COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The Missouri Tigers suspended junior quarterback Maty Mauk for the rest of the season for disciplinary reasons, just six days after reinstating him.
Coach Gary Pinkel on Sunday declined to specify the circumstances of Mauk's second suspension, but said that his status will be evaluated at the end of the season. The first suspension was for a violation of program policies.
"We don't overlook things. We don't cover things up. We
do what's right," Pinkel said. "A lot of other places would find ways to
get the problem solved without doing what we do, but we don't do that
at Missouri. I've never done that, I never will.
"All my players trust me that I don't ever talk about disciplinary issues, since the day I got here."
The Tigers (4-4) host 24th-ranked Mississippi State (6-2) in an ESPN game on Thursday night.
Freshman Drew Lock has made four starts since Mauk was first suspended. Missouri hasn't scored a touchdown the past three games, totaling 12 points.
Pinkel said he didn't think the Mauk suspension has affected Lock's play.
"I think that they're friends, I don't know that that weighed on him a lot," Pinkel said. "I really didn't think of it in that respect, so I have no idea."
Pinkel agreed with the notion quarterbacks are held to a higher standard.
"There is no question about that," the coach said. "We're going to hand you the keys to the car -- that responsibility is huge. It's a lot of pressure, especially nowadays more than ever."
He hoped the Mauk suspension wouldn't be too much of a distraction.
"You don't like self-inflicted ones that tap in internally," Pinkel said. "It's just the way it is. You've got to overcome them."

hey Doc - I think Tulsa is a good one; Missed the line below 14 now I have to sit it out. Now Tulsa D is horrible but UCF looks toast right now. I have the fair line around 17. No work on it yet but see no reason to play UCF at first look.

This one caught us by surprise on the open - was even -1 for a while then rocketed up.....It may have opened lower than we thought due to the injury to top RB Dayes in the Clemson game....and the MOB may have got wind of their RT getting suspended for 2 games....In either case....we made this bet assuming Dayes would be a no-go....He has a toe injury that needs to get looked at this wk - apparently HC said he is hopeful it may need just a day or two of rest - but we always assume the worst.....They are a little light on depth at RB but somebody will step up.....Samuels has 6 TD rushing at 7/pop and leads the team in receptions and they will mix and match if necessary....To be honest...They will probably just do what VT did last wk - run enough to keep the D honest because BC has a brick wall run D - but then MATRICULATE in the passing game with their superior athletes IN SPACE......QB Brissett has 13 TD and 1 int does not throw the deep ball as well as the short chuck and duck stuff but the athletes on this offense are going to put pressure on the BC D all game long and will only need to get 17-20 to win this in all likelihood.....scored 35 at Wake off the bye - 41 vs the Clemson D.....They are not going to light it up but should be able to do enough against maybe the worst offense in ACC history.
BC cannot run the ball. Cannot kick FG. Have a bad OL. And have used 3 QBs since the injury to Wade.....Now if you have not had a chance to watch these QBs - I mean like for real - it is just insane what they are playing with no insult to the kids - and BC has a great D - but last wk they used a WALK ON RUDY freshman at QB and while I am reading how tough he is and how much better he is than Flutie Flakes or Jeff Smith.....Really? The only saving grace is that NC ST D is avg at best but even they have held bad offenses in check this year 14 13 17 allowed vs ODU SA and Wake and believe us - this BC offense is on another level of bad. 246 79 and 218 yards offense last 3 games just as a sample - yes against better Ds and they will move the ball at times but at this cheap price had to take a shot. Laying 6-7. No thanks. 2-3ish. Sure. 2 of BCs top 3 RB are also on injury list FWIW.
Final bonus. BC is done. Not bowl eligible. Have 2 wins vs FCS teams and 6 losses so they are toast. Vs FBS teams - have scored 0 17 7 0 17 14 10.
What worries us? Well NC St has been smoked 5 straight games at BC so the Boogey Man Angle is there....These could not be more different circumstance though. Note that NC St broke the Wake jinx this year and are 4-0 L4 ATS as road favs including 3 in a row in fine fashion this year. Another worry - hate the spot. Sandwich between Fla St and Clemson.
Summary. Would play it up to -3 for full sized wager. IF you want to tag along - 1/2 size wager at -3.5 or -4 max. BC D is very very good do not want to get cute. Even tho BC was shutout by Wake at home....It was 3-0 so who knows?
