I first found out about this site about 10 years ago when a columnist for the Boston Herald named I. M. Bettor wrote the NFL gambling piece every Friday ( called " By the Numbers " ). For several years he was money. He called Covers his favorite gamblers information location. Back then, you could find not only well reasoned selections by ultra-intelligent players, but also some of the finest looking women populating members' avatar space. You could click on links without having to type 25-30 symbols, and you never had so-called " moderators " selectively enforcing the rules with their own politically correct "interpretations" designed to antagonize those with opposing views.
Your ramble resonated with me because it seemed to identify many of the reasons the site used to be special.
No doubt. I have been boxed twice by a certain Barney Fife (cough WSC cough)of covers for saying things he disagrees with. I will likely get boxed for even mentioning it.
Covers was so much better when it was self regulated.

The Beted disaster was the beginning of the end. Covers promoted the sportsbook and so many of us lost money. Reassurances from some morons named Freedom and Lou that they would fight for the return of our funds. They abandoned ship while we waited for their help. Karma's a girl fellas, you'll get yours.
Its been a good ten to twelve years ago when the site was in its prime. Now you come and there is like three ads on a page. They sold the site out to the sportsbooks advertising. Then you had a period in time when the mods were putting winning cappers in the penalty box. Seaweed being one. He got hot and was winning a bunch so they boxed him. They did it to more than won. If you were writing posts and winning games they put you in the box that didn't help the site either.

Mods putting people on the box for winning is such bullshite. You have no f'ing idea what you are talking about. If we didn't want them here they would be axed. You tout or act like a jackas(s) you are put in the box and that's it.
The rest of the stuff, yeah I had a problem with it also and let it be known publicly and behind closed doors.

I'm talkin a decade ago. Pretty sure the average time for members posting now is roughly a year. There are a few dinosuars around here that have aged with this site, but you dont see them very often. You could curse and post links. Debate without getting thrown in the penalty box. Pop ups didnt come up every ten seconds. You were constantly being asked if you would like to purchase plays. Still my favorite gambling site, dont get me wrong. Lots of good people and knowledge on here. Just too much focus has been taken away from what made this site amazing.
Just my ramble of the day.

I used to go on the IM Bettor radio show with Captain Jack and IM. Loved those guys. I lost track of IM though when Capt Jack passed away. Do you know whatever happened to him?

I don't know how it was back then, but I think this whole thing about censure is cr*p! Like he said, we can 't even debate without getting suspended or smth.

What was that other gambling site that Covers pushed so hard? had that girl as a rep from their gambling site on Covers, Lou always said he visited their place in Puerto Rico and were top notch...dang, can't remember that gambling site. He was always saying how honest and solid they were.
Needless to say, they weren't around long.

for the most part this is a good forum, if you need to see why censorship is needed, by all means see what became of the rest. google this handle and understand why sometimes restaint is needed.
guess we'all forget this is their dime their time. we participate but someone needs to keep the computer going , the contests accounted for the space for us bloggers able to vent yes at times and give our own insight. so where it is their "play pen" they pay for with time material and salaries. It reflexs their interests , being able to bet on games with a good perception of who will win any game any match...ect
outside of this some modshave revealed they like a good debate, while others say that this topic is for... others challenge generalities to specifics, one called me out to state sources, i believe so he/she could read the same article and decide for themselves.

Who would've thought that gamblers would like to cuss and see pictures of scantily dressed women.
This place was awesome, now...not so much. Don't get me wrong, as far as the info gathering is still great, but the comradery is gone, for most.
Was always nice to have a place online like this to go "Shoot the Dirt"
Speaking of this; remember that one member who would create those daily threads with pics of all those hot girls? I forgot his name but that guy was great. Of course, he got banned.

-- It was never "awesome" Some of you guys are falling into the "back in the good ole days" nostalgia trap.
-- The message board format isn't what it was 10 years ago. Superior platforms like Twitter, Facebook and Reddit have grown immensely since then. Also, there are more message boards anyway. So any good discussion is spread out over for more boards.
-- Finally, for better or worse, the world is a lot more PC. Back in 2006, people could take criticism. Now if you disagree with someone's pick, you are automatically labeled a "troll". So a lot of threads end up become bickering fests between "sheep" and "trolls".
Just my thoughts.
