since rostos is getting philosophical again, i looked up webster's definition of faith. the one that seems to be most applicable is:
firm belief in something for which there is no proof
if we define faith that way, i don't know that i have faith in anything to the extent that it implies an expected result. not saying that's good or bad, just the way i approach things. there's what i can control, there's probability and statistics and for me, that's about it.

our country is run by morons and some smart people who are corrupt. it's unfathomable how someone so warped could be chosen to make decisions for other people. but there are so many of them.

Where is your evidence that when you hop a plane next it wont crash?
Where is your evidence the partner you marry or if you are already married wont cheat behind your back?
Where is your evidence when you go to bed at night you will wake up the next morning?
Where is your evidence that when you bet on a game, the team you betted is actually going to play well?
Oh now you will look at past experience....Sure...
Some people walked in to the world trade centre every day for 40 years for work, did they have evidence a plane would crash into there tower? No...They had faith a plane would not crash into the building.
What about the several thousands of people that go to bed every night thinking they will wake up the next morning simply because they did so every day for the past 20-30-40-50-60 years and they didn't wake up. If they had evidence that they weren't going to wake up the next day they would have gone to bed? Or gone to the doctor, hospital etc?
The reality is KK, every single person on the planet exercises faith of some sort, every single person. Faith isn't about closing your eyes and running into the highway. It is about looking at the evidences around you and making deductive reasoning. The reality is, no one has evidences as to what is going to happen, yet they action it anyways, therefore exercising faith.
Everyone exercises faith....Some people put their into different things. Some people put there faith in Jesus Christ, some people put there faith in money, some people put there faith in drugs, some people put there faith in gambling....The list goes on....
No matter how rational and thoughtful reasonable explanations you give this character kitty, he will not understand you.
He is living in his own lala land...lol
Remember he has his own made-up dictionary and so words like faith has an entirely different meaning for that character.
He is just like his brother system, both of them are very irrational. They could be identical twins from birth and not even know it...lol

In our daily lives, a major part of our function is regarding surviving, eating, drinking to survive etc etc etc.
As I have said, when you fly on a plane, you are exercising faith. The reality is, you exercise faith because you are putting your life in the hands of a couple of pilots etc etc.
Now when we make a decision to fly, we use evidences around to form inductive reasoning. Nevertheless, you don't know for a 100% fact that when you fly on a plane, you will land safely. To say that you do, is a lie. The fact is, you put your faith in those pilots. I am sorry if you cannot accept this, but it is reality. The amount of faith needed is a different story.
You need more faith to fly on an aircraft that has a bad record than a plane that has a great record, nevertheless, you don't have proof the great airline record wont crash. You just don't.
There are several thousands of people around the world who don't fly, they are too scared, they don't have faith at all that they will land safely.

Um, in case you missed it, "Republicans" do not "run the country"
Though it is rather comical that someone would bring up "climate change" (note they abandoned global warming, since, well, the globe isn't warming) in a thread trying to bash Christians.
Self-awareness doesn't really exist for a lot of people.

It isn't "our government" any more than when I post silly, absurd comments made by Democrats, would be "our government"
Anyway, when you big truth tellers take to the Internet to equate Republicans with Christians (and 1 guy with "our government") I always enjoy reading this:
Barack Obama: I’m trying to remember if we’ve had this conversation. What I’ve said to them is that I believe that God created the universe and that the six days in the Bible may not be six days as we understand it — it may not be 24-hour days. And that’s what I believe. I know there’s always a debate between those who read the Bible literally and those who don’t, and that I think is a legitimate debate within the Christian community of which I’m a part. You know, my belief is that the story the Bible tells about God creating this magnificent Earth on which we live, that that is essentially true, that is fundamentally true. Now, whether it happened exactly as we might understand it reading the text of the Bible? That, you know, I don’t presume to know.
Don't worry, you rationalize your lack of criticize of Obama on the matter. Engaging in meme's makes life easier because meme's allow one to not engage in critical thinking. Critical thinking, like self-awareness, isn't for everyone.

if you get tired of this one, i have a companion thread or two in the politics forum. i know you don't like going in there, and who can blame you, but check out the story i just posted in the "things politicians say" thread about what some crackpot religious right dude is trying to do in virginia. funny, but scary too.
I replied to that thread and you have no idea what "some crackpot religious right dude is trying to do in virginia" in any manner what so ever.
You read a headline from a left wing blog saying it is bad, therefore you believe it is bad.
Remember, Critical thinking, like self-awareness, isn't for everyone.

