Absolutely correct Kodiak, most of the previous bands are / were definitely more successful.  My musical taste though usually differs from common opinion. 

Depends what kind of music you like, I'd suggest downloading a couple of songs from some of the bands I mentioned and see what you think.

Not terribly into Rush and some of the others, but.......modern day:
 
1. The Arcade Fire
2. Wolf Parade
3. The New Pornographers
 
"Funeral" by The Arcade Fire is the best rock album i've heard this millenium, geography aside.

theyre by no means my fave band, even as far as canadian bands gotta like bryan adams and the hip, blue rodeo though.....so good

I believe Foreigner were Canadians...
 
Their stuff in the 70's /80's was solid imo..

You Canadians ffrom the TO area, especially Rush fans might remember Max Webster.

Rush collaborated with them on a pretty cool strong tune called "Battlescar".
 
Not saying Max Webster ranks way up there, but I liked them back in high school. Still have some stuff of theirs on my Pod.
