Mets Robinson Cano suspended for the entire season for ped's.
I meant FOREVER, Key. If not Curt Flood, Gil Hodges, Don Newcomb, Maury Wills, Ken Boyer...and on and on ....What’s the point of inducting these frauds that are currently being considered and the future groups of frauds down the road?

Well, LC, Andy Pettitte got my vote and he was no fraud. Maybe we could add pitchers only, since they are the ones that got screwed. No more 300 win careers or 30 win seasons (McLain 1968). No more staffs with 3, much less 4, twenty game winners (Orioles 1971). I almost (but not quite) feel sorry enough for Clemens to give him a vote.

As I remember it, Key, Pettitte admitted using PEDs, but CLAIMED it was only a few times. I guess his best shot is to convince the voters that he’s telling the truth. I don’t buy it for one second. Once you experience the benefits that they provide, like extending your career, you’re hooked.....My view has always been, if you’re naturally talented enough, why would you need them? If you used them, you used them. It shouldn’t matter how many times.

Rose never threw a game. He bet on himself. That's why he played like an animal.

Barney, google up Wellington Mara. He was the genius 30, 40 years ago that said REVENUE SHARING was the only way to keep the league competitive. And, he was right. The NFL was faced with having one huge national television contract or dozens of individual contracts (where MLB is now), and if they did not go national contract with revenue sharing, teams like the Giants (his) would have 10X the revenue of a team like the Packers, creating huge imbalance and a non-competitive league. That is exactly where MLB finds itself, with the Dodgers and Yankees multi billion dollar TV contracts and markets like Kansas City and Cincinnati struggling to make minimal payroll.
Whether they like it or not the MLB is a socialism; you are actually dependent on your competition for attractiveness and revenue. If five or six teams constantly dominate the playoffs and championships it is actually bad for the game and the MLB. Player caps or team caps will not achieve competitive balance. The NFL owes its domineering position to Wellington Mara, simply because he was an owner with a high revenue team and huge market that realized how important competitive balance was. He created a monster.

I don't really have anything to say today; already did that in the Politics Forum, but I believe this thread belongs on the top of the board all winter, so this contribution is just a bump.

I have been seeing NBA players getting signed by new teams for erroneous amounts of money. Like 60 million dollar contracts. And I have no clue who they are. That league imo sucks to all hell. How are they producing such big contracts for average guys who don't have to play defense this day in age?
I know,

20 years ago sac I won 5K in an NBA handicapping contest. Today I don't touch the game. It is just exchange buckets until the last ten minutes and then we will play to win and see what happens. Pro wrestling really. Put on a good show and the fans will be satisfied. I remember Larry Johnson being a defensive monster at UNLV, then a scoring machine in the NBA. When asked about it he said "The guys that score points get all the money, end of story."

They could play the NBA Final in my back yard and I’d draw the drapes. Players now can start at mid court and drive in for a slam without ever putting the ball on the hardwood and somehow that’s not traveling. The last time I watched an NBA game, it was Bird vs. Magic in the Finals.

At some point in the late 2000's or so, traveling all of a sudden became the "Euro Step". Conveniently, no one ever heard of the euro step before this point.

I tried doing the "Euro Step" once but some of the French guys started to give me a funny wink and smile. Did not pursue that any further.
