I really want to take a shot at LEH here for a trade, but these 10,000+ blocks being dumped is not a good sign.

LEH reminds me of a stock I got crushed on..IMB the way it is trading.

Tomorrow I will buy MORE DITM options on DRYS.

This maniacal selling will end soon and I am willing to take the risk to put more money to work here.

Wow..just looked at my screen-

VLO down 11%, DPTR to a year low, ENER down 12%, FSLR breaking 200. JRCC, JOYG, RIO, CNQ..commodity stocks getting CRUSHED. I wont even mention bulkers..new lows for many in the group.

Tomorrow on the open if they drop is buy time.

LEH is miserable.  they should shut that place down, for sure.

LEH should just go private...should have done it 6 months ago

today's trading shows the world that after the fnm/fre  bailout, there's no more use for WM and they are expendable...LEH also provided there's no counterparty risk

judge - i figure august was the big dip for SUV prices with the oil spike. we'll see. not much i can do about it now

One other comment..

The last week or so is 2002 style selling..exactly the same, heavy dumping and everything being thrown out.

Wow..

Pretty nasty close.

Someone dumped 12k of CRDC at the market with one minute left of trading and crushed the stock 70 cents in one minute, then it bounced back 30 cents.

You see the massacre across the entire universe this month?

DRYS near a 52 week low but MOST of the bulkers have been making lows the last two weeks.

Fine with me, I am tossing more on at these prices.

  DRYS has gotten slaughtered and another holding of mine  CF took a serious bath today (-12.5%). Truly wretched day for some holdings.

  Not to be bleak, but I think we will continue to see ever worsening conditions for the US (no matter who wins in November),  conditions that will make the absurd academic debate of "is this is a recession?" a very, very, moot point.The question will be, is it a Depression?

  The chickens have come home to roost for the US.This country is drowning in debt, It was a hell of a country at one point, but the booboisie is done..But stupidity is very expensive.So is corruption.

  The one very interesting thing to be revealed from the desperate takeover over Freddie and Fannie will be the ability to see who was on the receiving end of  their "lobbying" expenses.A shorter, more readable list, will be the list of who was NOT paid off. The WSJ editorial on Barney Frank was devastatingly accurate.What a fool he is, and always has been.

Bank America (BAC) is going to be the darling bank all the fundies will want to own, if they want any financial exposure.
 
On this end, want nothing "long term" but I'll "trade" anything to make a quick buck.
 
Yeah, peeps are stupid.  What else can you say about the SUV deal?  Koaj, you ripped them.  Well done.
 
Seriously, what is the chance that there will be ANOTHER bailout package put together for some piece of crap company that the taxpayers will have to fund?

10 minutes into the day and LEH has already traded almost 50% of its avg daily volume. 

Its avg daily volume today is 5 million more shares then it was yesterday, after yesterdays 350 million+ share day.

WM in trouble, market popped FAST, went up 100 on the DOW in like 15 minutes after going red.

CC, I think JPM is the safest bank, BAC owns CFC which will take years to unwind. I would prefer JPM or C or PNC etc over BAC myself.

Would anyone buy out LEH at this point?  Market cap is at $5 billion, why not buy it out and take it private for, $10 billlion, maybe $15 billion?  Or is Fuld really that stubborn that he will drive LEH into the ground before selling at a price like that?

Yeah I've seen in Wallstreet.  Saw DRYS bounced today which I expected.  Of course it does not make up for the carnage of the last week.  I'm in no hurry with that stock or most of my holdings.  Thinking long term . . . which is hard for me but I'm giving it the old college try.

Do you think George would ever consider buying back at these prices?  I mean we are trading at 2.5 PE (including ship sales) right now . . . that is ludicrous!  I mean what else is he going to do with all of this cash?  He could take one quarters worth of earnings and reduce the float by 12%.  I realize he would never do this . . . but I'm interested to know what you think the cash would be used for.

No and I dont want him to.

George isnt a trader and he doesnt bow to the pressures of the market..in fact he really despises how the market is computer program generated system trading.

He should and will use the cash to pay down debt and expand the fleet. If he keeps buying ships and gets fair value on the purchase, that is putting the cash to better use ROR wise to me. I dont want him to act defensively and in the short term. I think he knows the value of the assets and he knows how to increase shareholder value in the long term.

I would also sell most of my holdings if he bought one of the other stocks in the group with the cash...terrible idea floated around and I would not approve.

Keep buying assets, increasing the fleet and paying down debt..that is what he should do.

One other thing..he isnt a share seller..the only reason he sold shares this and last year was to get the cash necessary to get the OR assets, I like that quite a bit.  

The BDI has been slaughtered..just a total joke and it will pop back, I didnt get any options or shares today..had an order in for some Jan 10 50 calls but the market went up into the afternoon..
