I highly doubt Ole Miss offense only puts up only 10.
That will be the key. If Ole Miss can score in the 17 point range, they should definitely cover. The wildcard will be if Bama's defense generates a score or 2.

I don't. I think the high water mark will be around 30. All bets are off if Saban decides to pull the trigger on a QB change. I don't see that happening though.

Agree with everything you say. Ole Miss is very undervalued, particular their defense.
I had Ole Miss +24.5 in that 2008 game. I also had that game with Miss St. +24.5 @ LSU and Bama +7 at Georgia in a huge 3-team parlay. Won a new car that day. Remember it like it was yesterday.

You do know that GMAC was 27-34 for 315 yards, 2 tds, 0 ints against a stout South Carolina defense, do you not. The man is a stud.

The reason Alabama was losing to Arkansas 17-7 at the half instead of winning 21-10 was the fault of one person, and one person only . . . GMac. He cost Bama backers the 1st half and game covers. In consecutive games against Arkansas and Florida, Alabama completed a grand total of one pass 10 yards beyond the line of scrimmage, and that pass was thrown by WR Marquis Maze - not GMac. I wrote about this in my South Carolina write-up.

To someone who doesn't understand football, that looks peachy. But if all you're going to do is dump the ball off 3 yards downfield, people who understand football will realize that, if that's the case, you will probably have pretty stats in a losing cause.
Despite having both Arkansas and Florida stack the box on them, Bama had a grand total of one completion 10 yards beyond the line of scrimmage, and that pass was thrown by WR Marquis Maze on a trick play.
There's an old axiom in football that says "take what the defense gives you." When the defense sells out on the run and the underneath routes, what is the defense giving you?
McElroy has all the weapons a QB could ever want to stretch the field and open up the running game, but he either can't or won't do it, and defense coordinators (all of whom will have 2 weeks to prepare for Bama from here on out) understand this. They are simply selling out on all the underneath stuff and daring McElroy to beat them deep, and so far he hasn't been able to (or won't) do it.
BTW, what would McElroy's stats have been had he thrown the ball away 8 times instead of taking 8 sacks and a fumble that lead to 7 points for the other team? That in spite of having 8-9 seconds to throw the ball on two of those sacks, and 4-6 seconds on the other 6. Meanwhile extremely talented receivers were running around wide open down the field.
If you think any of this remotely resembles good QB play, you really don't have a firm grasp of offensive football strategy at all. Does this mean the problem can't be fixed?. Not at all. But right now it is not fair to the talent on Bama's offense to be constantly held back by McElroy.

If you have a television set, pull out the rabbit ears and tune into the football game next time. Then you may actually be able to make a contributory post or two on Covers based on what you saw.

I think I posted in another thread that Mcelroy can't pass more than 10 yards, doesn't know how to throw the ball when he is getting blitzed, etc etc.
I'm going to have to agree with Jimmy that Mcelroy is not a suitable QB for Alabama. I feel that everytime Alabama plays a decent team with good rush defence, they will be a some trouble. Alabama is a team that is stacked with amazing players but they have a weak link, and the weak like is Mcelroy. That's just my opinion after watching the Crimson tides this season.

I am not analyzing the South Carolina game, I'm looking forward to the Ole Miss game.
With respect to McElroy, I am analyzing the totality of his work, not just his performance in the South Carolina game. The games leading up to the South Carolina game is what set Bama up for what happened in Columbia (offensively speaking). I even wrote about this in my South Carolina writeup. See

No question the defense got abused in this game. Up until last weekend, Alabama could count on the defense to win games for them. Saturday Alabama needed McElroy to step up and win a crucial SEC game when the defense wasn't playing well. Despite having ample opportunities to do so, McElroy wasn't able to pull through.
The defense has a chance to regroup and learn from this game. The McElroy issue has been an issue almost his whole career. If it is not remedied, Bama's offense will struggle the rest of the season.

*** INJURY UPDATE ***
Not only will Bama be without WR Julio Jones this weekend, they will also be playing without their stud RT DJ Fluker. He will be out at least 2 weeks with a severely pulled groin muscle.

I see that. Interesting. Thought it would probably go the other way.

I am not down on my team at all. I predicted before the season started that Bama would probably lose 1 or 2 games this season, and I identified the South Carolina game as the game they would most likely lose. I repeated that many times through the first few weeks. I also said in my South Carolina write-up that I would probably be fading Bama in this game. I fully understand who they are playing, and my money is already on Ole Siss +20.
