Ole Miss covers
Congrats to us
Side note: Alabama looked like shit
Nice easy cover like I thought it would be.
I have been saying for weeks (but nobody seems to listen) that things would get more difficult for Bama's offense if they can't find a QB that can stretch defenses. If they can't keep defenses honest, Bama has not lost its last game this season. Defenses are stacking the box to take away the run with no fear of being beaten downfield, and do you blame them? Right now Bama would be a much more dangerous team offensively with backup QB AJ McCarron in there.
Saban is very aware of the issue. He's been talking about it for two years now. Whether he has the gonads to pull the trigger on a mid-season QB switch remains to be seen, but that's what needs to happen.
I can tell you that the frustration amongst the offensive players on the team is growing by the week. The have seen what AJ can do in practice, and I can assure they would like to see him get a chance.
This is a situation that bears watching.

Well, you are absolutely right about the 3rd down defense. It has been atrocious. But this team brought back an entire offense that is exceptionally talented from last season. If this team was scoring in the 30s and 40s like they should be every game, the third down defense wouldn't be as big of an issue.
Let me put it this way. Should this team look to an extremely young defense (only one senior) to carry this team week in and week out, or should this responsibility fall on an offense replete with experience players? It should be the offense of course.
The defense will likely come around as they gain experience. But because of the glaring weakness under center, if the defense doesn't get it done one week (see the USC game), the offense has no ability to win a game for them (like Cam Newton has done all season for Auburn).

Jacksonville state scored 49 points on Ole Miss. Vandy scored 28. Fresno State scored 38. And Kentucky scored 35.
All games were in Oxford.
Alabama at home scored 23 points against Ole Miss.
Alabama should be embarrassed.

I agree. The offense was pathetic, but I expected that. I think my projected score for the game was 27-16, so that was pretty close.

Yeah, the Gator offense is pretty sad right now. That UM offense is just not working without a legit running threat at QB.
It is a sad day in Gator football when Miss St. comes into your house and is 4 of 9 passing for 33 yards and wins the game. WOW!!!

I lean Tennessee. Tennessee did not take any time off on their bye week. They will have had 11 full days of prep before they hit the field against Alabama on Saturday.
As I have said on several occasions, Bama's offense is one of the easiest offenses in the country to prepare for because of McElroy's inability to stretch defenses. Defenses are simply dedicating their safeties to stopping the run (primarily with run blitzes) with no regard whatsoever for the deep middle. That is bottling up the run game, and the only effective passing game McElroy has, which is the short dump-offs. If McElroy cannot stretch defenses and keep them honest, scoring points will be a struggle for this team from here on out.
I said Bama would not score 30 points against Ole Miss, and the same holds true in this game. I see a similar points output from Bama's offense again this week (low to mid 20s). Their defense will probably be good enough to allow the Bama faithful to sing Rammer Jammer in Knoxville at the end of the game, but I'm not prepared to lay 17 points with a team that probably will not score more than 24.
Keep up the great work in your weekly thread Oahu. For those of you who are missing it, it is must read material.
