I dont understand why people keep forgetting about Cal WR Marvin Jones?? Lol. The guy is an NFL draft pick. Sofele also has been good running the football lately he got over a 100 yards against Oregon. Cal has MANY weapons on offense. The question is will Maynard be accurate?? He definitely will be more than last week as he was injured in that game.

Best of luck Hermes.  Don't know about all the hype with Cal's offense because to me they straight up suck.  Maynard is nothing impressive and his wideouts can't be considered the best duo in the country when all they compiled was a single touchdown last week.  Who have they posted points on?  Fresno, Colorado and some D-2 school?  They really aren't that good and the biggest reason being their quarterback sucks.  Cal barely managed to get a field goal in the Washington 2nd half and got completely blanked by Oregon.  Again I'm not arguing with your play just wondering how you were able to build this disappointing Cal offense up to a such a high standard.  The two descent teams they played held them to 15 and 23.  I mean you really think these guys are that talented?  Where's the points on the board to show off that talent?

This game is not meaningful.  SC is on probation and Cal is in the cellar.  The Pac 12 is a 2 horse race:  Oregon & Stanford.

Both games you are referring to were on the road..There is a big difference here with Cal playing at home in front of their fans. This team has played in 5 different venues in 5 weeks, this would take a toll on any college team. Especially one with a new starting QB this year. You are right they were basically blanked by two opponents on the road the last 2 second halves they played but in front of the Cal faithful tonight this will be a different story. You will see points tonight from the Bears and you will see it for all four quarters. I see Maynard suprising many people this evening. Kid is very talented with a strong arm and mobility. Tedford who is one of the best QB groomers will have this kid ready to play.

Now if he made some of these bums relevant than he can definitely make Maynard a baller. It's just a matter of time and I definitely see tonight being a breakthrough performance for him against a horrible USC Defense.

MEANINGFUL to the Pac 12 and MEANINGFUL to these individual teams are two different things...

Thursday night, National TV audience, NorCal/SoCal rivalry....

I would say this has plenty of meaning, especially how it can positively affect recruiting for both programs.

Homecoming doesn't mean anything when it comes to a game. Just because college kids are drinking double, doesn't have any affect on the field. USC, horrible coaches? Not the best, but certainly not horrible. Appreciate your work, but you are basing your pick on hypothetical situations. Cal QB sucked last week, no reason to believe it will be a 180 this week. USC will put up too many points, Cals offense won't be able to keep up. Over is a safer bet.

By all means I definitely did not forget about Marvin Jones, but Maynard did last week. Every time he was forced to move his feet he couldn't produce a good pass. and his eyes were locked on one guy every play, and that was Allen. Also I agree that Cal has many weapons, but I think they could have moved the ball a lot better on the ground with Sofele last week. Anderson got way to many touches, and anytime Sofele was in the game it seemed like he was breaking them open for 8-15 a carry. He is definitely under used, and Tedford couldn't figure that out last game.

Clearly I am a SC homer (and grad), so i watch a Lot of Pac-12 games

And we do more or less stink this year.  Lane kiffin makes very suspect calls (ie. going for it on 4th down at mid-field when up by 14 against Arizona with 2 minutes to go - only to allow a backdoor cover by UA...or all of his 2 point attempts early in games) and that's why I bet AGAINST them when UA came to town and got +14

That said, I would not bet Cal.  I'm not saying to be SC though.  But MAynard looks like a rag doll, and SC still has talent, AND We own Cal over the years.  I'll take Barkley-Woods over Maynard-marvin all day.  I think SC rolls in this one and i'll probably play a little as a fan fav, but nothing big

Only angle that scares me as a SC backer is "Thursday night home dog"

There is NO Rivalry here from SC perspective.......(our rivals our ucla and ND)

There is a big difference between a strong arm and an accurate one.
I know he was injured and that might have been the cause of his inaccuracies but I don't believe he has a very strong arm.
I probably have not watched him as much as your have but last week whenever he had a long throw or a tight location in which he had to throw hard, he would whip his head as he threw.  When you don't look where your throwing it tends to lead to non accurate throws.

Guys im starting to get really excited about this game and cant wait for it to start. i really think cal defensively gets after and puts pressure on barkley forcicing to make a mistakes like he did against asu. Remember Cal loves putting pressure and are ranked 5th nationally in sacks.
