Aaron Hill has been outstanding

Johnny Damon, Trevor Hoffman, and Raul Ibanez have "gotten young again."  Who would have taken Ibanez and Damon to be leading their respective teams in homers, Batting Average, AND On Base percentage considering the rest of the guys in those offenses


Regardless, almost everyone mentioned in this thread is valid. . . It's been quite a fun and surprising year so far

Forgot about Francisco. Too bad he just went on the DL though.

Millwood is also a surprise. 2.93 ERA with half of his games being played in Arlington where he is actually pitching better there.

Martis has been pitching pretty well but he has also gotten tons of run support. 6.4 runs per game in 7 games. Thats not bad. But aside from giving up that 7 spot against Philly, he's been pretty good.

Yeah, if we're going the other way, never in my right mind thought Manny would be doing a 50 game suspension for getting into dumb shit, and David Ortiz's slump is as bad as it gets.

Nats offense gives everyone run support - 5 runs or more last 8 games, 1-7 record.  That's how bad the pitching is, specifically the bullpen.  I think Beimel, Well, and Colome owe me at lest 10 units.

Good call on Millwood too Sparky, he's been as consistent as anyone could have asked for.  Even in the losses, he's pitched well, and hasn't give up more than 5 all year.  With that offense behind him, he could really have a great year if he keeps it going

I expected Hill to be good. Just didn't expect him to be THIS good. And for him to do it immediately following the bizarre details of his concussion is remarkable.

(For those who don't know, Hill collided with David Eckstein on a play in late May 2008. He was cleared to do light workouts a week later, but said he was feeling tired and "heavy headed". He sat out the rest of the season).

If anyone saw how he started the game-ending DP in today's game, you'll understand when I speak of his amazing fielding ability too.

The Jays better not let this guy go when his contract is up.

You think Toronto will let him go? I highly doubt it unless hes asking for more than 10/mil per year. The only reason why the Jays let go of Orlando Hudson was to give Aaron Hill a chance to play 2nd. As well, because he was black. I know it sounds stupid because of the hiring of Cito Gaston and all. Ultimately, it was Paul Godfrey decision and he isnt part of the organization anymore. But with the local media and radio stations, you can get the vibe that they dont want black players. As evidence, name more than 3 black current blue jays on the roster. Every blue jays hitter should thank and credit Cito Gaston for the improve hitting. He should win manager of the year.

What?  A professional sports team trying to rid itself of black players in this day and age? And what kind of evidence is that?  Who gives a shit how many black players we have on our team?!  If they can play baseball, that's the most important matter.

Although I may be lambasted for stating such regarding the dearth of black players on certain professional teams, I must cite the Utah Jazz as being the archetype of a "white-washed" professional team. I will bet my left nut that this organization consciously tries to avoid getting black players and when they do, they are usually lighter-skinned blacks i.e. Deron Williams, Carlos Boozer. When they had Malone, he was the only black guy on the team. This may be a result of black players not wanting to play in Utah what with their racist values and all. Everyone knows that if they had 12 white boys on their team like Harpring or Korver, they'd perennially come in last place in the NBA, so what they do is get European whites and light-skinned blacks to round out their roster, i.e. Kirilenko, Okur, and the aforementioned Boozer and Williams. I don't think anyone can say this is not true to some extent and wear a straight face.

For the most surprising players thus far in the MLB Season: Greinke (who would have guessed this guy would be putting up Cy Young type numbers), Zimmerman (one of the lone bright spots on an otherwise hapless team), Ibanez (I never fathomed him to be an offensive centerpiece-type putting up Triple Crown calibre stats), Kinsler ( he was good but THIS good?), and others...

Spanish refers to Spaniards, from Spain. Otherwise, you are classifying these players by what language they speak and the correct word for that is Hispanic, not Spanish. By your logic then, most everyone in the MLB is English and we know Englishmen can't play baseball. Rios and Bautista are Hispanic Blacks, like Dominicans a la Vladimir Guerrero, David Ortiz, etc.
