I don't know what to say really about Ohio State. They have impressed me in their wins against Wisconsin and Alabama. The key here is not about betting on what Oregon can do, they key is determined by what you think Ohio State CAN do.
I feel that OSU can and will move the ball against Oregon's defense. The problem arises on whether the OSU defense can adequately keep Oregon's offense at bay and allow a below average number of points.
I haven't made up my mind yet on whihch side I'm going to take here but I'm looking towards some insightful discussion with you all.
Game day is almost here!

Ohio St is going to run at them & Oregon will have no problem allowing them to do so outside the red zone, much like they played against fsu
Oregon isn't built to shut down an elite offense, they are built to capitalize on an opponents mistakes, wear them down with tempo & outscore them
I continually go back & forth with my lean on this game & I'm presenting finding more reasons to back the Buckeyes
Oregon covers spreads, that's what they do, betting against them takes some stones. They can easily be down 14 points & cover a spread of 7 with a span of 2 turnovers & quick scores, etc
Ohio St is clicking on all cylinders much like Oregon & this figures to be a great game
for now I'm leaning buckeyes & over but I've changed sides 3 times already, I've leaned over from the beginning
I certainly hope Oregon wins the game but Ohio St is not an ideal matchup for them from what I see up to this point (that can change as I get further along though)

this is a good writeup thank you for contributing you bring up some valid points. I think one of the intangibles factors in this game is going to be the quick pace office of Oregon. I think that Ohio State was able to set up defensively against Alabama and stop them quite well in part because they had time in between snaps the problem with Oregon is that Ohio State will not have this amount of time between snaps to prepare and that ultimately could be the demise. In my opinion the only way Ohio State wins this game outright and for that matter covers the spread is all going to come down to Ohio State's defense. They may surprise and they more than likely need to force at least two turnovers but I really find it difficult to believe that the pace of Oregon is going to be slowed down by Ohio State.

It's simple, if the Bucks D hold their own (for the most part, trust me, Oregon will get their points) and play smart, OSU wins this won.Shootout type game.
could be that simple
Jones is more likely to turn it over than Mariota though so that's also gonna be a factor to evaluate
My favorite team against your favorite team, haha
enemies for 4 hours old friend
I'm eager to see it

I have to say, In my opinion, Urban Meyer is the best coach in football, PERIOD! I think he will go down in history as an equal if not surpass the legendary coach Bryant. Everywhere he goes, he turns programs into winners.
That being said, how can you possibly think that his game plan will include matching the pace Oregon will want to set.
Like Wahs, I go back and forth on this epic game, and can't wait to watch the ebb and flow. At this time, Im leaning Oregon. For people to post that this is going to be a blow out is just ridiculous!
Personally, I think it will come down to the mental toughness and skills of the two quarterbacks going down the stretch.
Can't wait!

SHOULD BE A GREAT GAME! WHOEVER WINS THE TURNOVER BATTLE WILL LIKELY WIN AND COVER THE SPREAD.................WHICH IS THE CASE IN MOST FOOTBALL GAMES. BUT I BELIEVE THE COACHING EDGE BELONGS TO OSU......GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

Urban Meyer is definitely a top notch coach, I give him the edge as well.

Good post. I think that you have to give Mariotta the edge on QB for sure, he's the seasoned veteran.

Can't predict TOs but I wouldn't be surprised to see Mariota force a deep ball and get picked. I think osu forces him (tries to force him) to beat them deep, I think their gameplan will be based on pressure and confusion...
In addition to Red Zone performance and TOs... tackling is another huge factor here. Who will keep 2 yard gains to 2 yard gains? I give osu the edge here.

Forcing him deep would be wise considering his top WR is out due to knee injury in rose bowl on opening kickoff
Osu will have the edge in several areas
I have broken it down from every angle several times & it's a tough game to predict

Time to predict it
I've gone back and forth on this too. Just when I think I'm taking one side I have 2nd thoughts. This practice news doesn't really affect it...coaches are going to prepare the same amount of time irregardless. Normally in a game like this, I wouldn't bet on it...but I have to choose a side due to pools and contests.
If your team is Oregon, it'd be difficult to go Ohio State. I'd never be able to fade UGA or FSU in the title game. BOL.

