One athlete accumulating more championship rings does not necessarily make that athlete better than the next athlete.
For Example: Robert Horry has hit many clutch shots and has many championship rings, but I would take Kevin Garnett over Horry any day and that is during Horry's "prime -- Hay--Days"
Interesting that everyone talks about how great Kobe is, but ESPN just did a piece called MT RUSHMORE for the State of California...and with all of Kobe's acomplishments, he did not make the cut.
They even listed the person who I have said all along is better than Kobe.....and that is Magic Johnson. In my opinion, Kobe is not even the greatest Laker of all time, but yet everyone keeps wanting to elevate him to Michael Jordan status or conclude he's the badest etc..etc..etc....;
Through time, LBJ has the potential to approach what MJ and Magic accomplished..... Kobe has already had that time and he did not even make the MT RUSHMORE for the State of California.
FYI: MT RUSHMORE for California ended up being Magic Johnson, Tiger Woods, Jackie Robinson and John Wooden.
Kobe, the Williams sisters, SHAQ, Kareem, Pete Sampras, etc..etc... and many more all did not make the cut.
And althought this thread did not get into the ridiculous comparisons of Kobe to Michael Jordan --- the MT Rushmore (ESPN) piece is interesting validation/corroboration that Kobe while great is not really considered the greatest. Reminder: Jordan was voted the #1 athlete of the last 100 years.
Now, I do tend to agree with those that think Lebron has the potential to get there....of course, he is not there yet....but he does have the potential to get there. And maybe thats where all the confusion and debate starts.
using the criteria of hitting game winning shots and champiosnships are not the only criteria that makes you the greatest...but give LBJ time, I think we are watching LBJs greatness be compiled over a period of time.
I noticed that someone put up an interesting comment showing LBJs stats out of the gate from his rookie season to now ....and it does look impressive. I noticed that too!
I think when LBJ is done, barring injury, that his across the board stats will make us all thrust greatness upon him. I think he may score over 40,000 pts (my opinion only)...and that will be all while he dishes out an incredible amount of assists and grab an incredible amount of rebounds.....his final stats will be like a Wilt Chamberlain career stat card.

...was it a nice accomplishment? Yes. Would it have been as big of an accomplishment as if he had won the west? NOT EVEN CLOSE.
