No way mid market teams can compete in free agency. There are only 4-5 teams that can compete for the big name players with this type of money being thrown around. Most teams hope to get a few good years out of their young players (aka Lindor in Cleveland) and then trade them for 3-4 young minor leaguers and hope to find a few gems. Always nice to see the big spenders go down in flames

San Francisco is moving their bullpen from foul territory to outside of the walls. They have also shortened the center field wall from 399 to 391. Of course this in conjuncture with moving the bullpens.
Kind of a pitcher's park, will that change much this year?
The Cubs are talking to Dallas Kuechel. They just refuse to get young in the pitching department, but they don't have much choice when they have zero prospects in the pipeline.
Did you know?
54 of the Cubs 84 wins were credited to pitchers 30 years or older. The average age of these guys was 33 years old. In essence, 64% of their wins were by 33 year old pitchers.
17 wins were by 3 guys who were 29 years old. Montgomery is gone, Hendricks and Chatwood will turn 30 this year.
What will Theo do if the things aren't going well?

There's a lot going on so far in 2020.

Having all old pitchers doesn't sound very moneyball sabermetric value-seeking to me by Theo, lolol, huh ?

Although, as counterexamples, Tampa Bay, Oakland, and Milwaukee have done well recently !
But, you have some good points of course !
Tampa Bay, to me, is the most incredible, in the face of such lack of local fan support overall.....

Thanks Sac, good points about SF ballpark ! Something to keep in mind on totals betting early in the season before 2020 results have started to kick in after a month or so........

Kluber was acquired from the Indians on Sunday for outfielder Delino DeShields and reliever Emmanuel Clase. Damn, this doesn't make a lot of sense, but this one is totally from left field:
Bumgarner to #Dbacks, five years, $85M, $15M deferred.
So Madbum decided to call it a career early, well at least he is starting his retirement at 30. I know he has struggled in the last couple of years, but not even go to a contender seems weird, although Arizona is actually the perfect fit, dirt bikes galore for him...

Finally Mad bum is getting paid...Probably lost out on $100 million by singing a team friendly contract early in his career in 2012...Imagine what he would have gotten after the 2015 WS....

Interesting, the Rangers with a brand new park(who knows how it plays) acquire Kluber, Gibson and Lyles. Hopefully it's a pitchers park for their sake.
Kluber broke his arm last year, then injured his oblique in a rehab start which shelved him for the year. He's 33.
Madbum is in the desert...
Great hot stove year thus far, and we're still in December.

The Indians trading Kluber is a salary dump. Also a lot of questions surrounding Klubers' health after last year. The Indians hope to use Clase as a possible closer down the road since they may get rid of Hand as a salary dump also. The Indians still have a starting rotation of Clevinger. Bieber, Plutko' Plesac, and Carrasco so the cupboard isn't bare. Unfortunately this is the way teams have to operate that are not named Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, etc. I look for them to hang onto Lindor now this season but still they will need to say good bye to him after this season or near the trading deadline if their season goes nowhere this year. Still I look for the Indians to contend in the NL Central again this season.

Miley will be reunited with his former pitching coach Derek Johnson. Wade Miley played for the Brewers for 16 games back in 2018 when Johnson was in the Milwaukee dugout. Miley went 5-2 with 2.57 ERA in 80.2 innings of work that season. That success helped land Miley a deal with Astros last season where he went 14-6 with a 3.98 ERA.
I nearly forgot about this. Dereck Johnson was the guy that convinced Miley to throw his cutter more often. He virtually became a new pitcher at that point.
With Trevor Bauer and DeSclafani, the Reds rotation is set, and it's not even Christmas yet. I see my long shot underdog darling for the year...we will see if this starting 5 can stay healthy.

Big change to the MLB's drug testing policy. They have REMOVED marijuana, and added certain opioids. This doesn't look like a move involving performance enhancement drugs, but rather considering players health and well being. Ala Tyler Skaggs RIP.
Pardon me sac, but I don't see anything there but "Let's go along with the current fashion trend". They could discuss this in the pages of Cosmopolitan or Redbook, you know, same as "are hemlines going up or down?" and "what's in this year, chic or slovenly?"
Marijuana is in, opioids are out, that's the current fashion, end of story. The health and well being of the players has nothing to do with it, since you can make an argument for/against for either drug.
Now and then even a BLIND squirrel can find an acorn

The Angels sign Julio Tehran. 50/50 gb to fb guy. SunTrust park in ATL is the 3rd highest elevation park, not the best place in heat and humidity for pitchers.
The west coast pitcher's park in Anaheim should help some.
Joe Maddon likes aging pitchers like his wine.
The White Sox sign rubber arm lefty Gio Gonzalez.

Hot Stove comes to Ohio when the Reds acquire Mike Moustakas. Pretty steep price in my opinion but the Reds are trying to get out of the NL Central basement and they opened up the purse strings which the Reds don't do often to get him.
Big question here in Ohio is what will the Tribe do with Lindor??
Look no further than in state CJ...it looks like the Reds are interested in Lindor, they are talking.
They are hitting free agency hard since hiring David Bell.
