Question

Hey Guys,Wondering if anyone can help me out.  I am looking for a new career....I have worked in Financial Services for the Past 13 years with most of the major firms on Wall Street.  I had a lot of success within sales and then decided to leave as I needed a new change in my life.   I have been applying for lots of jobs within sales in different industries but no luck in getting a call back.  Also recruiters are not very helpful and I have been using LinkedIN for most of my leads.Any suggestions for a career change.  I&#x27;m in my mid 30&#x27;s...no kids, no wife....  so I am open for relocation as well.  Thanks for the input.

What do you want to do? You left a stable job for a "new change" in your life. If you are sacrificing financial stability for something different, you really need to ask yourself what it is that you WANT to do.

Kapono - I want to stay in sales but I am having a very difficult time breaking into new industries....I worked in finance my whole career. I was thinking more of the lines of maybe Medical Sales or Sports Sales. Maybe even Technology Sales.... The point is I want to try something new.

I am ok for money, Its just that boredom is starting to set in....

Just wondering if people had ideas on how I could get through without experience in those fields or sectors

Crappy time to make a career change unless you have a SOLID plan and are willing to sacrifice some $$ for a while.

I am a recruiter and you will never, EVER get into an established company with "career change" approach. Companies recruiters work with don't want "career change" people....they can find those anywhere. They want plug in and go right away types.

Don't bother with recruiters. You're going to need to find a small company looking for a grunt with potential who is willing to work for peanuts initially (and also willing to empty the waste basket if needed if you know what I mean).

Go be a loan officer or work for a mortgage lender in a sales/account role. Both are sales jobs that require next to little experience in the actual field if you have a sales background. While the housing market sucks, a lot of these people are still making bank.

Unless you have connections, the medical sales job is probably not gonna happen. If you don't have actual high level technical skills for a specific product, a good technical sales job probably is not gonna happen either.

unfortunately I know alot of people in your field that now work for friend&#x27;s businesses,target,walmart and other jobs they wouldnt have even thought of doing before the collapse of our job market...

thanks for the input guys. i am getting a lot of offers from other companies that i use to compete against, just dont want to do that right now.

again, i dont need the money. i can live happily for the next 10 years and be ok.

Learn how to live off the land and take care of yourself and your family members and friends.  The whole financial system, in my opinion, is crooked.  Maybe you don&#x27;t see it, but it is.  Sounds crazy, but you can find a way to live a comfortable life without being in the middle of all the bs.  Of course if you can get out to Vegas and hit a 10 team parlay, that would help too. Doggs - Thats the main reason I left the financial industry. I couldn't deal with the BS and ethics involve in the business anymore. Im much happier now and sleeping a lot better at night!

13 years, that means u probably have a lot of connections by now?

why not use some of the connections to get into a field?

you must of had some lunches with people in diff. fields right? shoot them an email.

if you want something that will keep you on your toes go to a car dealership and tell them you are in sales and want in. they'll take you if you score 80/100 on the interview and tests. the drug test should be easy. do you know how to drive a car? some wall street people dont have their license.

The guy obviously isn&#x27;t happy and is willing to sacrifice to make a change.  My props to him.  Many are in the same boat and just keep grinding away too scared to do something about it.  &#xD;&#xA;And NR, you sound like you might be the type who would like to be part of a small business.  Talk to WHOEVER you can.  Smaller businesses need people who like to work and have a passion about it.  They don&#x27;t always need experts in the product or service they may be producing.
