Yes, I said defense. The 4-2-5 they run is a lost art defensively, don't know many other teams that run it other then TCU maybe. But again, understand what league they play in. The Big 12 demands extra help in the passing game. Overall I like this team and think Bryce Petty will do a great job. He brings a more running threat then Nick did and therefor opening up the offense even a little more. The schedule sets up great for this team with a first year starting QB. The first three cupcake games should help this team prepare for the Big 12 conference schedule. I like this group and see a 8-4 type record but no less then a 6-6, 7-5 record.

I guess I will start with Baylor.........

This is a good write-up; I hadn't paid too much attention to the distribution of their base plays, just the results I'll look for Bryce Petty this year and it will be interesting to see how much of a drop off there is at the beginning of year compared to last and how they progress during the season.
I don't believe I've ever seen a team transform from a good squad to a great one in one season like Baylor did last year. Regardless of their record, by the end of the year they were playing top 10, maybe even top 5 team football. They thoroughly dominated a very good UCLA team that had just finished playing Stanford to within 3 points on Stanford's home field in the Pac-12 championship. UCLA could have and maybe should have beaten Stanford, and Baylor just owned them in the Holiday Bowl. This will be a fun team to watch in 2013.

come on guys...put the ego's aside. those of us that are serious, do this for fun. let's work together to beat the books. I just wish we could truly tap the brain power to form a syndicate where we could all profit. I am not saying that I am at the caliber of some of you from a capping perspective, but I am a smart guy with a passion for college football, and a strategic and analytical approach to my picks. I hope to reach out to 10 or so of you guys to get your perspectives on my picks each week. the so called "team experts" and consensus on covers are a joke. let's work together and help each other avoid the mine field games, and win and win and win...
I wish the entire Covers.com college football community a relaxing memorial day...

Jealousy... He has issues. I avoid him all together just like most people, but it still hurts the forum when people like him are allowed to post.

I think you might be interestedd in what I think about Penn st this year.
I will do a write up
sounds good, hope all is well with you.
went to spring game, they have some talent there, dont sleep on it. bench was never going to play, no loss at qb. rb lynch and te wilkerson will be players in the not too distant future. te jesse james may be a star. all about the qb because they have skill, no doubt.
good luck this year!

The 4-2-5 they run is a lost art defensively, don't know many other teams that run it other then TCU maybe.
S Caro N Caro Boise Auburn* Ohio St* Duke Toledo Tex St UTSA......plus a few more
*Ellis Johnson now Auburn DC.....Ohio St in 4-2-5 most of spring....Ole Miss moving away from 4-2-5 it seems
others in 4-3 or 3-4.....except for SDSU (Rocky Long).....and Zona (Jeff Casteel)....who run that 3-3-5
BTW..... nice insight on the BU breakdown
Yeah bookie... I know of other teams that run the 4-2-5 but I think you have to look closely at it.
for example, S.C runs a base 4-3 most of the times.... they will float in that " spur " position to create a extra LB/DB... But they really run the 4-3 they just seem to show a lot of nickle formations.
But as far as living and dying on the 4-2-5....Baylor and TCU stay in it most of the game.

Stanford - Tree. You know, the crazy looking tree that's always dancing around that kind of looks like a Christmas tree.....yeah that tree. I would say there pretty good. Very Good actually. This season will be no different. I love the fact that Stanford lines up and will not change their game for anyone. I think the coaching staff led by David Shaw is among the elite. Now it does help that you have some of the smartest kids in the country listening to you when you are talking. But nevertheless, this is a good group. I'm not sold completely on Kevin Hogan but I think he " fits " if you know what I mean. The guy brings that toughness that Stanford brings with them everywhere they go. The OL is good yet once again only replacing the center I believe, but there is a few holes in this offense that needs to be addressed. The Receivers? Yeah, name me a few. go ahead.... I'm Listening. What about the stable of TE's? Gone! I'm very interested in seeing if Barry Sanders jr will step in and get some playing time. Defensively this group rivals the best in the country. Very solid on all 3 levels of the defense especially up front. I'm not in love with this offense like I said, but hell, This is Stanford. They will figure a way. The coaches are too smart not to, the players are too tough not to. I love the chemistry of this team and IMO they are the front runners along with Oregon to win the PAC 12 again. The schedule is pretty good if you ask me. @ Utah, @ Oregon st, and @ USC are the only tough games they have. 10 - 2 with potential to run the table is what I see. But as I said, all of this will depend on the development of the Offense and Hogan.
Next up??? Who??

I don't do much usually until the preview mags come out...
*using Steele's staff of 10-15 to do the work for me.
By then I have established the TRUE identity of each team last year (legit or fraud?)...then simply factoring in the changes
*IMO...deciding how good/bad a team really was last year is the key part....(overlooked by most)
BUT....gun to the head (GTTH)....I would consider
$$$ ULM +23 OU with WV on deck...ULM QB +7/9 starters (same team that beat Ark...lost to Auburn in OT...and lost by 5 to a very good Baylor)
FAU +31 Miami 4 starters back from terrible D and Gators on deck....FAU much improved late LY
Ole Miss ML Rebels the better team and should win here
TT -2 SMU only 5/5 starters and on decline...TT offense fine / D much better
$$ UAB +6 tough rivalry game....UAB much better under that Garrick McGee (sharp)....Troy tough at home but just 3/2 st (over maybe better)
TCU +5' Frog D should match up well here...LSU lost too much on D
Clem -1 Georgia with SCaro on deck.....Clemson should simply outscore Ga....Clem D much better....Dawg D much worse
Purdue +14 Cinn takes a step back under that Tommy Toooberville?....that D Hazell likes dog role and should have Boilers ready here...
BOOM.....info for 99% of other posters....but...you kinda have to refer to a team's BASE D though...even though they might be in something else most of the time...
eg. The 3-4 most identifiable with Saban / Bama....but recently they use a 4-3 look even more....> (gotta call them a 3-4 team)
LSU no doubt a 4-3 team (Miami style attacking front 4)...but seem to prefer a 4-2-5 as of late.....
But yeah most of these are simply a nickel package (just adding a DB)....while TCU and others use a hybrid / rover type as the 5th DB
*interesting that S. Carolina's 1st 2 SPURS are like 180 and 180 lbs. ...................
The impediment to action advances action - what stands in the way becomes the way.

As long as we have fans who bled their teams colors here.
As long as we have stalkers here.
As long as we have morons who say guys like John Elway are overrated.
It will never be a great forum, In other words, you will have to sift thru the garbage and trash to find good quality football chatter.
