I see where some are defending Alabama for losing to Utah back in 2008...
Look guys, you cant have your cake and your cookie too. If Alabama wins that game the you guys will say that......well, its the SEC. They had no business playing us in the first place. But if you lose, then it's..........Well, we dont care about that game. The national championship is all we cared about. WRONG,WRONG, WRONG, and WRONG.
I acknowledge that the SEC has been dominate for several season now... But some of you need you heads checked...
Alabama wanted nothing to do with that bowl game and that was the biggest game in the history of Utah football. Do you honestly think those factors didn’t play a huge role in the game?

Boom, I am an objective, situational bettor that does not give a crap about conferences or any of that mumbo-jumbo. There was a very strong chance Alabama was not going to show up for that game. I had a very strong opinion about that and won big. It wasn't the wrong analysis, it was the right analysis.
Maybe Utah would have beat Alabama had the Tide given a shit but they didn't give a shit, they were a bunch of disheartened kids who had been #1 all year and pissed away a shot at a national championship to play a school down on the totem pole (in their eyes). It was one of the biggest letdown spots of the last few years, while it was a big step-up game for those Utah kids.
Again, this is coming from an objective bettor who does not give a crap about what team a conference comes from.
That's part of the reason I put a little on the Utah ML. I figured if Alabama showed up they would probably win by 20+ points and if they didn’t Utah would either win SU or lose by the skin of their teeth.

You know people are clamoring for CFB when we're arguing about a game that took place 3 years ago.
SatNightFever - While it may be looked at as an excuse, the reality was that's what happened, Alabama never showed. I read a lot of your threads last year you seem to understand the situational aspect of this sport, thought you'd understand.

No I understand what you are saying and that is a valid point (in terms of Auburn wanting to be there as well)
However, you still continued to give an excuse as to why Alabama lost that game..
Situation or not, Bama got their ass handed to them and please stop making excuses as to why they lost that game..
You asked “if Oregon beat Auburn LY, would you have the same argument? Because clearly last year's Title game was the most important game in Oregon's history.”
I answered that Alabama didn’t want to be in the sugar bowl while Auburn did want to be in the BCS championship game so it wasn’t the same thing and your response is to still moan “you’re making excuses, you’re making excuses.”

Only in college football can a team clearly whip another team displaying they are clearly the better team (was not close) and people think like this. Alabama not meeting their expectation's is no excuse for mailing in the Sugar bowl. If it is, Saban was wrong to blame the Tide fans that attended the game for the loss as he publicly did, the tide fans should have been much more harsh blaming Saban for letting his team lay down because they were to spoiled to get up for a game that is big and it is his responsibility to not let this happen...The fact is Utah was much the better team that night and had Bama been undefeated and the game actually been for the national championship, Utah would have still won, no matter the excuses...

P.S....Sick of the "situational aspect" being a cop out for teams like Bama here or Oklahoma in the fiesta bowl vs Boise St. Sure it happens as anyone who consistently bet sports realizes, but when a team loses a sugar or Fiesta bowl it is either a cop out (which it most clearly is) or the head coach laid down on the job...

It's not a cop out. Maybe Utah would have beaten them anyway, who knows. But you have to put yourself in the shoes of these kids and realize the games are played by 18-22 year olds and every team doesn't play with the same intensity or emotion from game to game. These kids were the top team in the country of most of the season, they had a great shot at a national championship but let it slip through their grasp in a devastating loss. I mean it's human nature after a devasting loss like that to take a long time to get over it especially when your next game means nothing compared to the game you just lost.
For lack of a better analogy think of it as you are going in for a job interview to get promoted to this dream position you always wanted. You get in there and things are going pretty good and you think you might get this but suddenly towards the end of the interview you say some things you shouldn't and ultimately end up losing out on the job. A devastating personal loss, you were thisclose but not only that you now have to go back to a shitty job that you really couldn't care less about. Are you going to be happy to be back at that shit job or are you still be going to be thinking about your loss and "what if"?.

Oh, and if you think the game would have played out the same way if it had been the BCS championship you’re either an SEC-hater, a Utah homer, or you are drunk.

As andarmac said: it’s not a cop out. It’s simply what happened.

That’s what some of these SEC haters are not getting. This is not a situation in which a star player is blaming the worst game of his career all on a headache or bad calls by the refs.
Saying Alabama wanted no part of that game while to Utah it was the biggest game in the history of their football program is simply what happened.

Bama lost. Who cares about all of the other excuses. The bottom line is we will never know what happened in that game if Bama had not lost to Florida (even though the match up would of been different). All we know is that Bama lost to Utah. The conversation should end there.
Like an earlier poster said that would be like saying that UT would of beaten Bama if Colt did not get hurt in the 1st quarter of the championship game. Well guess what we do not know what would of happened but all we know is that UT did not win.

Oh, I 100% agree the situation completely favored Utah and I am almost certain you and everyone is right stating that Bama didn't want to be there..
The only reason the Utah game was brought up was simply due to another poster calling out Hawaii/UGA game to embellish a claim that Hawaii stated that UGA was the 'fastest team they ever played'.. just though it was uncalled for for the SEC homer to call out a team that was the worst non-aq school to play for a BCS game and act like that still has relevance today..

What makes you think that game was the biggest in Utah's history? Pretty sure their first undefeated season back in 04 would top the Sugar Bowl..
And here we go again with the 'If you didn't think Bama was the better team and they just lost because they didn't want to be there then either you are a Utah homer (do these exist?) or a SEC hater because we are soo good and should never lose a BCS game unless it's because we didn't care about it"

I work with a pretty big Utah fan and according to him Utah fans consider the Sugar Bowl against Bama to be the biggest game in their history, but hey, I’m sure you know better about Utah football than Utah fans, right?
And even he admits that Alabama not showing up was one of the main reasons Utah won. After the game I asked him “if Alabama played like they had all season do you think Utah still would have won the way they did?” His response was “well….um…. *chuckles* probably not.”
You are letting your hatred of the SEC blind you. Let go of your hatred and jealousy.

So 1 Utah fan speaks for the entire Utes fan base???
And again, I never said I hate the SEC or am jealous of the SEC, but why is it that your only rebuttal when anyone questions how on earth a SEC team could lose a big game?
Is it not possible for a SEC team to just get outplayed and that be the end of it? Either the SEC team didn't care about the game or the person bringing it up is a SEC hater & jealous...
Do you hear yourself?

This is 100 % correct... Like I've said before.
If teams Like Utah or Boise Beat the bama's of the world... it will always be an excuse to why.
Look people Alabama Got there asses whipped.... Dont say another word unless those words are....... UTAH STOMPED ALABAMA'S ASS....

Strawman after strawman after strawman.
Of course one Utah fan doesn’t speak for the entire Utes fan base. But one Utah fan speaking about his opinion of the opinions of all the other Utah fans he knows sure as hell knows more about Utah football than one loudmouth angry SEC-hater.
You don’t have to proclaim that you’re an SEC hater or that you’re jealous of the SEC. Your actions and words make it blindingly obvious.
Hopefully one day you can let go of all that hatred and anger.

Show me where in any of my previous posts where I 'bash' the SEC...
Perhaps you don’t, but I, like most people here, have got better things to do with my time that go searching through dozens of threads from last football season just to appease a loudmouth troll.
Your true feelings are pretty obvious. I’m not quite sure why you are filled with so much hatred. It’s just sports, dude. Relax.
