i read all the trendy ats stats regarding this game.
its just that something dont sit right knowing that cal is a DD fave vs. a team that beat them last year.
last year cal was DD fave vs. 2 acc team MD and MIA and failed to cover both. everybody was on cal -10 vs mia.
looks like cal has trouble with acc teams.
will things change ay home?maybe...
is cal over-hyped coming into 2009? steele has cal @ #10 in his powerpoll!
If u had a million $'s would u bet Cal -13 vs. MD?
Personally, I don't see much value in that line. (and not everyone was on Cal over the Canes. Sitting on my West Coast perch, I foresaw problems for my Brothers from Berkeley). I also tried like hell to warn everyone on Covers off the Maryland game.
13 looks about right to me this year. I'll be looking other places for betting and watching this one for fun.

whodey, placin, jmw, veritas, etc - looking forward to another season and good to see plenty of familiar names, season can't get here soon enough, at least should be getting some numbers from BM and greek numbers in 3-4 weeks
bigdaddy - surprising some matched exactly, pretty fair numbers they put up on the early games with a couple exceptions
since many discussiin Nev-ND, thoughts are Nevada pass defense not that bad % completion wise (even holding Tex Tech to 19-46-2) however YPP is high so guess is ND will make some big plays even moving it consistently, ND probably good for 30-40 so comes down to ND run defense vs strong rushing game as whether pack can hang around and since ND gave up 150+ rushing yds in 8 games last year, Nevada should have at least some success moving the ball maybe getting 20-30 pts, probably will pass on that game unless total 55 or less could be possible - pretty unlikely total is that low though probably more like 58-60

corley - yeah pretty tough call I would think - hard to lay much chalk with ND team that only had two wins by more than 18 (Hawaii and Wash), on the other hand ND should be improved and Nevada not a great road team and capable of giving up big plays

can't believe i just found this thread... at first glance your lines look very close to mine...
first discrepancy i notice is with ND vs Nevada... (-10)? really? man, i was thinking more like (-4)... i expect Nevada to give some teams trouble this year...
hadn't figured on betting that one, but if it's (-10) i would probably have to take Nevada...
gonna take a closer look...

ice - agree Cal definitely won't be sleeping this year
one other note if you hadn't already seen on another thread, golden nugget released a few week 1 numbers as part of GOY matchups, most were pretty close other than Nev-ND, seems fishy that ND was -2 at Hawaii (Nevada was -3.5 at Hawaii few weeks earlier) and now ND is -17
Boise St. -4 vs Oregon
Okie State -3 vs Georgia
Illinois -2 1.2 vs Mizzou (now up to-5)
'Bama -4 vs Va. Tech
Colorado -13 vs Colorado State.
OU -21 vs BYU
LSU -16 at Washington (now down to -14)
Notre Dame -17 vs Nevada
Mississippi -17 at Memphis
Florida St. -3 vs Miami.

That Illinois -5 still looks pretty good to me, I'll take Tech getting points. My favorite has to be Oklahoma St -3. I think Okie St thrashes Georgia. Georgia is going to have a rough start in my opinion. Okie St 31 - Georgia 17 Good luck this year Nos, I'll be around for the season
i really like all 3 of those...
Tech shouldn't be a dog against Bama... and Okie St is gonna put an ass-whoopin' on Georgia... two teams playing with completely different expectations this year, and OSU is usually good out of the gate...

The ND line has to do with more of the money placed on them every year. Remember, a couple of yrs ago, the Irish opened as small favs vs. GT. If they made ND favs of under 7pts they might get killed. I think it would have to be b/t 10-14pts no matter what.
