I am still underwater with CRDC and should have added.Hlad to see it firm up a bit. I have gone too deep with MDR and XTO to add much to anything.

 Took another bite out of the apple SKF and added DOG and TWM..What the hell. I think reality sinks in again when the earnings come in as they should,

Is it just me or are we hearing more people talking about buying commodities? I love commodities, but for some damn reason I keep losing my shirt in soy beans. Currently I have a spread of corn and a future for Dec 09 corn. What are most of the commodity guys in here doing?
Any real estate people in this thread?

Regarding SKF, some of the below goes into my constant riding the thing up, stepping off, letting it go back down whenever someone declares the financial mess has "hit bottom" and buying in again.Has worked repeatedly. Some time of course it will stop such a pattern.

Many people say we’ve seen the bottom for equities, and the financial sector in particular. Maybe in nominal terms. And maybe in the East and the developing world. But in America, in real, inflation-adjusted terms,we’d expect more of a selloff. The S&P is still selling for more than 18 times earnings; there is still plenty of room on the downside.

The financial sector looks particularly bad; there’s probably a lot more bad news coming. And since it was the big winner for the 25 years, it probably needs a bear market of at least 5 or 10 years. At the beginning of the boom in finance, which began roughly during the first Reagan Administration, people still wanted their children to grow up to be doctors, lawyers and businessmen. At the end of it, every mother’s son was
encouraged to into ‘finance.’

But now, the bubble in finance is over. It will probably take many years before values appear and prices begin to rise – just look at what has happened in the NASDAQ. Or look at our favorite example – Japan. Many people thought Japanese stocks were a once-in-a-lifetime bargain after the
Nikkei Dow crashed in 1990. Well, they’re an even bigger bargain today!

Anyone else think that PTRY has been oversold at this point?  From what I've read they seriously fubar'd their attempt at hedging and I guess their gasoline margins were fairly tight as well, but their in store sales seemed to be in line with previous quarters.

It's down about 50% for the week

 SKF bouncing up again off the 100 number and here we go again.I think GEs report will boost this inverse fund of financials.

Financials arent getting hit that bad but the GE news will probably being more selling in the general markets as it seems to be a barometer for how the US economy is going. I dont agree with it but that seems to be the case.

Market might be down 300 by the finish, wouldnt shock me one bit.

Wow, that PTRY looks ugly..margins are a total joke..they do 6B in revenues and have margins at less than 1%?

Their cash to debt ratio is horrible.. 57M in cash to 1.2B in debt, smells like a BK candidate to me.

On that note I was in the mall and walked by a Sharper Image and they were shutting down the store, everything 30-50% off. They had a SpiderMan pinball game for 30% off..still expensive at like 3100 bucks though.

 Up 12 bux from th century price. I'll take it in this market.

 Sharper Image kind of an apt symbol.Overpriced, unnecessary junk that no doubt many a maxed out credit card supported for a while.

 By the way, I wonder if Obama asked Soros to keep his distance from his campaign.Not sure, especially since he seems at ease with the loony tune minister around him.

 Oh well. Gotta admit I think Soros right, but since when is having a recession NOT typical of an economic cycle?

Incidentally, for anyone else who uses Scottrade....it seems like they have a new deposit policy for their MoneyDirect.  It used to take 3-4 days to credit, now it seems to be instant.  I was rather surprised.

“If the former first lady feels so strongly that she should pay more taxes, we suggest she lay off the middle class and instead write a personal check to the U.S. Treasury for the difference between the Clinton and Bush tax rates."

It’s time Senator Clinton and other high-profile liberals like Senators Hillary Clinton (NY) and Barack Obama (IL), Warren Buffett, and Barbra Streisand who have publicly stated that Americans should pay more taxes, to put their money where their mouth is.

Are you serious about Scottrade? If they had instant (next day) deposit and WD that would be sweet. I have to hoof it 25 min to my local branch and it is a pain, I will check it out.

Here are some longer term names that SHOULD hang in and maybe even make you 20% or so longer term-

AMAT (cloaked solar company)
BRCM
HANS
WFMI
DRYS
VLO (45 as an entry?)
GE (gulp but an over 3% div yield)
RMBS under 20
JNPR under 20
CSCO

Notice I didnt put INTC on the list, the risk/reward just isnt there for me.

I bought more IMB today, even though I said I would not, did you read the www.imbreport.com ...... seemed positive on some notes and negative on others.

I liked that they collateralized that debt, it strongly improved their balance sheet and I think they have enough cash to handle things for a very long time.

What is your view?

I like that most of march's loans can be sold to fannie/freddie, and credit improving on loans. Like that the reverse mortgage production up from last month (i think this is quite profitable)  I also like all of the insider buying this year which seems like at least they believe in themselves.  Some of the things I'm not too sure about is that march production was down but there are many factors involved in that.  they say they continue to look for more deals to clean balance sheet and bring in capital....seems like a good plan they have overall for the company its just a matter of executing.  

I should probably know this but it seems to me that a lot of profits could be made if they can hold as many of the high fico score loans with high interest rates and that cant be resold.  Seems that these would be most profitable....but then again it comes back to being able to afford to hold these.  Also, with it seems that many of the loans even if foreclosed on and do not have alot of equity would still have some property value.

too many questions, random thoughts and alot of rambling i know....
