I have done it a few times but its tough to get passed 9 in my opinion...I think half the fun of golf is the social interaction as well

this thread is rather shocking to me.........what, have none of you taken vacations with a gf or wife that doesn't play?  you going to pass up a round in Maui b/c you fear playing by yourself?

how about the random opportunity to play on a Wednesday, when you are (ahem) working at home....going to sit home instead of playing on a beautiful 75 degree day b/c, you might run into a few aholes on the course

I could go on and on....but bottom line is....if you don't play alone on occasion, you don't enjoy golf

I goto the range by myself all the time. I have no problem going to the course alone but it is more fun to play with others if your in the mood to crack some brews

i have yet to play solo....wouldn't mind trying. come to think about it, i actually know different players who play on different days so it kinda works out for me playing 3-4x a week with different group of friends.

but on the days i practice at the range,  i go solo...

another factor clearly has to be that most everyone in here posting is under 30.......after that Bday see how many of your steady golf buddies are available "regularly"

I am 31 and that is right on the money.

By 25 it was just the few that still took it serious. Even today I wonder what happened to all the guys who used to show up and gamble on the reg.? Even the old guys that used to show do different things now.

I don't even play anymore because my circle has all pretty much quit playing due to getting burned out, jobs, wives, and kids.

And then there is Salty

i'm 31 and am the youngest of about 6 guys that golf 4/5/6 days a week. teachers, bartenders ... some people have jobs made for golf.

Sadly enough this sounds like me.  Used to have huge games now all are gone. Guys play for like a dollar a hole. Not even worth playin. I would rather go to the bar. 

When I was serious about golf I would go out alone to practice but never to actually play.

go to "practice" ... hang out around the putting green or range if the course has one ... let the pro shop know you're a single and tell them you'll be hanging around for a bit chipping and putting ... make the pro shop aware that you want "normal" golfer/s. not 50 year old broads. if someone comes ... great. if not just head out to the course and practice. chip around the greens hit a few balls into the greens. practice putting .. etc.

are you a member at a course? can get any type of action that you wanted to at my home course.

this is why being a member is good.

Yesterday before work got in 9 peacefull brought along my fly rod  and cast at a couple of swirls,didn't raise any fish but just the flowing rythmic act in the wee early morning nothing better then following the rythum with the golf swing best time to work on the mental game is alone.

some of the best golf I have ever played....round flies by, no waiting it seems. Just seem to get into a better flow of the game. Plus there have been times where I hooked up with someone I didn't know on the coarse, lots of times this can be a cool experience meeting new people, considering I live in FL, most of the time its a tourist from some other state.
