I hate that I ever became a part of this thread. BB asked a question which to some seemed like a typical BB dramatic overreaction thread but really came about because he has lived in the Bay for years and was actually watching Steph at 22. I'm a diehard Warriors fan and really didn't miss games when Steph was 22. I went to a ton of games. Get off work, happy hour, Warriors are on. Go to my cousin's who had a bar in his basement, few rounds and a few blunts, the Warriors are on. Steph's my all-time favorite player. He transformed my shitty team and the entire league. I love the dude. I don't like Trae. I disliked him in college but he has gained my respect as a pro. I gave my unbiased opinion and in doing so contributed to a shit show. Look, Trae will never be the shooter Steph is. I don't think he will be the player Steph is when it is all said and done but at 22, Steph's rookie season, it's not even close. These dudes keep bring up shooting percentage like that's all there is to a point guard. Then they say, "well Steph wasn't a true point." which shows they didn't know dick about the Warriors back then. Make no mistake. Steph shared the ball with Monta but he was brought in to be the point. Monta is a two guard who had his best seasons playing with a true point (BD). Steph was brought in to be a jump shooting true point and everytime you say, "Well, he's not a true point." you're just proving me right. Trae will never shoot like Steph but his ability to make the correct basketball play get into the lane is next level. Not only that but i've met Steph more than once. He's a legit 6'3". Trae looks 5'11". Could you imagine if Trae was 6'3"? I love Steph. Trae will never be on Steph's level when it's all said and done but 22 yr old Trae shits on 22 yr old Steph.

@packersbackers The one thing I like about him is his competitiveness. But it’s also why I like Russell Westbrook. Another ball dominant guard who accumulates stats but shoots so poorly it sometimes makes him a liability. That’s why I don’t think that highly of trae. I was more impressed with the Hawks team defense this series than Trae.
22 year old Westbrick was better than 22 year Steph. He's not better now but all 22, he was better than Steph at 22. Trae is a lot like Westbrick, except 4 inches shorter, not as athletic, not as good of a rebounder, not even as good as a facilitator. That tells you how I feel about Trae. I'm not a fan but I can put that all aside and give an honest opinion. If you say Steph was better at 22, I would argue that you didn't even watch Steph at 22. Maybe one or two games. The talent was there. The potential but it was yet to transfer to his pro game. He didn't come into the league doing the things he was doing at Davidson. Trae came into the league doing what he did at Oklahoma. Part of it is the league is different. Trae wouldn't have been able to do the things he is doing back them. This is why this is a dumb as thread and I hate that I have dedicated so much time and energy to it.

his ball-handling and passing is a whole level above what currys was at the same stage and he draws fouls and finishes close to the rim better too..and his team is infused with confidence and feeds off him clearly in a way that currys warriors never, ever did in the first 4 years he was in the league.
Ha ha ha. You guys crack me up with these statements. Curry was one of the smoothest, most polished ball handlers and scorers to ever come out of college. There is zero chance Trae is a better ball handler at 22 than Steph was. Steph had just as many assists at 22 than he did this year. He’s such an amazingly efficient scorer it’s the teams job to get him the ball not the other way around. Like I said before Trae right now is just a better ball handling, poorer defending, less athletic Russell Westbrook. His inefficient shooting makes all the difference.

I'm convinced you watched zero Warriors games when Steph was 22. That's why you keep bringing up college. I think you watched him in his last year at Davidson then picked back up when he was 26. And in your mind it just all blends together. There's no way you were watching the garbage ass Warriors who were never on national TV when Steph was 22. I was watching though. Religiously. Chalupa!!! You don't know shit about that.

