That's correct, betting on sports is like betting on companies one way or another - and it's all a bad habit.
You said you lost probably $100,000 from gambling and you're fine with that ... if I were you I wouldn't be fine with that .... and it's not the money that I care about .... is having a different view about living life.
Life can be so much better without it ... addictions are drugs ... life with addictions is never a good life, at max it can be life with illusions, but I'd rather live in reality and not in a bubble.
Never said I was fine with it...but there's nothing that can be done about it now...lol....just gotta move on and get over it....it is what it is....I rather not think about it....I enjoy gambling....that's that...
Everyone has their own views on life...everyone has a different opinion....I rather not think about reality actually..because guess what...reality fkn blows the majority of the time.......even if you DON'T gamble...you are still gonna have some sort of addiction in life
Name me 1 person you know that
1) Doesnt gamble
2) Doesn't drink
3) Doesnt smoke cigarettes daily
4) Doesn't drink coffee or caffeine daily or most days
5) Doesn't do any drugs...or on ZERO medication..yes medication = DRUGS
....and many more...Gambling makes you feel good and satisfied when you win...some people like losing too as crazy as it sounds..because than it's a challenge to get it back the next day, weeks, etc.....
Anything someone likes and does it often and can't live without it...is an addiction....Everyone is "addicted" to something in one way, shape or form.....Can't change life...and that's life...
Maybe you need to just get over it....

1) I don't gamble anymore. 2) I do drink only on rare occassions, family events etc. 3) I don't smoke. 4) I don't drink coffee. 5) I don't do drugs, don't take medications thankfully.

Haha this is funny...this dude needs to go to Vegas to "help" instead of wasting his time here. Half the people here post plays they aren't even really betting just to look smart if it hits and when it blows up they create another account the next day!

Yet you still have a 100% chance of dying, just like the rest of us.
Let people live their lives and if they are not negatively impacting others around them, back off.
For a very select few, this is a career. For the rest of us, this is entertainment.

For the rest of you this is entertainment? That is the reason the thread is getting bigger with so many replies?
If gambling was a straightforward thing like shopping then it might have been entertainment, but losing money is not entertainment, no one likes to lose thousands of dollars or more than that.

Then you must be a squeegee man, cuz I've seen some of your picks, and they suck. Which is why you always troll those who win. Callin' you outttttttttt
Correct. And you were correct on betting on the superbowl winner as well (you read the script in full) - can I ask, Dribble, how do you find gambling in your life? You're more honest here than the rest of the clowns.

I have no idea if I'm up or not, I do it for fun and never bet what I dont have. I have money in a couple accts, cash out when I'm up and always leave enough in there. I've had some bad runs but also really good ones.
I am married, have 3 kids, coach their teams, and own my own business. If I don't have time in my day to look at the slate of games, bc of work or family obligations, then I don't play.
I'm not owned by it at all, merely a hobby that I enjoy.
I feel like your starting this thread and condemning people to try to convince yourself or make yourself feel better about stopping. If its not for you fine, but some people can do things within reason and moderation. You don't need to worry about them...

Don't flatter yourself, this is not a big thread. There was a thread about porn a few years ago with about a million page views, you have <2000.
Who are you to say gambling isn't entertainment? Some people will spend 1000s for tickets to the ballet, but you'd have to pay me 1000s to go.

My friends threw a SB party this past weekend and I was the only one who "bet" on the game. I lied and told them I bet $50 (had $200 on the game) on the Panthers straight up just because I didn't know how they'd react. Everyone was making jokes like "you're in too deep, damn that sucks that you lost that's why I don't gamble, etc.) Then I heard my girl tell her friend that she played "Boxes" at work. Her friend's response was "Meliiiii, I didn't know you gamble." My girlfriend then goes on and says "I don't know, I just picked random numbers." Her friend proceeds to tell her "I don't gamble" in a very ominous tone. It bothered me. I don't know why. Maybe it's the way she said it that almost implied that you are a terrible person if you do. What's the big deal? Everything in moderation right? I just don't understand the negative stigma.
Like Colin said - Sports gambling is here and we like it and it’s not ruining society. ‘But Colin, people get addicted!’ People get addicted to butter. Don’t blame the beer because you’re an alcoholic and don’t blame the bagel because you’re overweight. People have to be accountable for their own addictions.

Only a few might be honest with themselves but for many gambling is a destructive habit... yes, discussing which team will win and the lines as well is "fun" but it's also taking over your time, and so is gambling.
Not here to preach, just expressing my own experience ... been gambling for 15 years since I was 16, and can only be sorry for having my first bet.
Now got a child that was born recently, don't want him to get close to it ... no need to have it in life ... life can be so much better without gambling.
I'm sure your dad had it planned for you precisely for the sixteenth birthday - so you could place your first wager... Your agenda? Because if you had a kid just recently born - you'd be busy arguing with your wife who changes the diapers and who gets up at night. The last thing you'd have a time to do is coming in here and Swaggarting us. BS artist and not as smart... Or may be the gambling pornography is what you are all about... Screaming Gewalt when you see a naked woman but won't take your eyes from her....
Tell us, the public wants to know, why are you here? And don't tell me you're here to save some "lost" souls because the only one lost here is YOU

Look bro, I've gambled on sports pretty much every day the last 12 years or so...
I am 57...I make decent $ over six figures each year
I have been married for 20 years, have 2 daughters-putting the 2nd one through college this year
I have decent money saved between stocks, houses, enough to retire off...but here's the whole point:
I see guys play golf, buy boats, buy clothes, take expensive vacations-I don't do any of that-this is my $ for that and if I lose 5-6K a year, I don't give a flying crap...I could have easily spent it on that and at the end of the day, it's money gone. I get pleasure out it, and something to look forward to after a hard day of work.
My wife and kids rarely complain about it and if they do, I stop looking at my phone. I do stuff with them every weekend, watch TV with my wife most nights...It is possible IMO to handle this-you should promote this for some it could work.
Know what you can afford to lose for the year and bet accordingly-takes all the pressure off and believe me just like alcohol, after you drop your bets down, they still seem thrilling after a while.

Part of it is seeing opportunity and having solid reasoning to see a team have value vs. public perception...I hit a huge bet this week on the Lakers vs. Indiana-the line had to be too high because most people think the Lakers stills suck but they're getting better-it was a great spot...I try to see value but I understand I'll probably lose each year...It was worth the thrills when you get paid for ideas

Dr. John drinks heavily and, in the past, has abused various substances. In combination with gambling, it makes for a hell of a time. Some days I even forget that I can no longer afford my meds!
In summation, gambling has saved my life.

1) How long have you been gambling here? 1st of all you can't gamble here on Covers. I have been sport betting for right at 2 years.
2) Are you in profits?
NO! And don't let anyone fool you by saying they make a living off this because without proof i don't believe it! I have won huge bets and lost huge bets but in the end its a 50/50 business more like 49/51
3) Are you married / have children? If you do how do you cope with them as well as with your gambling?
No Engaged and yes this has been a problem. Yes 2 kids takes time from them too. Somehow i find a way to justify it. Lately i have stopped placing the bets myself and let a few of my boys do it for me. Seems to work better when i don't have access to the book myself.
4) Do you feel like you're in control of your gambling?
Now i am because i don't let it control me anymore. HOpe you got all the answers you were looking for.
What was the purpose of this study/consensus/survey?