It takes a lot of concentration, focus and execution to run a prolific offense like Oregon's and to score practically 50 points a game (they could have scored that much in EVERY game since Arizona).
Think about it for a moment: How can you execute an offense w/o complete commitment and to be in the right spot at the right time, and also know what your opponent is going to do?
The ONLY thing Ohio St can do is try beat Oregon with an option type QB (The freshmen QB for Arizona is a runner passer, and Zona's defense is blitz option). Buckeye's QB is not at all mobile--he's a TREE.
I think Oregon's toughest test was Florida St in the Rose Bowl, and this was there NC as they defeated the true #1 team (Alabama should NEVER have been #1, that is SEC bias at work).
The conditions are perfect for Oregon to dictate tempo, scoreboard, and put Ohio State into situations they will be uncomfortable. But I also think it is not good to underestimate the Buckeyes, or an idiot QB (I think he's kind of a dumb and dumber lug). They relish playing the spoilers, and to muck up a PAC 12 team's hopes. Playing spoiler is motivating, and I've seen the Ohio St do it before.
Urban Meyer gives them confidence and reality checks, and they are tough and in condition--mentally and physically.
Alabama's offense and their QB simply do not compare to Oregon's spread offense. Oregon does not have to run between the tackles to gain yardage.
The game is decided by ATTITUDE.
Both teams have champion attitudes, and loads of confidence. To hold up the trophy is gonna take execution, precision for the entire game.
Close game throughout. I like Oregon to win this by a score. I think they get to 50, and OSU pressures late but Oregon prevails. Turnovers will cost the Bucks.

Ohio State and Oregon run VERY similar offenses. Oregon averaged 47.2 ppg in the defensively challenged Pac. OSU played in a conference with far superior defenses and averaged 2.2 points less WITHOUT playing at the same tempo. The OSU offense is as prolific as Oregon's. I would give Oregon's the slight edge because of the inexperience of Jones only. OSU is more talented.
The only thing OSU can do is run the QB vs Oregon?
Anu Solomon ran for ZERO yards in their victory over Oregon. ZERO! The rest of the team did run for 208 though. The "Tree" OSU QB ran for more yards vs Alabama than Solomon ran for vs Oregon. OSU should be able to run the ball with relative ease vs Oregon. Oregon's front 7 isn't even in the same league as Alabama's and they put up 287. OSU's run game is far better than any Oregon has seen, They can run between the tackles or at the perimeter. OSU will probably get 350+ on the ground.

I'm going with OSU's coach, ball control, and defense. Keep a high-tempo offense on the bench, they can't kill you. OSU is plenty good enough to keep the ball. Defense is good enough to keep it close. Close ain't gonna be good enough for Oregon.
Side note: FSU already had an NC...once the dominoes fell, they had that to fall back on. Makes it a little easier to say "screw it". OSU will have no such mentality.
OSU with points + ML for me.

Great points ksu. Defense wins championships. And although this is college ball, I still cannot help but to think about the past 2 superbowls, both faves get beat str8 up by the teams w better defenses.

so do any of you guys believe that you're undervaluing Oregon's defense? Because a lot of what I'm reading is saying that Ohio State has a large QB who's just going to run over Oregon's defense and control the clock. That seems to be the common consensus and I'm a little bit worried that thats just too easy to spot and say well that makes Ohio State the winner.

I'm not worried about the QB running, I'm worried about that pimp RB getting chunk yardage on the reg
I'm leaning toward the points but am aware of Oregon's ability to roll them up as well
no idea what I'll bet at this point, I won't force anything, I do know that much

I am probably underrating oregon's defense in my head. I don't think I'm overrating osu / urban though.
If you told me the run game wasn't going to be there and the game was going to be on cardale's shoulders... I'm not gonna feel great. Two games on film now of cardale, he's clearly been severely babysat, don't think he's the worst but don't think he's going to play great.
I think for any osu backer it comes down to the coaching matchup. Will osu be able to get the ball in the hands of playmakers in space, can they outscheme oregon? I say yes.
Will osu be able to consistently (key word bc that is what will keep the pressure off cardale) overpower oregons front 7? I say I'm not sure but I sure hope so.
