You see, we have a constitution that protects the imbeciles who want to own guns. The constitution is unique and the ultimate answer. If you want to own a gun, go ahead, but do it with your eyes open, that it puts you and your family in danger.

I do not know what he would have done if he did not have a handgun but it really is not the point.
I will say two things.
1) For the right to lifers  who value ALL HUMAN LIFE , he would still be alive if he did not have a handgun.
2) It is one thing to shoot someone, it is another entirely to choke, stab or beat them to death. Could he have beat her to death, with his bare hands, with an object, sure, OK I will concede the point.  That said, I bet 50% of the impulse shootings would not be murders if someone had to really get after it to kill someone.

If you are anti-gun control and are kicked out of America, you can always come live in my country -- Kalifornia.  Here, guns are outlawed and only outlaws have guns -- Home Land Security will soon be getting rid of those also.

Crash I respectfully disagree. My family owns a whole lot of guns and we are in ZERO danger.

In fact we are safer than the ones that don't own a gun.

Vehicles are dangerous...People die every day in vehicle crashes.

Plane crashes....Train crashes....etc...

Having guns in the home is far from ludacious....Its comfort in knowing that you have protection against the scumbags that are trying to take whats yours or do harm to you or your family.! My 12 yr old daughter can protect herself should she need to against a home intruder could yours?

Tree that is cool but read the article on the cop shooting himself, if a cop can do it, then could a 12 year old?
If you have the guns locked up and protected, then they are not providing you protection.......by the time you get to them, it would be too late.

It is a catch 22

If a 7 year  police veteran can shoot himself, how about a 12 year old who is home alone? I used this article because it just happened but this happens everyday, it is so common it is not even news.

Again, up to you but you should have your eyes open.
For protection, your safety would be better with a dog, security system, living in a good neighborhood etc...



Cars are dangerous too, there is no doubt about it. but the value of a car for transportation and earning a living for outweigh the risk. It is a risk reward model.

Crash...That cop could run off the road and kill himself too. All Im saying is My kids know how to operate a firearm and would have no problem defending themselves instead of becoming another helpless victim. Is there a chance they could have a accident with a firearm? Sure just like there's a chance they could be involved in a head on collision on the way home..

I show 3 examples of trained law enforcement officers injuring themselves and others in the last 30 days, and no one stops to give it pause.
You guys, go ahead, play with your guns. I am just telling you,
you are much safer without them.

So Tree, which chance do you think is greater, them having an accident like these three cops I have shown or having the cool to pull a gun at the age of 12 line someone up , make a decision to end that persons life and pull the trigger?

I may not change your mind and that is ok, we can agree to disagree.
Give it some though though. Think about what you are asking the 12 year old to do, it would be a tall order for a seasoned police vet and almost inconceivable for a 12 year old.

Cars again are not a good analogy, cars are a necessary part of our society and their risk justifies their use. 

The point is this, are you really safer with a gun in your house when people accidentally shoot themselves all the time...... and others.
Not to mention, coming home drunk, getting dumped by your first boyfriend and wishing to end it all with a loaded handgun in the house.
12 year olds do not have the ability to decipher what is really important and the permanence of death.

You should be a spokesperson for the NRA because you are making a great argument for the 2nd Amendment.

By the way, has anyone noticed posts are disappearing? 5 minutes ago there were 44 and as I'm typing this there are 39.

I completely agree with Tree88 on this and am in the same situation as he is when it comes to having guns in the house.

You can't sit here and say he wouldn't be alive if he wouldn't have had a gun. He could have drove into on coming taffic and ended it right there. I don't care how someone kills someone else whether it's a gun, choking, beating,  whatever the case may be...I would consider that "getting after it"

I could post article after article as well where situations could have changed for the better if guns would have been present but were not. take the shooting down in the movie theatre in Colorado a while back. If I would have been sitting in that theatre when that happened, I guarentee you that he wouldn't have got off near as many shots and that a few more lives would have been saved.

I love when people bring up the Colorado shooting as it was literally in my backyard.
The perp was in full body armor. Unless you had a bazooka, it would not have made a bit of difference.
It also would have involved you shooting with people running at you screaming in a dark movie theater at a man carrying an automatic weapon and firing at will who had thrown smoke into the theater.

Easy enough for most average gun enthusiasts.  
If you could reasonably make that shot with all the adrenaline pumping and probably for the first time in an armed conflict, more power to you. I will not doubt it and I wish you were there.

The study also identified 36 cases where the defender lost his life during the incident but that compares to the 210 cases where the perpetrator was shot by his intended victim. Sixty-five carjackings were successfully ended by an armed citizen who used his weapon to defend himself.

Read this again. It is not a study in the first place. It states the CDC- a very well respected governement instituition had 535 accidental shootings in one year. Then it states it could only verify 4 of them. Really. 
Then is says there were 5000 reports not made to any agency over an 8 year period that showed guns preventing crime!
Really?

If you shoot yourself with a gun by accident,you probably deserve to die and if a kid shoots himself in a home its the parents fault for being stupid and not locking gun away.

Guns are cool.
