so Mr. Bator i guess this is the whole ideal situation we had correct? Spurs losing game 6 and now unloading in game 7? i still like the spurs to win the championship so i am still sticking with my gut. they should have had that game yesterday but something magical happened with the heat in that one. i HIGHLY doubt they will have that magic again in back to back games. as you can see spurs play complete basketball and i guarantee you POP will not let game 7 slip away
Alas, Game 7 has already slipped away.

The bottom line with the Manu non-call is that no ref is going to take the chance of making the wrong call that dethrones a reigning champ. The only way any Spurs player in that situation (down by 1 with a chance to bury the Heat) was going to draw a whistle was if the foul was so obvious and violent that nobody would second guess the call after watching it on replay. Anything short of that, and no one's blowing the whistle. No ref is taking that chance of being the one who accidentally screwed LeBron out of a ring. That's the way officiating goes down in the biggest of moments, and it's not only in basketball.

I still like my comparison to the Red Sox falling apart in 1986, but okay, if you want to reason that the Spurs were the victim of a bad call or non-call, then we can also compare last night's paralyzing defeat to the St. Louis Cardinals' loss in Game 6 of the 1985 World Series in Kansas City, when Don Denkinger badly blew a call at first base which denied the Cardinals their rightful Series victory. The next night, with their hearts still ripped out of their chests, the Cardinals lost Game 7, 11-0.
That's a more appropriate comparison.

I got carried away hammering the 2nd half -8 and then again slamming the Heat at +6 when they were down 10 or so going into the 4th quarter. I consider that my lucky break for the year as if the Heat lost I would've blown all of the seasons profits in 1 half of basketball. I had the sick feeling in my stomach as Leonard was going to the line up 4 with 28 seconds left knowing that not only was my 2nd half bet toast, but my live bet was going to lose more than likely as well. Can't believe what i saw but ill take it as now are Heat series bets look almost certain.
On to today anything catching your eye on the diamond? My initialleans were Reds RL and maybe the Muts.

Well I won't accept that and no one should as someone who invests several days (in the aggregate for all hours of all games) of their lives watching these games which translates into billions in TV revenue for the league.
Essentially what you are saying there is you can't drive because if you get mauled (Manu did get mauled by a top 5 worst defender in the league) they won't blow the whistle at home on LBJ and crew.
The next illogical step is to say that you have to shoot a jumper from out yonder because if the defender hits you they won't call it (they didn't on the Green play as he was hip checked out of bounds).
So here we have it with this thinking when it comes to the refs. Just grin and bear it , when the game is on the line, the away team must shoot a half court shot or have Big John Studd shoot their shot down low so players will bounce off him even if they hack the hell out of him.
This is not basketball and this was the only reason I didn't unload on the moneyline last night and I keep pounding and will continue to pound the series bet on SA. I knew the refs would be there in the final moments. They were. The Spurs still have one more chance and it is a better one than Texas or the Cards or the Sox had. None of those teams have the pedigree or the coaches or stars this team has in relative comparison.
I may never bet another game 6 again if a big home favorite comes home down 3-2. What's the point?
There will be justice.
Sweet Jesus, the Spurs will make this wrong a right if it kills me.

Mets example much more appropriate. As noted the st louis example was clear error by ump. In Last night game there is no way no how those plays should have been called fouls based on the end of game situation and the way the game had been called. The refs were not calling fouls when the off player attempted to initiate contact when the drive was not open (see several lebron drives, a dwade drive, and parkers shot to end regulation). In that light, it is interesting how posters only offer there side of incidents. As a San Antonio series better, while i was heartbroken, trying to be objective i think they got the better of the reffing at least in second half. As we speak i am attemting to cancel my SA series bet based on 86 mets bosox.

Yeah, no way no how they could make those calls.
Keep your SA bet. You'll only be burning more money if you cancel it.

Sure they would. Refs have made late calls all the time without consequences. Was Bennett Salvatore fired for the awful call in G5 of the 2006 Finals that put Wade on the FT line with :01 left? No. He's even officiated several NBA Finals since then.

I just re-read that now. Even in the chaos of a packed Vegas sportsbook, I'm still pretty funny, and I stand by that sentiment I felt at halftime. I'm still not sure how the Heat are still alive.
That was funny.

scalibrine i always enjoy your posts and i know you know your bball but i have to disagree i dont think they shouldv called that foul because they had let them play all gm manu shouldv got a T on the throat chop to bron and bosh got ufc slammed and they didnt call it miller taking one to the nose was another one and im a philly fan so not saying my opinion because im a fan of the heat but i just thought he threw his head down and like he was running thru the line in a football gm was trying to get anything he could to happen and in my opinion it was a good no call plus maybe im wrong but dam it looked like he ran with that ball for what seemed like 4 steps lol but again just my opinion

I was happy to see you post no 2nd half Heat money and not give those bit ches any more opportunity for you to hate them more, then I seen your 2nd half Spurs play which went against your early great writeup and thought, that just might be the shakeup you need to finally break the curse. Crazy!
I was set for the 10 point Heat win then you going over the top of your series bet with Spurs in game 7, ML and points and you getting the last laugh. That would of been the best.
Now here we are and I say hedge and be done. Don't mess with curses. I have no clue right now but you know there is a good chance that if you leave that series bet all alone, the Spurs will win. Even I can't take that.
Good luck!

Man I can't believe you lost that 2nd half bet.

The only thing that made me feel any better after losing my SA 2nd half play, 2nd half under, full game under, was seeing those angry fans that left with 20 secs left when the heat were down 5. I'm sure they were about as pissed off as I was, and at the end we are only left to blame ourselves.

Nope! The ideal situation was for the Spurs to not go all-out for the clincher last night, but instead let the Heat have their fun by limiting Duncan, Parker, and Ginobili's minutes and quietly "throwing" the game, thus setting themselves up for what I truly believe would have been a very solid SU win on Thursday. Instead, the Spurs shot their load and in return got saddled with one of the most unbelievably painful and wrenching losses in the history of a league finals potential clinching game (and that includes baseball and hockey, too). In my opinion, the result of Game 7 is now a foregone conclusion. The despised Heat will win their second straight NBA title.
You thinking -6 or the moneyline?????

Watch the throat hit again.
Lebron moves into the elbow just as much as Manu throws it.
Manu is a flopper not a fighter. So let's not start saying he's one to throw elbows in games like this is Artest on Harden.
And I have no problem T'ing him up. But don't compare 1 or 2 points for a Tech and possession in an earlier quarter to two missed calls with 2 seconds left in the game.

The Spurs should've heeded my advice. Throw Game 6 and lock up Game 7. Now they've fuc.ked themselves in all likelihood.
You mean like the Celtics did in 2010 when they layed down in game 6 and let LA hammer them only to get screwed in game 7 by the refs allowing LA to shoot 21 fourth qtr free throws.. ?? That logic didn't work for the Celts.. I like that the spurs played balls to the wall, deep down Miami psyche has to be wondering and saying damnnn we are lucky what if what if, etc.. Where as If the Spurs got crushed in gm 6, Miami confidence would be sky high. The Spurs will win tomorrow night. Think of all the horrible performances by spurs players yesterday and how they still had the gm in Miami. Manu and Parker were very bad. Parker two late plays but sucked otherwise. Only Timmy and KL showed up.. Don't sleep on the Spurs.. The run of luck is over for Miami.
