“We must get rid of guns because a deranged lunatic may go on a shooting spree at any time and anyone who would own a gun out of fear of such a lunatic is paranoid.”
If someone breaks into your home with a gun and the intention of bringing harm to you and your family what are you going to do? You call the cops and they are 5 minutes away, but what do you do in the mean time while you wait for the men to come rescue your family because you can’t protect them yourself?
Run around in circles? Beg for mercy?

Find house,
Get out of car
locate entry
Locate yard
establish communication with 911 caller
initiate search
determine intruder/friendly......................................................................................................
Shooter is being very generous with the '5 minutes' We're taling 15 whole minutes at least.
You're dead.

Another woman with tears rolling down her face walked by carrying a car seat with a young infant inside and a bag that appeared to have toys and stuffed animals.
Try to process that.

Crash has been asked multiple times to answer this question:
“If someone breaks into your home with a gun and the intention of bringing harm to you and your family what are you going to do? Do to his inability to answer the question I suppose we can only assume his answer is to run around in circles, beg for mercy for his family and himself, and/or simply accept his and his family’s fate at the hands of violent criminal.

“I tried to answer this indirectly but I guess we need a direct answer. The direct answer is I have no earthly idea. None.”
(i.e run around in circles, beg for mercy for your family and yourself, and/or simply accept your and your family’s fate at the hands of violent criminal)
“What would you do? Does anyone know what they would really do in this situation.”
What would I do if someone broke into my house with a gun and tried to hurt/kill me or mine? I would do everything I could to see they got riddled with rounds of Winchester Ranger .45 ACP 230 grain T-Series JHP. I sure as hell wouldn’t throw myself at the mercy of a violent criminal.
You can offer up all the “what if’s” you want but the fact of the matter is if a criminal breaks into your house with the intention of hurting/killing your family the guy with a gun and the knowledge to properly use it is going to stand a better chance of survival than the unarmed man that “has no earthly idea” what they would do to protect themselves or their families.
“My point that I have tried to make clearly is this, you are safer without a gun in your house than you are with one.”
If you are a moron that is clueless when it comes to firearm safety and don’t know how to properly use and store it, then yes, you’re probably better off without a gun in your home.
However, if you’re a responsible gun owner that knows how to properly use your firearm then no, you’re probably safer with a gun in your house.
“I am trying to give you a reasonable argument your gun does not protect you and in fact, it puts you at risk.”
If you are talking about me specifically then you have failed miserably in your attempt. I am a responsible gun owner that has taken numerous firearm training courses.
“Just remember the chances of you using it for some kind of benefit are far outweighed by the chances of an accidental shooting, suicide or a tragedy”
Like I said earlier: if you’re a moronic gun owner then yeah. But if you’re a responsible gun owner that knows how to properly use and store your firearm then no.
“…a tragedy like just occurred in Connecticut. I do find it comical that…”
I know you didn’t mean anything by it, but that might not have been the best choice of words.

You’ve been watching too many of those ridiculous ADT home security commercials where the white guy breaks into someone’s house, the alarm goes off, the criminal is looking right at the family, and then of course the criminal runs off without harming the family.
You rely on your loud noise that sends police to come save you and your family from the bad men. Maybe you, your family, and the criminal can play a board game while you wait for the police to show up.
I’ll rely on my loud noise, my 90 pound GSD, AND my Ed Brown 1911.

No, but with the holidays there are some running around. I keep my home defense handgun in a gun vault on my nightstand and the rest in a gun safe.
I hope it works out for you as well. Hopefully you’ll never have to find out if a loud noise is enough to protect you from an armed criminal intending you harm.
