Liking Tulsa the more I look at them not for the 4.5 RSW (3-9 LY) but for the potential surprise ... Golden Hurricane O has been more like a Golden Shower O the last couple years, so awful especially at QB... plugging in Zach Smith from Baylor this year and this kid has the chops to play 10 starts at Bay and ripped Oklahoma '17 for 460yds 4TD's 0INTs for 66% and that's before Sooners dropped to the bottom in pass efficiency, Sooners D gave up only 1 other 400+pass game that year (JT Barret went 54%, 183 0-1 wk 2...) also lit up Boise St in the bowl game Fr yr in '16 (72% 375 3-1) huge win as a TD dog, easily BSU's worst pass D performance of the season... so QB unit can only be improved and maybe really improved ... bringing back substantially all the rest of their yards and 8 back on a sneaky good D last year that never got much attention ... OL a big concern w 3 All conf departing so leaves some questions there but really the only unit that's not looking better or maybe much better this year..
The prospectus on them is in the neighborhood of LY tougher schedule and public perception seems to drive that, projected last in division ... but barring them never getting the OL to work Monty could really start punching teams again this year ... ATS wise (6-6 LY) they should be flyin pretty low after Mich St's DL has a field day week 1.. I'll take a peek week 2 @ SJSU's D improvement and if that's not there then might be worth a shot, Monty pretty good as a road dog 2-4 LY but 11-7 overall in that spot... We'd then hope Okey State O is just too much for these guys Wk 3 so maybe another chance Wk 4 home vs Wyoming who realllly struggled LY vs better QB's and their D or O power could drop significantly with their roster shakeup this year .. Should know by then what this team's potential is as they go into a well placed bye week before conference... can't imagine anyone's thinking too highly of them at point either..... not predicting they'll rip it this season but a lot of potential improvement is high and possibly a sneak peek while these guys are still flyin low, we'll see... - Good luck!
