Not only are they most likely the best band from Canada, they probably are the best 3-man band too...I mean really, if you've seen Neil Peart in action, then you know what I'm talking about Willis.


I've seen em only twice myself, but I've tried to make up for it with multiple boots from almost every tour - cept for CoS.

I guess Alex & Ged were big on the show and Alex asked if he could maybe make a cameo. They said F that, we'll write a whole episode around him. It was funny as shit! You never heard Bubbles cuss so bad when he couldn't get his Rush tickets!

Not even a mention of Joni Mitchell? C'mon, I can't be the only old fart here - lol. Liked some of Lightfoot's stuff in older days & The Guess Who were OK (though pretty mediocre compared to other stuff out at the time), but always thought Neil & Joni were the largest overall talents to ever come outa Canada. Neil, an icon in his own right & Joni was prob as good a writer as Dylan & better musician. Definitely the most influential female songwriter in the last 40 yrs -

You're not the only old fart, trust me. The question posed was in regards to the Greatest Canadian BAND, which rules out Joni, Neil & Gordon for this discussion and more fitting for the Greatest Canadian Singer/Songwriter thread.

Yeah, kinda forgot about "Band" bein in the topic as I was reading thru the posts & saw some individuals bein mentioned like Neil & Lightfoot. Course Joni had some good back-up bands (Tom Scott & the LA Express, etc) & played with some jazz greats in her jazzer days, but was definitely mostly an entity unto herself. One of a kind & never really seen anything like her since -

Tom Scott, now we're talkin'. Tom Cat was a great album, but man he sucked after that. A lot of promise but couldn't deliver in the long run.

Triumph follows in the 2nd slot. Rik Emmett is, along with Eddie Van Halen and Steve Morse, the most talented guitarists in the last 30 years.  Triumph's concerts, though filled with a lot of pyros & audience interaction, were dissappointing. 10 songs played in a hour and a half. Drummer Gil Moore wanted more bombastics placed on the show instead of showcasing Rik's killer playing, and eventually paid the price by the the band breaking up in the late 80's, and Rik saying fuck you Gil.
 
The Guess Who are next. No Sugar Tonight by itself puts them in the top three. Randy Bachman & Burton Cummings, great writing duo.  April Wine's songs kinda blended together without much substance. I'd give Loverboy the 4th spot based on their first two solid albums (Loverboy & Get Lucky). Saw them in '81 in Oakland at Day on the Green along with Blue Oyster Cult, Heart, Ozzy w/ Randy, & Pat Travers. Good times!

Yes I would agree. Maybe even put The Guess Who second. Although certainly not the best, I like some of Tea Party's music. Not many people outside of Canada have heard of them though. They opened for Ozzy years back or I wouldn't have known of them myself.