There’s a reason why they say Steph Curry changed the game. It wasn’t because he turned 23 and figured out how to dribble a basketball better than a 22 year old Trae young, ha ha. It’s because they had no clue what to do with a guy like him when he got in the league. Then they realized, you don’t even need a traditional pg and that Steph isn’t a traditional sg. He was a hybrid where you can have him or just about anyone else bring the ball up. So thinking he developed in to a better player than trae young after the age of 22 just because they learned how to use his skills is ridiculous. He was always a better player than Trae. In college, after college, and now. Trae has to become a better shooter if he has any chance to catch a 22 year old or 23 year old Steph.

we're comparing apples to oranges trae young is a point guard steph curry is a shooter does shooting % matter when you're a shooter? hell yeah it matters does it matter as much when you're a pg? yeah, but not nearly as much. it's a circular argument cause we can't compare the 2. nobody's going to compare chris paul to kevin durant.
That's the thing though. Steph IS a point guard. That has always been his role, even though Draymond has been more of the true point. The fact that we have to change the argument and say, "Well, Trae is a point, Steph is a shooter.. " kind of kills the argument. Of course 22 year old Trae can't shoot like 22 year old Steph. Steph's the best shooter of all time. He couldn't do much else at 22 though. The things he does now, he was not physically able to do at 22. That's a fact. And I love the guy. I'd probably give him a kidney

in my book, the warriors don't have a point guard. but, i see your argument.
been around too long. a point guard is chris paul, lillard, westbrook, mitchell, young, you name it. they shoot and dish. magic johnson was a point guard.

Again, you are proving you weren't watching Steph at 22. Maybe in college but not on the Warriors at 22. Steph did need to develop. He needed to get stronger. And his ankles were weak. They weren't injured in freak injuries. Like landed awkward and blowing an ankle. His ankles were weak. It affected his entire game. They literally had to bring in specialist to strengthen his ankles. This is the shit you know nothing about because you weren't following his career at 22. I was though. I'm a die hard Warrior fan, from Oakland, always went to games, and even worked on the staging crew at the Coli when I was a younger man. You can't tell me dick about Steph or the Warriors. I've got Steph bobbleheads. Klay with Bruno. Do you know who Bruno is? Miss me with this bull shit because you don't know this fucking team like I do. I was at the fucking groundbreaking for the new arena. I had a 20 minute shoot the shit convo with Joe Lacob. I met KD because he was the only player there. (I've met Steph, Klay, Draymond, Iggy (a nickname he doesn't even like) and Livingston, a ton of other players from before they were good. I fucking bleed this shit. You don't know this team like I do it would be fucking impossible for you to.

It's not true though. Steph has never been a true point guard. He's played one year of his career attempting to be one and that was his junior year at davidson. Otherwise the question always existed whether he was a pg or sg. Then they realized it didn't matter, just find a way to get him the ball and let him shoot. That's why they thought Ricky Rubio was better than him because he was a true pg that could pass and "make plays". Apparently being able to pass doesn't make someone better than Steph Curry.

They do. His names Draymond Green. He's a point forward. Steph can run the offense but he's not that kind of facilitator. At their height, aside from Steph, Draymond, Shaun Livingson, and Iggy could run the offense. And when KD came, he's a savant. He can do anything. That was their strength. They all could run the offense so they always made the right play. It was also their weakness as they would get pass happy which lead to turnovers.

I just don't know what to tell you man. He was one of the most skilled and gifted offensive players to ever play in college, one of the most skilled and gifted offensive players to ever play in the NBA, which makes him one of the most skilled and gifted basketball players ever. There is no gap in there in which he was not one of the most skilled and gifted offensive talents. Just because they didn't know what to do with him when he got in the NBA and they let Trae run the team like Russell Westbrook... does not make Trae a better basketball player at 22 than Steph was. Not really even close. There's ZERO chance a poor defending, poor shooting, short, not super athletic point guard is a better basketball player than steph was at the same age.

(I've met Steph, Klay, Draymond, Iggy (a nickname he doesn't even like) and Livingston, a ton of other players from before they were good. I fucking bleed this shit. You don't know this team like I do it would be fucking impossible for you to.
O....M....F....G.
how many fuccing times is this brainless bot gonna copy-paste the exact same drivel whilst ignoring any counterpoint....incredible,incredible stuff.
to suggest that steph didnt make TREMENDOUS leaps in all aspects of his game after the age of 22....mmmmm,yep thats right.he went from a guy no casual fan knew much about to a unanimous fuggin mvp and yet he was "pretty much the same guy" at 22.

Not directly on point but stump curious on yur view on Steph w his great shooting and off eff, I’ve seen him make more sloppy turnovers than care to remember and many at crunch time. Also, enjoy the back and forth but I think y’all are leaving out how the ind “teams” fit into the analysis .

