I really hate to jump on the Texas Bandwagon, but I think this is gonna be a pretty good team this year. But I will say this. My MONEY is on TCU. I think that Texas is loaded but the TCU Horned Frogs are better. Why? Scheduling, and it does most of the time in College football. Look at Georgia the last few years. There is NO way they were the best of the East, but as scheduling had it, they were. It's as simple as this. TCU gets Texas at home and I think that's the difference. If you are looking for a long shot. Or not really a long shot, I say look at Baylor. This Baylor  " program " is up and coming and if you can't see it it's because you choose not too. Seastrunk and Martin is IMO one of the best one two punches in the country. I love what Briles is doing in Waco. The biggest drop off has to be Oklahoma. Im not sold on this Blake Bell as the full time QB deal. Unless major things have changed I think Oklahoma will struggle on offense some what, or I should say there not gonna score at the rate were used to seeing them.

Now let's all take a minute and worship Snyder. Ok, were good now. Look, Snyder has no talent and he lost the entire defense almost. Does it matter? Yeah, a little. I still think he will devise a scheme to " win " football games as he has done forever now. I don't need to continue on about Snyder, either you get it, or you don't. The fat man in Lawrence is gonna suck again, maybe not as bad as last year. But nevertheless, still suck. Mullet man may pull the rest of it out this season. Guess what you have when you lose all your play makers, QB, and most of the O-line? And oh yeah, you don't give a crap about the other side of the ball?  Guess what happens? Country roads will lead to dirt roads which leads to asskickings and shity bowls. The fighting Mike Gundy's will once again be good. I think this guy is a very underrated coach. the thing about Oklahoma st this year is that they will be good on defense. I know it's hard to believe, but it's true. Yeah, wow. I guess Kingsbury is here to save the day. I think he is a major upgrade over that loser that was there named Tubberville. But overall I think you will see more life in the program now that life is actually there to see, if that makes sense. Iowa st, yeah..... whatever.

how about breakdowns on Notre Dame and Texas A&M. Looks like these teams could be fade material this year. Your thoughts?

thanks for the love Boom...I think the talent is there.  and I think Mack is motivated to prove his doubters wrong...even with OU down a bit this year, it is going to take absolutely focus for Texas to win the RRR this year.   I like our chances against TCU, KSU, and Ok St.     Baylor D will be better, but only incrementally.   Lache can be contained.   I think Texas 3 Backs in Gray, Brown, and Bergeron that are as good as if not better than Seaststrunk.     Baylor's QB is the big ?   

With that being said, if Texas can somehow win them all and play for the BCS NC, I still say Bama would beat us by at least 10 points...

I will be watching Clemson closely.  I have that week 5 game at home against WF marked as one of my favorites Prima Facie right now.  GLTA

See.. I think Gary Patterson and TCU right now is just better then Texas and Mac Brown. I like texas backs... But I would take Seastrunk and Martin over your guys. I really like Baylor's skill guys.

I don't think there are any dominate teams in the Big 12 this year. Texas would have to improve significantly on defense to make me a believer this year.I would be very surprised if the winner of this conference had less than two conference losses. The winner of the Big 12 could come down to a tie-breaker and who has the best non-conference schedule and won those games to give them the higher BCS ranking. Texas, TCU and OU are close. Texas probably has the best chance at defeating their two non conference opponents. But that's no gimme  either.

texas will be 12 and 0 at best and 11 and 1 at worst...I only see a potential loss to either ok st or ok, and that's it...

 

Texas hasn't been anywhere close to a dominant team for the last 3 years. I need to see much more consistency out of Ash. We are also talking about a defense that gave up 36, 42, 48, 50 & 63 points in 5 of their games last season. I don't see the Horns giving up that many points one season and suddenly becoming an undefeated top 5 team the next. The big argument here is Texas has the personnel to be a national title contender. On that I would have to agree. But they've also had this same kind of personnel for the last 3 years. But are only 23-16 during that period. I admit that Texas has just as good of a chance as anybody else to win the Big 12 this year. Mainly because they have a very doable conference schedule. But the only team I saw them dominate in the Big 12 last year was Iowa State at home. Every other game was close. And they got blew out  by OU and KSU. Two teams they haven't beaten in 3 and 5 years. In all due respect to Phil Steele and the posters who like Texas here, they've got to show me the money before I start betting on this team. Especially the coaching staff who got badly outcoached in several games last season. To me, the only two teams who look like they have the most upside potential to improve are TCU and OSU. I like Briles and Baylor. They could be a tad undervalued this year and will probably ruin somebody's season, but I think they are a notch below the best in the Big 12, and are also starting a new unproven QB with zero starts.

Boom - you keep teasing with the B10 write-up....where in the Sam HIll is it!?  I'm particularly interested in Wisconsin - I think they got a good coach in Gary Anderson and they return a lot of good experience - will be interesting to see if they pick up where they left off with Monte Ball's departure. Wisconsin unquestionably was playing much better at the end of last year than their 8/5 record would indicate - do they step back or step forward? ...

First off, great to see you post RLP, always one of my favorite posters. Yes you read my mind. I look at scheduling and the most important position one the field, QB. Im very high on TCU because of Pachall.... will he return as good as he was before the suspension? I think so and that's why Im putting alot of stock into TCU. Returning starters is always a HUGE deal IMO as well.... were definitely on the same page.

As far as the first year Starters in the BIG 12 go, I do like Baylor's position tho. Love the system and the coach and that's why I have a lot of faith in them.

I agree about the turnaround a team can make from one year to the next. I saw the 2000 OU team go from 7-6 and giving up a lot of points in Stoops first year in 1999 to national champs and the best defense in the country the next. So you are right, it could possibly happen with Texas. The reason I'm a little pessimistic though is Manny Diaz. Or as OU fans like to call him _iaz because he can't coach D. I'm just a little leery of somebody who comes in for his first season and inhereits a good defense from Muschamp, has a decent first season, and then completely falls off the earth in his second year. Some of this can be blamed on injuries. But all of it? I have my doubts. Texas has been using the "we were too young" excuse for the last 3 years now. It's time they bucked up and played to their talents. If they don't do it this season, then I think Mack is probably gone.

Whats up Boom!!! Been awhile since I've read any of your stuff. I like what you had to say on several occasions and I think you are right on with your reply with longhorns question. I do however think that Vandy has as good a season this year as last. They have a lot of talent coming back and I think with the momentum from last season that carries over this year. I'm curious to know of the teams you feel could have a surprise impact this season? My one team is Louisville BOL this season