By the way, I love the fact that people who believe in "man made climate change" (remember we must act now!) take to the Internet to mock Christians for having faith.
Let me help you"man made climate change" for a second. These dire predictions that we are all going to die from "man made" something started in the 1960's with the Population Bomb. Said dire predictions (and they are always changing: global cooling, global warming, etc) have never come to pass. So if you believe in "man made climate change" you may want to hold off on mocking anyone for faith.
Oh, and let's take a look at some of the other absurd things the "man made climate change" crowd believes in:
Unemployment benefits create jobs (Nancy Pelosi)
The CIA sold crack in LA (U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Los Angeles)
Bush/Cheney knew about, or participated in 9/11 (a ton of leftists believe this)
The US invaded Afghanistan for an oil pipeline (Michael Moore)
Government spending creates jobs - Barack Obama
A totally rational and sane response to a scenario where a young man killed his mother, stole her guns, and shot up a school (in a state with an Assault Weapons Ban no less), is to call for more gun sale "background checks"
That's just a partial list of silly, absurd stuff the left believes. Not a single Congressman or a singular example of a "Christian" a large cohort of a political party believe this crazy things.
Yet mysteriously clubdirt isn't starting threads on that.
Gee, I wonder why that is?

kk already addressed this. the decision to fly on an airplane is based on what we know of the airline industry, past performance, physics, etc.

Yeah I'm done responding to him. I have proven my point beyond a shadow of a doubt. If Rostos wants to say 2+2 does not equal 4, then there is nothing we can do about it.

KK did nothing. The reality is, you both have difficulty acceopting that you exercise faith. when you guys place a bet you exercise faith, otherwise why do you risk your hard earned.
Faith is the belief in things you don't have evidence for. You don't know your team is going to win when you bet on it, yet you still put your cash on it...
You don't know the plane is going to crash, yet you still fly in it.
Past experience is used to make inductive reasoning, part that only helps to form decisions, you still need to make a leap of faith because you don't have evidence in regards to what will happen.
The fact that many thousands of people around the world refuse to fly is proof of this.

you could have shortened this post to simply say, you don't know the difference between objectivity and subjectivity..

Of course you use evidences around to help you make decisions about what you are going to put your faith into, nevertheless, it is not proof that it will result the way you thought it would.
The plane example is the best example. Yes, we look at the airline company, its history, etc etc. Still, you don't have proof the plane will not crash.
The fact that several thousands of people around the world are too scared to fly is testimony to the fact one requires faith to fly, regardless of the evidences used in the decision making process, simply because no one can prove the plane will not crash.
These scenarios can be applied to several thousand examples we encounter in our lives.

KK, are you logical? Obviously not.

faith is not a requirement to ride on a airplane...
I think that people take logical "gambles" all the time... by looking at probability of reality and history people make decisions to fly...
It could be said that those with fear of flying need faith because in a rational/logical probability sense the fear of flying is actually irrational...
Its like saying that we need faith to breath because we could be breathing radon or some other gas that will kill us... so it like saying a prayer before I a take breath every time I need to...
or do we simply make a rational/logical choice based on a small probability of something bad being in the air and breath normally...
the way you sound is like phobias, intense fears, irrational anxiety and panicked/terrified emotions are the root of all faith... If not there would be no need for it...

Dl 136, do you gamble with things that involve your life? When we talk about such matters, it is not a gamble, rather a question of faith.
A sky diver believes / has faith that his chute will open after he jumps off the plane. He doesn't have evidence or proof that it will open, he has faith.
Yes, he looks at his past experiences that it opened, he also has his checks before he goes up on the plane.
However, he doesn't have proof that it will open the next time he tries.
How many experienced sky divers have actually jumped off the plane only for the chute not to open?
If they had evidence that it wouldn't open the next time they flew up, would they have jumped?

You know you're in serious trouble when your resorting to hypothetical explosions at print factories, hypothetical plane crashes and skydiving accidents, and using emoticons to try(and miserably at) embarrass other posters.
I think your God would be highly disappointed with what you have resorted to Rostos.
Btw, you apply the word faith can be applied to every aspect of life. What makes faith special at all at that point?
