This is a really strange one....A good example of how MEGALOCKS needs perceived value AND confidence to put the cash down....According to our ratings which may or may not be correct - we make Cal at most a 3 pt fav in this game but it just might be that we have Cal rated too low and Texas too high? So hard to say after just 2 games- especially when Cal looked good but played Grambling St and SD St...The good news for Cal is that Texas offense is probably no better - outgained by Rice 462-277 - and their DEF might not be better WTF....Rice was an unthinkable 15/21 on 3rd downs against Texas but 5 turnovers will kill you most of the time....Heard may be an upgrade at Tex QB? We did not mind playing Texas in spots last yr b/c their D played pretty well most of the time...After looking at their boxscores boy oh boy it could go one of two ways - Texas plays best game - its close - Cal blows them out big time....Cal a bad road fav ATS and Tex a bad home dog ATS but each of those situations rarely come up - at least in the last 10 yrs so just saying not saying just saying....
Summary. Lean Cal at 6.5 or better even tho our ratings say NO to that.

you should make this a no play. everyone should stay away from this game. the predictability is a highly variable. and yes, I am a homer, but this Texas team has talent. if norville can help build confidence, and if the Texas D can step it up, it could go either way. I think a Cal lean against a Texas team home getting points is a very risky wager...

When I say lean - it is just that. A lean. No money down. BUT some people do come in here to get opinions on the games with some rationale behind it - in fact that is really the main point of our threads. So we are just saying IF you like Cal - we can support that but not encouraging anyone to go nuts.
Now we have someone with another reasonable opinion saying something else. We LOVE it. I think it benefits everyone to hear all sides of a particular game.

Probably good advice.

texas is a dumpster fire. Nationally, they are a joke program. Within the state they are behind Texas A&M, TCU, Baylor, and even Houston would beat them right now. Lowly Rice should have but they turned the ball over 5 times.
Stay away, stay far away until they prove they can win a game against a decent team...then maybe the bags of shame can be taken off their heads.

I am not staying away. I have no problem rolling the dice against a perennial Pac 12 doormat that is travelling east.
IMO, the spread is irrelevant. If Cal gets rolling and can score at will they win big...if Texas can stop Cal's offense then they win. No problem taking the ML Texas +220.
Of course, not betting the mortgage on it......

Line looks about right to us. Toledo off a big win at Arkansas but they were outgained significantly had some timely defense and that DL played well vs the run...As we have said like backing Toledo with HC Campbell doing a fine job there and will take the coaching edge vs Rhoads....Iowa St gonna give Toledo their best shot tho - Kansas next - if they win this one - that would surely mean 3-1 and only a few upsets to make a bowl game - and I mean just a small shot - they lose and we give them no shot - so say what you want Iowa St will be ready - even off the loss to Iowa....Iowa St won this game 37-30 LY at home.....Pretty much will never take a med price dog if we feel they have no shot of running and guess what- do not think they have any shot of running on Toledo so QB has to do it himself and D needs some turnovers.
Summary - no leanage.mega

I'm gonna have to play over the 70.5 in Ark/Tech contest......Hogs might be really pissed and score 50 on the ground. Tech's offense should be good for 30-35 against a good, but not great defense.

Been thinking of a way to play Texas without being really worried about that Cal offense. My PR's have the line Cal 3 so i see value in Texas but can't pull the trigger.
UNTIL I saw the Texas TT at 24 +100..THAT I will take all day b/c if Cal lights them up for 45 it doesn't matter if the 'Horns go over the TT. I know, Texas is all over ESPN and they suck...but i like the new QB and Cal's D does not scare me.
I like this play a lot and the TT can be a great 'out' vs choosing a side when you just can't convince yourself to get down.
Cal can score...and actually the faster they score, the better...!

Woodshed - I really like that idea ......I would agree that Texas should get 24 vs the Cal D regardless of how many Cal gets....And more importantly - love the concept of taking a look at team totals to look for value
