Remember when Covers was awesome?

I'm talkin a decade ago. Pretty sure the average time for members posting now is roughly a year. There are a few dinosuars around here that have aged with this site, but you dont see them very often.

You could curse and post links. Debate without getting thrown in the penalty box. Pop ups didnt come up every ten seconds. You were constantly being asked if you would like to purchase plays.

Still my favorite gambling site, dont get me wrong. Lots of good people and knowledge on here. Just too much focus has been taken away from what made this site amazing.

 

Just my ramble of the day.

Average time seems like a month or two anymore.....  NBA playoffs bring out the real creeps... place will calm down soon.

And a very good ramble at that !

I first found out about this site about 10 years ago when a columnist for the Boston Herald named I. M. Bettor wrote the NFL gambling piece every Friday ( called " By the Numbers " ). For several years he was money. He called Covers his favorite gamblers information location. Back then, you could find not only well reasoned selections by ultra-intelligent players, but also some of the finest looking women populating members' avatar space. You could click on links without having to type 25-30 symbols, and you never had so-called " moderators " selectively enforcing the rules with their own politically correct "interpretations" designed to antagonize those with opposing views.

Your ramble resonated with me because it seemed to identify many of the reasons the site used to be special.

Happens to everything Train. Not surprising.

I think the only thing that may be basically the same as when you were a kid, or at least 50% the same in spirit, is Disney World.

Everything else changes...mostly for the worse.

Some things you outgrow, but this site outgrew itself. It needed no embellishment or to become PC. This is a gambling website for (most likely) 99% males age 18-50. Women and cursing are no longer allowed, neither is arguing.

This site became kindergartencovers.com about 2 years ago.

No but I remember when Covers was repping Beted hard and then tried to disavow any connection when things went South and by south I mean .............................

Remember reading him in the Herald every week.

I also remember when Covers was awesome.  It's still pretty damn awesome...but not as great as it was back in the day.

In my eyes Covers has been taken over by "Fans".  Not as much good unbiased info.  Mostly fans betting blindly on their favorite teams because they are "due".

Yeah but they all go bust around week 6 then don't return till the bowl games.   Some of these NBA/MLB turds float around for 6 months

The humor factor has gone down by a multiple of about 10, unfortunately.  There were some awfully witty people who used to post in GD.

Just look at the Archives folder.  All the really good threads there were originally posted a LONG time ago.  

Commercialization always ends up winning in the end.

The Beted disaster was the beginning of the end. Covers promoted the sportsbook and so many of us lost money. Reassurances from some morons named Freedom and Lou that they would fight for the return of our funds.They abandoned ship while we waited for their help. Karma's a girl fellas, you'll get yours.