I'm done with this dumb ass argument. For the record, Steph is my all time favorite player. I thought my team would always suck. Maybe be decent some years like the We Believe season but never win shit. I accepted this. Still was a die hard. Steph changed that. I was a team Steph from Day 1 even though a ton of people in the Town were team Monta. I was happy on draft night. Happy with his progression in his early seasons. Though plagued by injury, you could see what he was gonna be. It's not like it came out of no where, he was in the discussion for ROY, but his Davidson game didn't immediately translate to the pros. It took several years and a ton of strength and conditioning to become the player he has become. I used to go to their fucking training sessions and open runs when their facility was downtown at the fucking Hyatt. I'm really from Oakland. Born at Kaiser like motherfucking Dru Down. There is not dick you can tell me about Steph Curry or these Warriors. I literally had a front seat for his early years. That was before they were the "Dubs". Nobody called this team the Dubs back then. That's some johnny come lately techster bullshit. These dudes weren't super stars. You could literally go to their practice sessions and get shots up with them. Anybody from Oakland knows this. You're just a bandwagon dickrider. I bleed this shit. My first Warriors game they still had Sleept Floyd. I had both color Latrell Spreewell jerseys. Fucking Latrell Spreewell.

"There is no gap in there in which he was not one of the most skilled and gifted offensive talents. Just because they didn't know what to do with him when he got in the NBA.."
There was a gap. From about 22 to 24. It wasn't that they didn't know what to do with him. He wasn't physically able to do the things he does now at the NBA level at 22. Part of it was his bad ankles, that they literally had to bring in specialist to work on. These are the things I know, being a die hard, that you don't, being a dickrider. I BLEED THIS SHIT. I use to sometimes get the hookup to park in the players lot. Somewhere I have pictures with Biedrens sitting on his Bentley. I BLEED THIS SHIT. I still use my Jason Richardson gym bag. I FUCKING BLEED THIS SHIT. I didn't just start following the Warriors and Steph when they started winning. You clearly watched him in college then started watching him at 25. You weren't watching him at 22. Maybe one or two games. You weren't watching him like me. You weren't at the runs at the Hyatt. You wanna know how Oakland I am? That shit wasn't even the Hyatt at that point, it was the Marriott but everybody from Oakland still called it the Hyatt. There is no physical way you could know more about Steph than me. Damn, I know I can come off like an obnoxious no it all sometimes but that's not what this is. This is my hometown team. Before they were champs, when they sucked balls, they were my team. I fucking bleed this shit.

You obviously didn't watch college basketball at the time. I've watched college ball for 20 years, and outside of Carmelos tourney run I've never seen anything like Curry's. Steph was a top 10 pick and one of the greatest college players in history. It's not like he was some late 2nd rounder that blossomed in to the greatest offensive player of all time. Your argument is ridiculous to be honest. We have tvs, it's not like we haven't seen both of them play.

I am not a skilled observer and I don't watch that much basketball to begin with, so I'll just report what I have learned. One of the Daily Wager commentators stated that TY is not a very good DEF player and nobody disagreed with him. According to this link:
"Trae Young was rated the WORST defensive PG in the league in 2019-2020." He may have improved since then, but I don't see a one-way player as a serious MVP candidate of the league. He can certainly score enough to be the MVP of any playoff series.
He had six TO's today, but at least he had 10 assists. To his credit, his career average PPG is a whopping 11 points higher than John Stockton's.

Well, because i'm from Oakland. My aunt took me to my first Warriors game when I was 3. I continued to go to 2-4 games a year until my brothers were old enough to take me and it became 5 to 10. By my teen years it was 10 to 20. At the height, from age 18 to 30, before they became "the Dubs", it was 20+ every year. I even worked on the stage crew at the Coliseum in my young adulthood. I'm a die hard fan. I had long accepted that my team would be a doormat. I never thought they would even go to a championship in my lifetime. And I was fine with that. Steph changed all of that. He changed the whole attitude of the team. He made us winners and he did it for Oakland. He wasn't happy about the team moving across the bay. And he's a nice as dude to boot. He's everything you could ever ask for in a franchise player. He's the baby faced assassin. He's our baby faced assassin.
