wow, helluva post.  I need to listen to this.  I am the world's worst gambler, but if I was honest with myself, while I've had a ton of bad beats, I've had plenty of suckouts as well. 

 

 I'm ready to quit as well.  Not quite your age, but a little over than the OP.

 

Wish I had never gotten into this, but now I just want to win my money back, don't think it's possible.

Gonna be tough to get a loan if you don't have the right credit. Depending on what the interest is you may pay another 1k on it in interest alone? Do you have any buddies that have cash saved up you can borrow from and pay them $500 on top? If you ever get out of it, do it recreationally. I am 28 lose all the time but do it with in my means. One thing that has kept my behind from going over board is betting online. I only bet what I can manager to lose because I need to deposit the money up front instead of rattling off a number to a bookie that I don't have. GL BUD!!!
Ok, this is my last bet ever . . .

Villemure30 saved me the time of posting and offered good advice.  I would only add that if you compulsiveness is to the point that you've lost control then you'll need a support group.  The only way to get that is to come clean to family and your closest friends, and possibly go to GA meetings.  Don't try to BS your way out of this, or you'll just wind-up trying to chase and play catch-up.  

If you've ever promised yourself that you're not going to bet that day, and then you wind-up doing it just to "chip away" at your debt and win it back, then that's a sign of a compulsive gambler losing control. (Like a drunk promising that he won't drink and can't figure out why he's at the tavern again).  That's probably what you did and how you wound up with so much debt.  The fact that your debt is that high and causing distress, and that you're still in college is a red flag.

I play the covers contests just to remind myself how bad of a handicapper I am.

Im 8-18 in bowls 

That would have been real money

I bet some of those games, am down....
But less than $1000 instead of where it would have been because I would have xhased and been firing $1000-2000-2500 @the games by now

5K isn't that much. Freeze your account asap. Sounds like you go through a local... freeze your account. Make a payment plan.... of course he's gonna smoke you on the juice since you can't pay up front. BUT DONT TAKE THE FECKIN LOAN OUT. As long as you keep coming in with payments..... he wont give a shiit.... he just wants his money.

WHY? Because you will bet with the loan money.

OK, you and other gamblers should listen up on this.  YOUR BOOKIE wants his money.  If you ignore him, who knows what will happen.  Man up, tell him you can make payments and pay him off.  DO NOT gamble till it is paid off.  This will show respect and self control.  If you want to piss him off and be hurt in the process, go ahead and ignore him and not pay him.

The fact that you are humble enough to ask for advice is a good sign.  Stay away until you're in the clear and don't gamble more than you can lose.  Read articles on BR management and sports betting tips while you get yourself back on your feet.

Do it...and never look back.  Like you said...good girl, school, etc.  Stick with those things and move on.  You'll waste a great portion of your life if you stick to gambling.  Figure out a way to pay off the debt and enjoy the rest of your life without this stress.

This thread is kinda funny though....

Everyone keeps telling the kid to quit betting but look at all of us degens in this thread. Feckin guys talkin about killin themsevles and framing a bullet that got jammed LMAO.... riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. But look at all of us..... still here betting the tiltiest sport of them all..... Football lmao. One thing we all have is big EGOs. If you can set your EGO aside... it will let you think with a level head. Let that money go.

One thing I can tell is you'll be back sooner than later. They all come back. .

A lot easier said than done... But get the discipline to manage your money properly. Dont go for the big hit. They want you to parlay, to tease, to bet EXTRA "units" cuz its a "lock". They want you to drink, to not know what time it is.  Everything is set up for you to get greedy and feed them money (casinos etc..). So get some discipline and accept the fact that you will lose. If you stay disciplined over the long run and make steady choices you might just do ok. It aint easy at all.... but its your choice.

And for feck sake dont take a loan..... thats the worst possible thing you can do in this spot.
