Key points one more time.......
GT QB has only thrown two (2) passing TDs all year.
GT has been a one-dimensional 'running team' to now.
GT will be missing their top 2 running backs in this one.
GT will be without arguably their best Olineman (32 consecutive starts)
This means that the other guard will be moved over to replace him, and two relatively inexperienced guys will try to handle his guard spot. This will throw their usually smooth and balanced Oline out of kilter to some degree, it HAS to.
This, along with those 2 running backs out, means to me, that VT will STOP or drastically slow down the rambling wreck run game.
Now.....a team that only has two passing TDs all year, will be forced to put the ball up in the air a BUNCH. Remember folks, this is a 50% passer here, who hasn't to now been FORCED to throw the ball a lot. This should play right into the hands of an excellent Hokie defensive backfield, and should lead to some hokie picks and possibly fumbles from hard hits as well. GT will not be the only team blitzing here people, this will be the toughest defense GT has faced all year, just as #2 ranked BC found out for 56 minutes.
Brandon Ore (VT running back) looked like his old self last week (finally) with hokies getting more rush yards than anyone has all season on the nation's leading rush defense (BC).
Sean glennon had no picks against a strong BC team, and now is sporting a 132.36 pass efficiency rating, with a 62.4 completion average.
My best guess is that BOTH QBs will play for the Hokies, although I expect Sean Glennon to start, as he reads defenses much better/quicker.... and is better prepared to see those blitzes coming and prepare for them.
TT will be saved to use in special situational positions.
In the 3 games against GT since VT joined the ACC, VT has outscored them 42-3...in the 4th quarter. 25-3 in 2004, 3-0 in 2005, and 14-0 last year.
These guys (GT) simply do not have a Heisman quality QB like Matt Ryan to bring them back, if they get down to VT.
Hokies out to prove a point here, AND still in the running for a shot at winning the divisional title and ACC Championship.
Hokies are a GREAT 'away' team in the ACC, best record in the league (since joining) if I remember correctly.
They are 2-2 at home with their wins against EMU and Gardner Webb.
